► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In November 2023, I hiked the O-trek (including the W-trek) in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile in southern Patagonia.
Day 1: I traveled by bus from Puerto Natales, entered the park at Laguna Amarga, and set up camp at Las Torres. I hiked to Mirador Base Las Torres, covering 23 kilometers. Day 2: I trekked 39 kilometers to Campamento Dickson, passing Rio Paine, Campamento Seron, and Lago Paine, with the glacier Dickson in the distance. Day 3: I covered 25 kilometers through a stunning forest to Los Perros, passing the Perros Glacier, and did a day-hike to the Puma Glacier on a non-maintained trail. Day 4: The day started with a climb to the Paso John Garner pass in snow. At top I got a mesmerizing view of the white expanse of Grey Glacier. I followed the trail along the glacier to Campamento Grey, then to Paine Grande campground. Day 5: despite the rain, I covered 43 kilometers. I hiked up to Mirador Británico and back to Central via Camping Francés and Refugio Los Cuernos. On the day 6, I woke up at 2:30 am and climbed to Mirador Base Las Torres, completing the final 20 kilometers of my 182-kilometer journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia.
Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (https://www.thatch.co/guide/2e7ss9h6gue0k/view) which explains everything you need to know: how to get to the park, how to make reservations (required!), what to see along the way, when to go, the weather, and much more. Included is a Custom Google Maps and GPX-files.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In June 2023 I hiked on the Lofoten Islands of Norway for 10 days. The Lofoten Islands, located in northern Norway about 130 kilometers (80 miles) above the Arctic Circle, form an archipelago in the Norwegian Sea. These islands stretch east-west direction in the Norwegian Sea across a total length of approximately 122 kilometers (76 miles).
These islands are characterized by their rugged mountain ranges that rise abruptly from the surrounding waters. About 80% of the islands' surface is covered by mountains.
On day 1 and 2 I hiked the Matmora ridge, day 3 to the frozen lake of Botnvatnet. On day 4 I made it to Vestvågøya island and hiked towards Leknes via Dalstuva where I camped on top of the mountain. On day 5 I watched the midnight sun above the clouds at 3am, and the next morning I hiked down to Konsfjordpollen to spend a night inside. On day 6 I started hiking on Moskenesøya and hiked to Ryten peak, Kvalvika beach and Horseidvika beach. On day 7 I hiked to Kjerkfjorden and took the ferry to Vindstad. I finished with climbing Hermannsdalstinden. On day 8 I got to Å, and spent the night next to Ågvatnet. On day 9 I climbed over a tricky pass to Gjerdvika and Turtnbakkvika beach where I spent the night. On day 10 I got back to Å.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In June 2023 I spent 3 days canoeing in the waters of Swedish Lapland, east of Jokkmokk, above the arctic circle in northern Sweden. My trip started in Årrenjarka from where I canoed west along to coast to Saggat. I camped on a small inhabited island near the start of the Kvikkjokk delta. On the second day I canoed up the Gamájåhkå river towards the border of Sarek National Park. I explored the many channels in the delta and went up the Tarraätno river as far as possible. I camped on a lake plateau (lake dock) on lake Mierdékjávrre. On the third day I hiked up to the peak of Prinskullen and canoed back in a storm to Årrenjarka.
Special thanks to Matti @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA for his advice as a local outdoors expert.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In early August 2023 I hiked the Laugavegur Trail. The Laugavegur Trail is probably Iceland's most famous hiking trail that showcases some of Iceland's most stunning natural landscapes. The trail stretches approximately 55 kilometers (34mi) from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk. Often the trail is combined with the Fimmvörðuháls, which adds another 25 kilometers to Skógar on the ocean in the south. With filming I completed about 100 kilometers (62mi) of hiking in 48 hours.
On day 1 I took the bus from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar where I started my hike. The hike passes by the colorful rhyolite mountains around Landmannalaugar, over infamously windy pass of Hrafntinnusker to the green valley of Álftavatn, straight from paradise. I passed the Alftavatn Hut and camped at the Hvanngil Hut. On day 2 I continued the trail passing the moonlight landscape of the Emstrur (Botnar) valley to get to Þórsmörk. I passed the Emstrur Hut, the Hattafell mountain (green mountain in black sand) and the Langidalur Hut. I camped the night at the Básar Hut. I got an early start on day 3 to beat the weather that was expected later that day and started the Fimmvörðuháls Trail. I climbed up to the Fimmvörðuháls pass and passed by the Magni volcano that erupted in 2010. At the pass you can see 2 massive glaciers on both sides of the pass: Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökul. I had lunch at the Fimmvörðuháls Hut and descended down towards the ocean via the Baldvínskali Hut to 'waterfall alley' where the trail ends at Skógafoss, the most famous waterfall of Iceland.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In July 2023 I spent 5 days hiking over 110km on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. The southern most peninsula of Iceland is right below Reykjavik and is currently volcanically the most active area of Iceland. I started at the lake Kleifarvatn at the Seltún geothermal area. I climbed over the mountains to Djúpavatn lake via Arnavatn lake. I explored Sogin and Grænadyngja and Trolladyngja, young volanic fissures with geothermal sites and beautiful vibrant colors. I then descended down towards the old lava fields near the Kellir crater towards the 2023 Litli-Hrutur Volcano eruption site. I camped at a safe distance that night as I watched the volcano shoot out lava. I visited the lava flow up close and neighboring volcanic peak of Litli-Hrutur.
The next day I followed the beautiful scenic route south through the Geldingadalir Valley around the Fagradalsfjall Volcano that erupted in 2022 and 2021. I got back to Kleifarvatn lake via the old Ogmundarhraun lava fields dating back to 1151AD. I hiked to the other side of the lake where I spent the night on the beach. The next day I hiked over the eastern ridge of the lake and got a ride to the small town of Grindavík in the afternoon. I explored the southwestern tip of the peninsula where I visited the old craters of Stampar and camped between the sand dunes of Sandvík beach. Lastly I the colorful Gunnuhver hot spring and famous Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is fed by hot water from the Svartsengi geothermal power plant that also supplies all of the communities of the Reykjanes Area with hot water for house heating and other purpose.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In March-April 2023, I hiked the Three Passes Trek in Nepal in 16 days. During the trek, I was accompanied by a guide and porter from Himalayan Glacier. I flew from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m / 9,383ft) and spent the night in Phakding (2,610m / 8,563ft) before continuing on to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,286ft) the following day. After an acclimatization day in Namche, I hiked to the Tengboche Monastery (3,870m / 12,697ft) where I camped for the night. The next day, I hiked to Dingboche (4,360m / 14,304ft) where I experienced snowfall overnight. The day after that, I did an acclimatization hike to Nangkartshang peak (5,083m, 16,676ft).
The following day, which happened to be my birthday, I hiked to Chukhung (4,730m / 15,518ft) and did another acclimatization hike to Chukhung Ri (5,559m, 18,238ft). The next morning, we crossed the first pass, Kongma La Pass (5,535m / 18,159ft), crossed the Khumbu Glacier (the highest glacier in the world), and spent the night in Lobuche (4,940m / 16,207ft).
On day 9, I hiked to Gorak Shep (5,140m / 16,863ft), the highest official overnight stop on the trek, and then did a day hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364m / 17,598ft). The next day, I climbed Kalapatthar (5,644m / 18,519ft) at sunrise, and then got to Dzongla for the night (4,710m / 15,453ft). On day 11, we crossed over the second pass, Cho La Pass (5,420m / 17,782ft), to get to Gokyo (4,790m / 15,719ft), which involved crossing the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas at 36km / 22mi. I spent the night at Fitzroy Inn overlooking Gokyo Third Lake (Gokyo Lake). The next day, I hiked up to Gokyo Ri (5,357m / 17,575ft), where I camped for the night overlooking four 8,000m+ peaks, including Mount Everest. My highest night ever!
From Gokyo I passed over the third and final pass another night later: Renjo La Pass (5,360m / 17,585ft). Descending down into the valley we made it to the small town of Marlung (4,210m / 13,812ft). On day 15 we got back to Namche Bazaar, spent the night and hiked back to Lukla for the final night on trail.

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In January 2023 I hiked for 10 days on the Island of Madeira. I started in the small town of Porto Moniz in the west and headed up the great plateau of Paul da Serra. I visited the 25 Fontes waterfalls and passed through a 2-kilometers tunnel to get to the coastal town of Seixal. Back on the pleteau I headed east towards Pico Grande, the second tallest peak on the island. I slept in a cave and descended down to the remote town of Curral Das Freiras (the valley of the nuns) hidden in a deep valley. I climbed up to the main ridge but was forced to descend down again the next morning due to unseasonable amounts of rain and cold. The next morning I climbed back up via a different route and merged onto trail PR1 via Pico do Arieiro. PR1 is the most beautiful trail on the island. I climbed to the top of the island: Pico Ruivo at 1862 meters. I camped overlooking the valley of Curral Das Freiras with an astonishing sunset. The last day I arrived on the peninsula Ponta de Sao Lourenco, the furthest one can walk east.
