Heathrow Terminal 5 station is a shared railway station at London Heathrow AirportTerminal 5 which was opened on 27 March 2008. It was designed by architects HOK International in conjunction with Rogers, Stirk, Harbour & Partners.
Until 2012, free transfer was not possible between terminals via the Underground, in contrast to the Heathrow Express. In January 2012, free travel was introduced for Oyster card holders between the Heathrow stations on the Piccadilly line. Journeys from Heathrow Terminal 5 to Terminal 4 via the Piccadilly line require a change at Hatton Cross; this journey is free, despite Hatton Cross not being part of the free travel zone.
Although situated underground, parts of the station's roofing are made of translucentETFElaminate panels, allowing natural daylight to flood down both ends of all six platforms.
The terminal was designed to handle 35 million passengers a year. In 2012 Terminal 5 handled 29.8million passengers on 199,627 flights. 41% of the airport's passengers on 43% of its flights with an average of 149 passengers per flight. It was the busiest terminal at the airport, measured both by passenger numbers and flight movements.
The building's leading architects were from the Richard Rogers Partnership and production design was completed by aviation architects Pascall+Watson. The engineers for the structure were Arup and Mott MacDonald. The building cost £4billion and took almost 20 years from conception to completion, including the longest public inquiry in British history.

Best way to travel from Heathrow to London? | Heathrow Express vs Elizabeth Line vs Piccadilly Line
In this video, I have decided to do something completely new for my channel.
As international travel is largely back after the pandemic and London is welcoming more tourists than ever before, I decided to compare the ways to travel from Heathrow Airport to Central London using rail transport and find out which one is the cheapest and which one is the fastest.
The video begins with the race from Heathrow to Trafalgar Square using the Piccadilly Line on London Underground, followed by a journey back to Heathrow on the Heathrow Express and then back to Central London using the Elizabeth Line, including the new central section of the railway which opened at the end of May 2022.

Arriving at London Heathrow Airport (LHR). If this is your first visit to London Heathrow Terminal 5 you should find this video helpful for getting an idea of the airport procedures when you arrive at London Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom. This London Heathrow Airport footage is filmed from the disembarkation of our flight (a British Airways flight from Copenhagen), through the walk to arrivals area where we eventually purchase our London Underground rail tickets to London.
Our walk begins where we have just disembarked our plane and are walking through Heathrow Airport´s Terminal 5 towards Immigration / Passport Control. To get to the Heathrow Immigration / Passport Control area we take an Airport Train Shuttle. The Passport Control process at Heathrow Airport was very quick as we used the automated Passport scanner (we are EU citizens). After clearing Immigration we start to make our way to the Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Baggage Claim area. We quickly claim our luggage and then make our way through the airport Customs area where you choose the red entrance if you have something to declare or the green entrance if you have nothing to declare. Once we have passed Heathrow Airports Customs we find our selves in the Heathrow Airport arrivals. The arrivals area is full of people / chauffeurs waiting to pick up passengers. We have decided that we will make our way into London City with the London Underground (The Tube) and therefore the process of where to buy tickets for the train from Heathrow Airport to London is covered too. In our case we were advised to buy the London Oyster Travel Card, and we give viewers a brief explanation of what that is.
All in all we found that Arriving at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 was easy and the airport signs were very good in pointing us in the right direction. The only issue / confusing part was whether or not we were supposed to use the Airport Shuttle transfer to get to the Immigration area or whether the Heathrow Airport Shuttle Train was only for passengers who had a transfer flight from Heathrow Airport (the train was for both arriving and transferring passengers).
Heathrow Terminal 5, "Heathrow Terminal 5 is an airport terminal at Heathrow Airport, the main airport serving London. Opened in 2008, the main building in the complex is the largest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom. Terminal 5 is currently used exclusively as one of the three global hubs of International Airlines Group, served by British Airways and Iberia... Prior to 2012, the terminal was used solely by British Airways... The terminal was designed to handle 35 million passengers a year. In 2015, Terminal 5 handled 33.1 million passengers on 215,716 flights; 44.6% of the airport's passengers on 46.6% of its flights with an average of 153 passengers per flight. It was the busiest terminal at the airport, measured both by passenger numbers and flight movements..."
