The GBI began operation in 1964 as a two element interferometer in order to test large aperture synthesis arrays and study radio astrometry and interstellarscintillation. In 1967 the array was upgraded with construction of the third element. From 1978-1996, it was operated in support of USNO and NRL geodetic and astronomy programs, but then briefly suspended operations.
The Green Bank Interferometer (GBI) resumed operation as a radio monitoring instrument on Nov. 22, 1996, operated by NRAO and supported by the NASA High Energy Astrophysics program. The GBI was then used as a two telescope interferometer that operated simultaneously at 2.7 and 8.3GHz to monitor transient, galactic X-ray binaries, AGN's and Gamma-ray sources. Amongst the prime sources were GRS 1915+105, GRO J1655-40, Cyg X-3, Cyg X-1, GRS 1716-249, SS433, and LS I +61 303.
EastWest Rural Bank, Inc. is a subsidiary of EastWest Unibank. It was formerly known as Green Bank (also known as the Rural Green Bank of Caraga), was a Philippine rural bank based in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte that was acquired by EastWest Unibank alongside with FinMan Bank, a rural bank based in Pasig City in 2013.
Prior to its acquisition it was the largest bank in the Caraga region in terms of assets, and it had 46 branches. It was also one of three rural banks to be affiliated with the Philippine interbank networkBancNet since 2006.
History
Green Bank was incorporated with the Filipino Securities and Exchange Commission as the Rural Bank of Nasipit on June 20, 1974. The bank commenced actual operations on April 5, 1975, originally to serve the municipality of Nasipit.
The bank took advantage of a government rediscounting program called Masagana 99, with the intention of helping poor farmers gain access to credit. However, in the 1980s, with the plunge of the Philippine economy into recession and the assassination of Benigno Aquino, Jr., Green Bank suffered a very high non-performing loan ratio due to the inability of its farmer-debtors to pay off their Masagana 99 loans. For the next few years, the bank's financial standing gradually deteriorated.
There's a town in West Virginia where there are tight restrictions on mobile signal, wifi and other parts of what most of us know as simply: modern life. It means Green Bank is a place unlike anywhere else in the world.
Green Bank sits at the heart of the National Radio Quiet Zone, a 13,000 square mile (33,669 sq km) area where certain types of transmissions are restricted so as not to create interference to the variety of instruments set up in the hills - as well as the Green Bank Observatory, there is also Sugar Grove, a US intelligence agency outpost.

The U.S. Town With No Cell Phones or Wi-Fi | National Geographic
Pocahontas County in West Virginia falls within the National Radio Quiet Zone. It’s home to quiet country living, friendly people, and one of the most impressive engineering marvels in the world—the Green Bank Telescope. The GBT measures radio waves from throughout the universe, but due to the telescope's extreme sensitivity, any operating wireless device can have a negative effect on its observations. But to the people who live in the NRQZ, the restrictions and the quiet, peaceful life that comes with them are welcome.

Green Bank Pastoral - True Story Documentary Channel
The sleepy village of Green Bank in the U.S. National Radio Quiet Zone is a huge draw for people with electro-hypersensitivity (EHS). The Town Where High Tech Meets a 1950s Lifestyle
Life in Green Bank, West Virginia, is far from ordinary. The small town sits inside a "national radio quiet zone" that houses one of the largest radio telescopes in the world. In other words: no microwave ovens, no cell phones, and no Wi-Fi. The sleepy village of Green Bank in the U.S. National Radio Quiet Zone is a huge draw for people with electro-hypersensitivity (EHS). The reason: Green Bank has an observatory of five radio telescopes, which can only operate in an area free from electromagnetic radiation. Mobile phones and laptops are therefore banned. Some residents have already moved more than thirty times before settling at Green Bank. They hope that this radiation-free spot will be a sanctuary where they can finally find peace. However, the move to this offline world doesn’t necessarily bring an end to their worries, because electro-hypersensitivity is often not their only problem. One resident explains that his wife not only has EHS, but a chemical allergy as well, so he has had to build their house himself using only natural materials. Director Federico Urdaneta gives his protagonists plenty of space to talk about their exceptional lifestyle—and to speak openly about their experience of being filmed. A fascinating glimpse into a world inhabited by, as one resident put it, “a high percentage of unusual people”.

Life in Green Bank, West Virginia, is far from ordinary. The small town sits inside a "national radio quiet zone" that houses one of the largest radio telescopes in the world. To ensure that astronomers work without interference, residents cannot use any product that transmits wireless signals within a ten-mile radius of the telescope. In other words: no microwave ovens, no cell phones, and no Wi-Fi. "Just about anything that uses electricity could potentially cause interference to our telescopes," says Jonah Bauserman, a technician for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

Dave Lee went to visit this unique area.

Tucked away in a valley in the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia, is this: the Green Bank Radio Telescope, the largest steerable radio telescope in the world. And there are some rather special rules for the area around it...
Thanks to Justin Richmond-Decker and Mike Holstine at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank for inviting me over and letting us film at the Telescope on one of their maintenance days! For more about the Green Bank Observatory: https://science.nrao.edu/facilities/gbt

Can you be ALLERGIC to WIFI? WiFi is Illegal in Green Bank West Virginia. Because of this, many who suffer from Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity have moved there to escape the grips of the world's growing technologies. However, one of the nations largest pieces of tech is located right in the middle of town...

What is Green Banking?
Green Banking is a type of banking that provides sustainable financial services. Green Banking can provide these sustainable financial services by using green finance to promote sustainability in the following areas:
- lending to companies and individuals who are committed to environmental responsibility;
- providing investment products that align with investor values, such as renewable energy quotas or carbon offsets;
- Reducing operational emissions through its operations.
