Recife (Portuguese pronunciation:[ʁeˈsifi]) is the fifth-largestmetropolitan area in Brazil with 3,743,854 inhabitants, the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 5th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital and largest city of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1,555,039 in 2012.
The former capital of the 17th century Dutch Brazil, Recife was founded in 1537, during the early Portuguese colonization of Brazil, as the main harbor of the Captaincy of Pernambuco, known for its large scale production of sugar cane. The city is located at the confluence of the Beberibe and Capibaribe rivers before they flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. Its name is an allusion to the stone reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city centre characterise its geography and led to the city being called the "Brazilian Venice." As of 2010, it is the capital city with the highest HDI in Northeast Brazil.

Reef Knot or Square Knot How to Tie the Reef Knot How to Tie the Square Knot
One of the best but most misused of knots is the Reef or Square Knot. Employed as a Binding Knot, to reef and furl sails or to tie up parcels, it is invaluable. But employed as a bend (to tie two rope ends together), the Reef Knot is probably responsible for more deaths and injuries than have been caused by the failure of all other knots combined. In fact the ease with which it is capsized by jerking at one end is its chief recommendation as a Reef Knot. Tied in two ropes’ ends of different size, texture, or stiffness, it is almost bound to capsize and spill.

Guy release raggy shark he caught at Cape Recife
2019-11-17 This guy was releasing raggy toothed shark he caught fishing at Cape Recife. Apparently this was a small one. It weighed about 130 kg's and was about 5 feet in lengths. I'm always scarred the guys get bitten when they release the sharks again. Glad to see them do it though. Good fishermen.

⛵️Our Best Passage so far!! 😎 Ep. 266
This week we transformed a person we met for 10 minutes 10 years ago into a life long friend. That's what a "small boat" do to relationships. Sorry for the clickbait but our friend looks way too much with Riley from La Vagabond that we couldn't not do that. hehehehe

We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience...

A Very Fishy Affair - Free Range Sailing Ep 64
We take advantage of the calm weather to further enjoy Broadhurst Reef and stock up our fridge with fish ready for our return to Magnetic Island and Townsville.
We go spearfishing on our final dive at the reef and Pascale goes on a magic Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) date with Meg from SV Sarean. On our return to Magnetic Island, we encounter fickle winds despite a weather report to the contrary. Pascale brings in a decent size Spanish Mackerel and shows you how we smoke it with Casuarina wood that we collect from the beach at Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island.

I Was Almost Killed By Discarded Fishing Line!
Properly Dispose Your Used Fishing Line!
For years i've pushed for anglers to clean-up their areas for others. I've stepped on a circle hook once & it was painful extracting it. I usually spend the first 10min cleaning someone else's mess before i set-up my gear. I'd rather see plastics in a garbage can rather then around a Sea Turtle's neck.
So this day i got to my site extremely early & started to set-up my shore casting rigs. I had enough natural light to see enough of my surroundings to maneuver around. I walked across a cliff overhang to set my first rig up & hopped over a open fissure as i've done for years. This time my foot got snagged & i went down through the fissure head first roughly 8ft to the reef. I was lucky a swell came in to cover the rocks with 2ft of water seconds bef...

I was lucky a swell came in to cover the rocks with 2ft of water seconds before impact. I instinctively put my right hand forward to help break the fall.
The next thing i remember was gasping for air as i was swallowing salt water. My right wrist was in pain & my leg was torn-up scraping the rocks going down. My shorts was partially torn as my backside got a puncture. If things were different i could've been knocked-out, or worse. All because a fisherman left 100's of yards of discarded fishing line all over the sharp rocks. I was there 2 days earlier & no line was there. If this was thrown in the water it would kill endangered Green Sea Turtles which congregate in numbers exactly where i landed.
Right now i'm not sure if my right wrist is merely badly sprained or fractured. My right leg is hurting & my backside is not only hurting but constantly bleeding. At the early morning twilight hours i couldn't make out the fishing line. If the line was in the water it could kill many endangered local species like Green Sea Turtles to Hawaiian Monk Seals by entanglement.
I'm in extreme pain & don't know how long this will sideline me. This happen all because a lazy angler most likely decided to re-spool his/her casting reel & left all the line just laying around to cause injury & possible death to wildlife. I spent 30min just cutting that line up & disposing it in a garbage can that was only 60-80ft away!
Please pick-up after your selfs. I always bring garbage bags for exactly this. I'm sharing my story here in hopes it'll ring a bell that says respect your environment.

So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
