Applied science is a discipline of science that applies existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical applications, like technology or inventions.
Within natural science, disciplines that are basic science, also called pure science, develop information to predict and perhaps explain—thus somehow understand—phenomena in the natural world. Applied science applies science to real world practice. This includes a broad range of science fields from Engineering to Child Care.
Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
The John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), a school within Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), serves as the connector and integrator of Harvard's teaching and research efforts in engineering, applied sciences, and technology.
Overview
Engineering and applied sciences at Harvard began with the creation of the Lawrence Scientific School in 1847 (named for donor Abbott Lawrence). The structure to support faculty and research in engineering applied sciences underwent several reorganizations (ranging from a school, department (several), and division) and names (from DEAP to DAS to DEAS) during the 19th and 20th centuries.
In February 2007, the Harvard Corporation and Overseers voted for the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences change its name to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). In September 2008, "Engineering a Renaissance,” was held to mark the creation of Harvard’s first new school in seven decades.
The Master of Applied Science degree program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is interdisciplinary and sufficiently flexible to meet the specific educational goals of individuals employed in a wide variety of applied life sciences.

Some of the scripting classes were really interesting and it was more like solving a puzzle to me and I found it really fun, so, I decided to switch over to that side of IT. With the Bachelor's of Applied Science we focus a lot more on project-based coursework versus just studying the theory behind all of the concepts we're learning. We talk about the latest news--we always have some assignment about research and making sure we have updated data. We're constantly doing projects and working in code and not just reading about it, so it's hands on learning for sure. Ken Hang has been a really big influence on my programming career and my work that I've done. He's able to provide us with a very strong understanding of how the industry works and things to prep for in the future. If it wasn't for Ken Hang, I wouldn't be here today. Because this is his baby--he built this program. And he was an amazing instructor before, and really looked up to him, and even more so now. It's exciting knowing that I'm going to be part of a graduating--first graduating class. We're kind of testing the waters here so it's kinda nice to be part of the first class that I assume many will follow. It's cool because they actually use our feedback and we've seen that in like how they're changing things with the second cohort--they take our feedback and they implement those changes. We get to help the next cohort. They're going through the same problems that we went through and now we're in a position to help them. And I take a lot of pleasure in helping other students." -
