The Historical Jesus
What can we know about the historical Jesus of Nazareth? How and why does the life of the historic figure differ from competing (and contradictory) accounts in the New Testament? What can other sources tell us, including non-Christian accounts as well as gospels left out of the canon?
John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place will outline an overview of what can and cannot be known about the historical Jesus and will talk about the difference between the portrait painted by academic history, the portraits painted by scripture, and the experience of the divine Christ as understood by Christians.
A Q&A and discussion will follow the presentation. Please send your questions on the live chat.

13. The Historical Jesus
Introduction to New Testament (RLST 152)
It is obvious that certain narratives in the New Testament contradict each other and cannot be woven into a historically coherent whole. How, then, do scholars construct who the "historical Jesus" was? There are several principles that historical Jesus researchers follow, which include considering data that 1) has multiple attestations and 2) is dissimilar to a text's theological tendencies as more likely to be historical. Using the modern methods of historical research, it becomes possible to construct a "historical Jesus."

Is Jesus Historical? What Do The Romans Say About Him?
On this video we will have a deep historical research into the most important mentions in Latin about Jesus of Nazareth by non Christian authors such as Roman emperors, magistrates, lawyers, military officers etc. We will discuss the validity of such testimonies, and try to understand if Jesus of Nazareth really is a historical figure or if his existence was just a myth.

The Jesus of History versus the Christ of Faith
Sifting through centuries of mythmaking, Reza Aslan sheds new light on one of history’s most influential and enigmatic figures by examining Jesus within the context of the times in which he lived: the age of zealotry. Balancing the Jesus of the Gospels against historical sources, Aslan describes a man of peace who exhorted his followers to arm themselves; an exorcist and faith healer who urged his disciples to keep his identity secret; and the seditious “King of the Jews,” whose promise of liberation from Rome went unfulfilled in his lifetime. Aslan explores why the early Church preferred to promulgate an image of Jesus as a peaceful spiritual teacher rather than a politically conscious revolutionary and grapples with the riddle of how Jesus understood himself.

Many Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God, is the Lord. Is this statement correct? #jesus
Many Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God, is the Lord. Can you explain what this means? Is this statement correct?
Question: Many Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God, is the Lord. Can you explain what this means? Is this statement correct?
Answer: Jesus is the Lord, and "Lord" is an abbreviation for "Savior". The complete expression should be: Jesus is the Savior whom God sent to the world to save humanity, so Jesus is the Lord.
The Hebrew transliteration for Savior is "Messiah", and the Greek transliteration is "Christ".
Jesus is not God; He is the beloved Son of God, the only Son who has completely eradicated sinful nature.
He has restored full divinity and reached unity with God. He can carry out God's will.
God is omniscient and omnipotent.
No one knows about that ...

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (Matthew 24:36)
This verse is clear that even the Son doesn't know, only the Father knows.
There are many examples like this in the Bible, and we won't list them one by one.
If Jesus is God, then God allowed Himself to be crucified by His own creation–humans. Can this still be considered redemption for humanity?
If Jesus is God, then the sin of crucifying God would be more severe than all the sins committed by humans.
Actually, humans don't have the ability to crucify God.
God being crucified by His own creation is completely unreasonable and impossible.
Jesus, although not God Himself, is the beloved Son of God. The Israelites crucified God's beloved Son, and therefore, their sin was significant.
At that time, the Israelites said, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" This curse did come true.
Since AD 70, they had been expelled by the Romans.
For the past 2000 years, the Israelites had been homeless, wandering everywhere, facing numerous hardships and adversities, being discriminated against and expelled wherever they sought refuge, and even suffered mass massacres.
It wasn't until after World War II, in 1948, that they declared the establishment of Israel. Although they regained their nation, the war didn't end, and they were still besieged. Their retribution hasn't ended.
Now in 2023, they are facing another crisis of war–the Arab world has united to condemn them.
As long as they don't acknowledge Christ, their tribulations will not come to an end.
Only when Christ returns will they recognize Him as the Messiah. And only then will they repent and end their tribulation.
