Kermit Ruffins (born December 19, 1964) is an American jazz trumpeter, singer, and composer from New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He has been influenced by Louis Armstrong and Louis Jordan and says that the highest note he can hit on trumpet is a high C. He often accompanies his songs with his own vocals. Most of his bands perform New Orleans jazz standards, though he also composes many of his own pieces. Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote, "Mr. Ruffins is an unabashed entertainer who plays trumpet with a bright, silvery tone, sings with off-the-cuff charm and never gets too abstruse in his material."
Early life
He started playing trumpet in 8th grade at Lawless Junior High School in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. He attended Joseph S. Clark High School in the 6th Ward. In high school, he played a little bit of classical music at the behest of a strict band teacher.
He developed an appreciation for cooking from his grandmother, observing her movements in the kitchen.
"Hey, Look Me Over", a song from the musical Wildcat, whose tune was adapted into one of Louisiana State University's school songs, "Hey, Fightin’ Tigers"
Hey, Look Me Over was the 236th episode of the M*A*S*H television series, and the first episode of season eleven. The episode aired on October 25, 1982.
Plot
Nurse Kellye is continually frustrated by Hawkeye's attitude towards her - he's happy to talk to her or dance the Lindy in the Officer's Club, but as soon as a tall blonde nurse approaches, or a slow dance tune comes on the jukebox, he acts "like I'm Typhoid Mary". Kellye then gives Hawkeye the cold shoulder, but Hawkeye fails to see what he's done wrong, and the two subsequently argue, Kellye telling him "you have no idea how fabulous I really am". Tensions are already high amongst the nurses as a visiting Colonel has arrived to perform a snap inspection on Major Houlihan, her nurses and their routines. During a nightshift in post-op, Hawkeye sees the error of his ways as he observes Kellye comforting a dying soldier. The following day, Hawkeye apologizes to Kellye and the two are seen dancing together cheek-to-cheek in the Officer's Club.
Nash had envisioned the main character of Wildy as a woman in her late twenties, and was forced to rewrite the role when Lucille Ball expressed interest not only in playing it but financing the project as well. Desilu, the company owned by her (soon-to-be ex-)husband Desi Arnaz, ultimately invested $360,000 in the show in exchange for 36% of the net profits, the rights to the original cast recording (ultimately released by RCA Victor), and television rights for musical numbers to be included in a special entitled Lucy Goes to Broadway, a project that eventually was scrapped. Ball also was permitted to choose her leading man. Kirk Douglas's salary demands and heavy film schedule eliminated him from the running, and Gordon MacRae, Jock Mahoney, and Gene Barry were considered before she selected Keith Andes. Michael Kidd, who co-produced with Nash, directed and choreographed, and it was he who got songwriters Coleman and Leigh on board, making their Broadway debut.

Hey look me over, lend me an ear, Fresh out of clover, morgaged up to here, Don't pass the plate folks, Don't pass the cup, I figure whenever you're down and out, The only way is up.. And I'll be up like a rose bud, High on the vine, Don't thumb your nose folks, Take a tip from mine, I'm a little bit short of the elbow room, But let me get me some, And look out world, here I come... Nobody in the world, Was ever without a prayer, How can you win the world, If nobody knows you're there, Kid when you need the crowd, The tickets are hard to sell, Still you can win the crowd, If you can get up and yo yo.. Hey look me over, lend me an ear, Fresh out of clover, morgaged up to here, Don't pass the plate folks, Don't pass the cup, I figure whenever you're down and out, The only way is up..
