Cocktails with a Curator: Holbein's "Sir Thomas More"
In this week’s episode of “Cocktails with a Curator,” Xavier F. Salomon, Deputy Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, examines one of the Frick’s most beloved paintings, Hans Holbein’s “Sir Thomas More.” Xavier considers More's relationship to humanist circles and the role of "friendship portraits" in making the absent present. In the words of More's devoted friend, Desiderius Erasmus, “life without a friend is no life." As a nod to the turbulent times of Tudor England, Xavier pairs this episode with a Bloody Mary cocktail.

Hans Holbein the Younger: ‘A man very excellent in taking of physionamies’ - Dr Susan Foister
An extensive overview of the art of Hans Holbein the Younger by Dr Susan Foister: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/hans-holbein-the-younger-a-man-very-excellent-in-making-of-physionamies
Hans Holbein the Younger, portraitist, muralist, designer of jewellery and precious metalware, spent half of his distinguished career in London during the turbulent reign of King Henry VIII.
Arriving in 1526 as a German speaking citizen of the city of Basel, Switzerland, he swiftly rose to become a court painter trusted to provide the likenesses of the King's potential Queens.
This lecture will explore Holbein's work as a resident of the City of London, and examine the tensions between artists of the court and the City as well as the synergies between London and the continent which made t...

At least your complexion will bring

Ignore the fear

We’ll turn this ‘vier’ into a nine

Cos now you’re in the Haus
IN THE HAUS OF HOLBEIN

THE HAUS OF HOLBEIN

look great

We know what all the best
inventions are
To hold everything up
Ja, it’s Wunderbar

From your bladder
Try these heels
So high it’s naughty
But we cannot guarantee that you’ll
still walk at forty
Ignore the fear

This lecture will explore Holbein's work as a resident of the City of London, and examine the tensions between artists of the court and the City as well as the synergies between London and the continent which made the Tudor metropolis a magnet for foreign artists seeking fame and fortune.
The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/hans-holbein-the-younger-a-man-very-excellent-in-making-of-physionamies

Arkaplan: Mary Queen of Scots (Bilerek bulanıklaştırdım, portre havası versin diye editledim çünkü şarkıdan aldığım hava buydu.)

Sözler:
Welcome to the house
To the Haus of Holbein
Ja, ooh ja, das ist gut
Ooh ja, ja
The Haus of Holbein
Hans Holbein goes around the world
Painting all of the beautiful girls
From Spain, to France And Germany
The king chooses one
But which one will it be?
You bring the corsets
We'll bring the cinches
No one wants a waist over nine inches
So what the make up contains lead poison?
At least your complexion will bring all the boys in
Ignore the fear, and you'll be fine
We'll turn this vier into a nine
So just say "ja" and don't say "nein"
'Cause now you're in the house
In the Haus of Holbein!
Ja, ooh ja, das ist gut
Ooh ja, ja
The Haus of Holbein
We must make sure the princesses look great
When their time comes for the Holbein portrait
We know what all the best inventions are
To hold everything up
Ja, it's wunderbar
For blonder hairs, then you just add a
Magical ingredient from your bladder
Try these heels, so high it's naughty
But we cannot guarantee that you'll still walk at 40
Ignore the fear and you'll be fine
We'll turn this vier into a nine
So just say "ja" and don't say "nein"
'Cause now you're in the house
In the Haus of Holbein!
Ooh ja, das ist gut
Ooh ja, ja
