The eighth episode in a unique series exploring all the major climate zones of the world that focuses in full high-definition video on real places in each climate zone. In this geography documentary we show this part of the world in its full beauty, and uncover the secrets of why it is that way and show you the influential lands and cities that lie within.
Found on every continent, this climate is home to the famous Atacama and Gobi deserts, as well as the iconic lands of the Western United States that gave birth to the Western fiction genre.
☀️❄️💨
In North America, most of the inland western half of the USA is classed as a cool desert, including the states of Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Within this area are the natural gems of the Grand Canyon and Arches and Zion National Parks.
In South America, the famous Atacama desert lies in the north of Chile and Western Bolivia, the driest place on earth, while further south, the endless parched plains of Patagonia in Argentina reach down almost to the Antarctic. Cool arid or semi arid conditions also occur in parts of South Africa, Australia and Spain.
☀️❄️💨
Most of the world's cool deserts, however, lie within Southwest Asia and Central Asia - from Iran and
Afghanistan in the south, and up through the Central Asian Republics of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan where we find the extensive Karakum desert and the now mostly dried out Aral Sea. The Taklamakan desert of Western China is the second largest expanse of sand dunes in the world, while the most famous cool desert of all - the Gobi of Mongolia that gave birth to the world's largest land empire of Genghis Khan - completes our map of cool Asian deserts.
☀️❄️💨
This in-depth study of the Hot Desert Climate is essential preparation for the IAS Exam and UPSC Exams of the Indian Civil Service.

This video is about the Sahara : The Largest Desert In The World | Lesson For Kids.
The Sahara desert is one of the largest deserts in the world. It covers an area of about 3.6 million square miles and is located in the northern part of Africa. The desert stretches across many countries, including Egypt, Libya, Tunisia,
Algeria, and Morocco.
The Sahara desert is known for its hot and dry climate. The temperatures in the desert can reach up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and can drop to freezing at night. Despite the harsh conditions, there are still many different types of plants and animals that live in the Sahara. Some of the most common plants include cacti, acacia trees, and palm trees. Animals that live in the Sahara include camels, snakes, lizards, and gazelles.
One of the most famous landmarks in the Sahara desert is the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza. These ancient Egyptian structures were built over 4,500 years ago and still stand today. The Great Sphinx is a statue of a lion with a human head that is over 200 feet long. The pyramids are giant structures made of stone that were used as tombs for pharaohs.
Another famous landmark in the Sahara desert is the Erg Chebbi, a large dune field located in Morocco. The dunes can reach heights of up to 500 feet and are a popular spot for tourists to visit and take in the beautiful desert landscape.
The Sahara desert is also home to many different cultures and tribes. The Tuareg people, also known as the "blue people," have lived in the Sahara for centuries. They are known for their blue clothing and for their nomadic lifestyle. The Tuareg people travel through the desert with their camels and goats, looking for water and food.
The Sahara desert is a fascinating place that has a unique ecosystem and many cultural and historical landmarks. Despite its harsh conditions, it is still home to a variety of plants and animals that have adapted to the desert environment. If you ever get a chance to visit the Sahara, be sure to take in the beautiful landscapes, historical sites, and learn about the people who call it home.
However, it's important to remember that the Sahara desert is a fragile ecosystem and it's important to follow the rules and guidelines of the area you're visiting to help protect the environment and the people who live there. #sahara #desert #forkids

This is what the bare earth looks like, the bones of our planet revealed as the skin of vegetation is peeled back. A product of endless sunshine and drought, life yet still finds a way here, for plants to survive in these regions have gotten smart, think cacti and succulents that last through the long droughts by holding vast sums of water in their fleshy bodies, with the Saguaro Cactus of the Sonoran Desert being the biggest of all. 🌵Or there's the strange Welwitschia of the Namib, or the iconic Joshua Tree of California. The oldest of all trees can also be found in the desert mountains of that state - the Bristlecone Pine Tree.
☀️ Deserts occur over extensive parts of the continental surface of the earth, present on every continent, and are in fact the largest biome in terms of land area. They are basically subdivided into four forms, hot and cold, arid and semi-arid. The former determined by whether winter temperatures fall below freezing, the latter determined by whether there is a substantial covering of vegetation or not.
🏜 Specific deserts on our planet are among the world's most famous natural geographic entities. The Mojave Desert and Sonoran Desert of North America. The Atacama Desert of Northern Chile - the driest in the world. The bleak semi-desert of Patagonia in Southern Argentina. The Namib Desert and Kalahari Desert of Namibia. The Sahara Desert of North Africa - the largest in the world. The various deserts of the Middle-East - the Negev, Wadi Rum, the Empty Quarter to name but three. The many deserts of Iran and Pakistan such as the Baluchi. The Thar Desert of Western India. The Karakum Desert of Turkmenistan. The Taklamakan Desert of North-West China - among the most forbidding of all deserts due to its extreme aridity and freezing winter temperatures. The vast cold Gobi Desert of Mongolia. And lastly, the deserts of Australia, such as the Great Sandy Desert and the Simpson Desert, with Uluru, or Ayres Rock, at the heart of that dry continent.
🌃 Despite the aridity, humans have learned to survive here, with large cities existing in the heat and dry. Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Antonio in the USA, Monterrey in Mexico, Lima in Peru, Cairo in Egypt, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Baghdad in Iraq, Tehran in Iran, Karachi in Pakistan, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.

Namibia: Live stream in the Namib Desert
Live feed, from a waterhole in the heart of Namibia
Complementing the magnificence of the Namib Desert’s never-ending red sand dunes, Namibia Cam’s waterhole lies within the Gondwana Namib Park - bordering the Namib Naukluft Park.
In this park, all man-made barriers have been removed, creating a space over 56,540 square kilometers (meaning 21,830 sq mi) - wildlife moves freely between the two parks and the other privately owned guest farms.
In Gondwana Namib Park the Namib experience covers two sides. Three, in fact, as under the reddish sand there is brown sandstone – the fossilised dunes of an ancient Namib. Then there is the World Heritage Site of ‘Namib Sand Sea’, and only 60 km further south, the Namib shows yet another face: the valley of the ephemeral Tsauchab River – which cuts...

Sahara: The Largest Desert On Earth | Journeys To The Ends Of The Earth | Real History
The Sahara is the biggest desert on earth ... it takes its name from the Arab word for "emptiness". In the dead heart of that emptiness there's a place called the Tenere. The Tenere takes its name from the Tuareg word for "nothing". A nothing the size of France in the middle of an emptiness the size of the United States. It's no wonder the locals call this place "The Land Of Fear”. David Adams retraces the trade routes of the people who call this stove-hot corner of the planet home.
From the ancient civilizations of years past to the dawn of the Space Race, every week we'll be bringing you award-winning documentaries featuring some of the world's best historians. Subscribe so you don't miss out.

Then there is the World Heritage Site of ‘Namib Sand Sea’, and only 60 km further south, the Namib shows yet another face: the valley of the ephemeral Tsauchab River – which cuts through the surging sand-sea and ends in famed Sossusvlei.
But along with the fossilised dunes, Namib Sand Sea and Tsauchab River, a glorious new display has risen.
Built in 2006, the special character of this waterhole, has not only an impact on the surrounding wildlife, but stretches across the globe, from home to home. This particular waterhole is situated within an open plain, 8km from Namib Desert Lodge.
A solar-powered borehole fills a nearby reservoir and is monitored by a water float that opens as the waterhole’s levels decline.
Being situated within a remote destination like the Namib Desert, intermittent interruptions are likely to occur at times.
