A Bram Stoker Tour of Dublin
Although legendary writer Bram Stoker spent his formative years in Ireland, he isn't always seen as a Dubliner.
However, he grew up in Marino, went to Trinity, and worked in Dublin Castle for several years before moving to London - and some of his experiences may have provided inspiration for Dracula.
We went on a whistle-stop tour around Dublin with Donal Fallon, local historian and the man behind ComeHereToMe.com, to find out more about the Gothic writer's connections to Dublin. Watch it above.

Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dracula (Gary Oldman) welcomes Jonathan (Keanu Reeves) inside his castle and tells him that he "never drinks wine."
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire. The major departure from Stoker is one of motivation as Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) is motivated more by romance than by bloodlust. He punctures the necks as a means of avenging the death of his wife in the 15th century, and when he comes to London, it is specifically to meet heroine Mina Harker (Winona Ryder), the living image of his late wife (Ryder plays a dual role, as do several of her costars). Anthony Hopkins is obsessed vampire hunter Van Helsing, while Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, and Tom Waits plays bug-eating Renfield. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the winner of three
Academy Awards.

The popularity of Emily Dickinson's poetry has always been bound up with interest in her unconventional life. In her lifetime she was the focus of town gossip and this speculation continues today: about her mental health, her beliefs and her sexuality.
It was only when Emily Dickinson died aged 55, and the nearly two-thousand poems she wrote mostly on scraps of paper, began to be discovered, did it become clear that beneath the plain nondescript white dress, was a truly revolutionary artist, and a woman...

This is a story about the American Dream. No other decade defined America like the 1920s. The country was coming into its own and fulfilling its promise of freedom and prosperity, but already the dream was showing its cracks, and the decade that followed would test America to its very core. One book would serve as a prophetic warning to its audience and still offer a glimmer of hope about the American ideal.

This video is dedicated to my great friends, and Joyce aficionado's Jean and Derry O'Sullivan.
Even before James Joyce’s Ulysses was published it was causing trouble. Short excerpts appeared in a review magazine, and the US postal service claiming it was pornography refused to deliver the magazines and then burnt all the copies.
Any publisher that thought about publishing Ulysses had to weigh up the possibility of being prosecuted for obscenity against the potential of bringing a masterpiece into the world. Most publishers wouldn’t touch it, but Sylvia Beach, owner of the Shakespeare and...

Herman Melville, the author of Moby-Dick, worked on a whaling ship as a harpoonist, literally at the sharp end of that gruesome business. And he took those experiences of life at sea and combined them with a love of William Shakespeare and the King James bible, to create a great American novel about obsession and compulsion. Moby-Dick pre-empts the work of Freud and Jung and the very modern quest to understand the psychology of the human mind, and it is just as much a story of the inner journey to the recesses of the human psyche as it is a jo...

The popularity of Emily Dickinson's poetry has always been bound up with interest in her unconventional life. In her lifetime she was the focus of town gossip and this speculation continues today: about her mental health, her beliefs and her sexuality.
It was only when Emily Dickinson died aged 55, and the nearly two-thousand poems she wrote mostly on scraps of paper, began to be discovered, did it become clear that beneath the plain nondescript white dress, was a truly revolutionary artist, and a woman who refused to live by society’s rules.

Most publishers wouldn’t touch it, but Sylvia Beach, owner of the Shakespeare and Co. bookshop in Paris, decided the risk was worth taking, and in 1922 Ulysses was published in Paris.
It is famously hard to read, and many never finish it, but the novel would go on to triumph over the criticism and censorship, to become one of the most highly regarded works of art in the 20th century.
Nothing much happens in Ulysses, two men wander around Dublin, and a woman lies in bed thinking, that’s it! But it is the story telling, the language and the humour that makes it a work of genius.

Moby-Dick pre-empts the work of Freud and Jung and the very modern quest to understand the psychology of the human mind, and it is just as much a story of the inner journey to the recesses of the human psyche as it is a journey across the vast blue oceans.
Moby-Dick is a complex metaphysical novel that looks for philosophy in whales, and for poetry in blubber.

Let’s find out why I think they can actually change your life!
1. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E.Frankl
I don’t think I need to say much about this book. You won’t be the same after reading it. You’ll see everything differently. You’ll see yourself differently. You’ll see others differently, and you’ll go through life with a different spirit.
2. The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku
Similar to Man’s Search for Meaning, this book will change everything about you. You’ll start to grasp that, no matter how hard you have it in your life, you can choose to be the happiest version of yourself.
3. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
The wisdom of Marcus Aurelius is something I don’t take for granted. The Stoic wisdom is perfect when it comes to dealing with daily life struggles. You’ll see how the Emperor of Rome was just as human and fragile as you are, but thanks to the Stoic wisdom, he could overcome life challenges more easily.
4. The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
This book set me on a financial journey that is going quite smoothly. It all started because of this book, which for some may seem banal, but for me it was a true gem, especially because I was so naive with money.
5. Atomic Habits by James Clear
Life is made of habits. A successful life is made of good habits repeated daily. This book teaches people how to build good habits and get rid of bad ones. A masterpiece of practicality and helpfulness.
6. Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins
The toughest man on earth is the evidence that we can always give more. I was never the same after encountering David Goggins. Whenever I think of him, I think that I have huge potential to overcome myself and my limiting beliefs.
7. The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene
This book increased my understanding of people and myself. It made me more aware of my flaws and and qualities. It made me think deeply about myself and made me more able to understand others. A masterpiece for mastering human nature.
