Hail to the Thief is the sixth studio album by the English alternative rock band Radiohead, produced by Nigel Godrich and released on 9 June 2003. Following the electronic and jazz styles of Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), Hail to the Thief returned to the guitar rock of Radiohead's earlier albums, but retained electronic elements such as drum machines, synthesisers and digital manipulation. To avoid the protracted recording sessions of previous albums, the band recorded it quickly, employing a live, "spontaneous" approach.
Many of the album's lyrics were written in response to the War on Terror and the resurgence of right-wing politics in the West after the turn of the millennium. Songwriter and vocalist Thom Yorke said the album expresses "frustration and powerlessness and anger, and the huge gap between the people that put themselves in control and the people that allegedly voted for them."
Despite a high-profile internet leak ten weeks before its release, Hail to the Thief debuted at number one in the United Kingdom and number three in the United States. It produced three charting singles: "There There", "Go to Sleep" and "2 + 2 = 5". It is certified platinum in the UK, Canada and the US. It was acclaimed by critics and became the fifth consecutive Radiohead album to be nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. It was the last album released under Radiohead's six-album record contract with Parlophone.
The Thief is a 1952 American Cold Warfilm noirspy film, directed by Russell Rouse and starring Ray Milland. It's the third in a series of six classic film noir productions scripted by Rouse and his writing partner Clarence Greene. The film is unusual because there is no principal actor dialogue spoken.
The principal characters are not "fleshed-out", as they might be in a more conventional film, as this film is more about "trade-craft", not as much about the principal characters and their respective personalities. Not withstanding that observation, the film certainly depends upon the exceptionally strong dramatic performance by Ray Milland, and the equally strong music performance by composer/conductor Herschel Burke Gilbert. The film is nearly fully orchestrated by Gilbert.
Plot
Ray Milland plays Dr. Allan Fields, a nuclear physicist who works for the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C.. But Fields is also a spy working for an unnamed foreign power.
Through an elaborate series of plans and devices, "tradecraft", Fields, as ordered by his "case officer", takes sets of photos of top-secret documents, using a Minox camera, and passes these through a vast network of foreign-power "couriers" to New York City, and thereafter overseas to an enemy country (implied by the final courier's plane's destination of "Cairo", certainly a thinly-veiled reference to "the East", without actually naming the Soviet Union). The latest canister of microfilm which Fields sends out is intercepted by authorities after a courier is killed in a freak traffic accident in Manhattan, with the undeveloped microfilm canister in his hand. The FBI develops the microfilm, analyzes its contents and constructs a list of probable suspects within the AEC, one of whom is the "custodian" of the subject document, and who is initially interrogated.
The Thief is a luxury waterfront hotel located on Landgangen 1 on the islet of Tjuvholmen (Thief Islet) in Oslo, Norway, designed by the award-winning Mellbye Architects. The hotel opened on January 9, 2013, and is currently the only hotel designated as a Design Hotel in Norway. The Thief has 119 rooms and is a part of the Nordic Hotels & Resort chain owned by Forbes-billionaire Petter Stordalen. It is situated right next to the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, and thanks to a collaboration between the two, there is a large collection of contemporary art in the hotel. According to press reports, the hotel owned by Tjuvholmen KS had a price tag of 720 million NOK, giving each of the 119 rooms an average cost price of more than one million dollars.
History
The Thief is situated on Tjuvholmen, an islet that according to local historians was overrun by robbers and whores in the 18th century. Today Tjuvholmen is one of Norway's most innovative urban renewal projects.

Rebuilding Hail to the Thief
It's an open secret that Hail to the Thief came out with a pretty messy tracklisting. With the band considering the idea of reissuing the album, I thought it would be fun to speculate on the concept of them rearranging the track order; and how a potential re-done tracklisting for Hail to the Thief would turn out.

In today's video we take a look at Radiohead's Politically charged 6th album, Hail To The Thief.
▾ o p e n ▾
Hail to the Thief is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead. It was released on 9 June 2003 through Parlophone internationally and a day later through Capitol Records in the United States. It was the last album released under Radiohead's record contract with EMI, the parent company of Parlophone and Capitol.
After transitioning to a more electronic style on their albums Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), which were recorded through protracted studio experimentation, Radiohead sought to work more spontaneously, combining electronic and rock music. They recorded most of Hail to the Thief in two weeks in Los Angeles with their longtime producer Nigel Godrich, focusing on live takes rather than overdubs. The songwriter, Thom Yorke, wrote lyrics influenced by the unfolding war on terror, fairy tales and children's literature. The cover artwork, created by the artist Stanley Donwood, is a roadmap of Hollywood with words taken from roadside advertising in Los Angeles and from Yorke's lyrics.

It's an open secret that Hail to the Thief came out with a pretty messy tracklisting. With the band considering the idea of reissuing the album, I thought it would be fun to speculate on the concept of them rearranging the track order; and how a potential re-done tracklisting for Hail to the Thief would turn out.
HTTT Variants:
I thought I would be able to just upload the versions I edited to YouTube on my alt but they got blocked worldwide, even though I wasn't monetizing them. Seems kinda like no shit but sometimes full albums get uploaded to YouTube without getting taking down but I don't possess the juju to be able to do something like that. Well anyways
if you know of a way that I can share the album variants without getting sued to hell for committing a piracy then let me know cuz I'm a little stumped
Until then here's a Spotify link to The Gloaming (w.a.s.t.e variant):

Amnesiac was a left turn for the band, and Hail To The Thief is yet another change of direction for the band. While it has some of the bands best moments, it is also home to a bunch of songs that don't impress

Im Looking at you for a minute 900 people die Im Looking Away BECAUSE! i did And you can't Why? becuse im looking back Im citizen insane Im citizen insane Im a citizen now Look OUT! And then there is Hail To The Thief, which, ever since it arrived 20 years ago today, may be the Radiohead album the band and fans alike have wrangled over the most ... Hail To The Thief presents the opposite problem.
- Rank all-time. #167- Rank in decade. #26- Rank in year. #2- Year. 2003"Hail to the Thief" was defined by its electronic tones, a new sound for British rockers Radiohead. The album was seen as darker territory by a band ....
