The Hominids of the Ringworld, like the humans of Larry Niven's other works about the Known Space fictional universe, are descendants of the species called the Pak, whose "breeder" stage resembled Homo habilis, and who utilize a symbiotic virus (which grows inside a plant called Tree-of-Life) to then develop into a hyper-intelligent Protector stage. The Pak Protectors built the Ringworld, but for some unknown reason, the Protectors and the Tree-of-Life died off, leaving the Breeders to breed and mutate randomly. The ecology of the Ringworld was left with many empty niches, and as the breeders evolved they moved into these niches, developing into a bewildering variety of species—predators, herbivores, aquatic mammals, tree-dwellers, etc.
This is Larry Niven's Ringworld from the novels (1970). This is not HALO. Bungie borrowed Larry's idea and scaled it down for the game.
After feedback from the previous version I've extended the duration, added colour correction, re-mapped the clouds and put the ice back at the North Pole as I'd forgotten about the cooling fins below the scrith in the polar areas...

What If We Built A Ringworld In Space?
The Earth may not be our home forever. Eventually, we may have to leave. What if instead of finding a potentially habitable exoplanet light-years away, we stayed in our Solar System and built a habitat so enormous we could never overpopulate it? What if we built a halo ringworld?
How would we go about building such a thing? Where would we find enough materials to construct this cosmic megastructure? How long would it take before we could move in into our new artificial home?

What Would an Alien Megastructure Look Like? Ringworlds with Larry Niven and Gregory Benford
From both Gregory Benford and Larry Niven comes a thrilling, hard science fiction series, Bowl of Heaven, that follows a human expedition to another star system that’s suddenly interrupted by a gigantic artifact floating in interstellar space. The bowl-shaped structure engulfs an entire star, and has a habitable area equivalent to many millions of Earths.
Gregory Benford is a physicist, educator, and award winning author. Larry Niven is an award winning author, best known for his book Ringworld.

Terry Pratchett on why Belief and Faith beyond the confines of religion and science are important.
From Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather.
Belief is very important to people. The things we believe shape the world around us.
"We need to believe in the little things before we can be prepared to believe in the abstract world around us."
[Removed]
Science isn't always right, Neither are religions.
Hope and Faith don't belong to either but are part of what it means to be human. We humans need our fantasies even if when we become older we simultaneously believe both.
I think this is very deep and If you are too small to see that, please keep your hate and ridicule off my channel.
Thanks for all of the love from the Pratchettarians. I miss Terry. He was always saying something deep or weird which would always make me think. His commentary on modern society that runs rampant throughout his boo...

His commentary on modern society that runs rampant throughout his books helped make me the man I am today. Thanks, Sir Terry.

NEW! This could be interesting! http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/04/10/ringworld-syfy/

Produced by Underknown in Toronto, What If is a mini-documentary web series that takes you on an epic journey through hypothetical worlds and possibilities. Join us on an imaginary adventure — grounded in scientific theory — through time, space and chance, as we ask what if some of the most fundamental aspects of our existence were different.

Larry Niven's 1970s Novel Ringworld involved a space expedition to a distant destination. The race of aliens known as the Puppeteers had detected it and become interested. The cautious race assembled a team of two humans and a Kizniti to investigate. What was there was unlike anything any known race had ever seen. A marvel of Macro Engineering, the Ringworld.

The Known Space Universe created by Larry Niven in his classic sci fi novel Ringworld is truly amazing... It's just a shame about the plot.
