Jedes Jahr brechen mehr als 10.000 junge Menschen von der Kleinstadt Mamou aus auf in Richtung Europa, Mamou ist das Epizentrum der illegalen Auswanderung in Guinea. Kaum die Hälfte von ihnen erreicht ihr Ziel, die anderen kehren wohl oder übel nach Hause zurück. In Guinea werden sie "die Rückkehrer" genannt.
Die "Rückkehrer" berichten von ihren schmerzhaften Erfahrungen in Algerien und Libyen. Nach Monaten der Sklaverei, Misshandlungen und manchmal auch Vergewaltigungen kehren sie freiwillig gescheitert und traumatisiert in ihr Land zurück, dort erwartet sie die Ablehnung ihrer Familien und der Gesellschaft.
