The constituency centres on Peel Common, Chalk Common and the River Alver that run north-south — its largest settlement is arguably the eastern town of Gosport. Gosport post town comprises several distinct villages and neighbourhoods on the south coast of England in Hampshire whereas the constituency comprises the whole of Gosport Borough (including Lee-on-the-Solent and Alverstoke) and includes Stubbington and Hill Head from the neighbouring Fareham Borough.
Constituency profile
Gosport has to date been a Conservative safe seat - an area with a majority of privately owned properties that has a minority of poor residents — two large housing estates in the south and east of Rowner for example are according to the 2001 census predominantly social housing and contain two of the most deprived output areas in terms of income and unemployment in the United Kingdom however is not of uniform characterisation. Rowner has a central conservation area of expensive housing and touches immediately to the west the Lee on Solent Golf Club, Grange Farm Museum, the West of the Alder Nature Reserve and the Wild Grounds Nature reserve. Beside its bowling green, allotments and recreation ground lies Grade I-architecture St Mary's Church. Unlike the generally expensive west of the borough, Rowner resembles central Gosport and Bridgemary in presenting a diverse picture retaining scenic and generally more rural surroundings than the City of Portsmouth with some areas of deprivation.
Until the last quarter of the 20th century, Gosport was a major naval town associated with the defence and supply infrastructure of Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth. As a result of a decline in these activities, many of its fortifications and installations, such as Fort Brockhurst, have been opened to the public as tourism and heritage sites, with extensive redevelopment of the harbour area as a marina.
The seat of Gosport has been held exclusively by the Conservatives since it was established in 1950. Five years ago Caroline Dinenage claimed over 51% of the votes, but with opinion polls suggesting a strong UKIP campaign ahead of the vote, was this Tory stronghold ever in doubt?
As expected Caroline Dinenage retained her seat and with a 55.3% share of the votes. The surprise came as UK Independence Party candidate, Christopher Wood claimed 2nd place with a massive 16.3% increase from 2010. We spoke to both candidates to get their reaction to the results.

Mike Hancock - who ran as an independent, had to settle for less than 2% support - the worry that he would split Lib Dem voters failing to materialise. All round though, the night - and the future of the constituency - now belongs to new MP, Flick Drummond.

The UK General Election in 2024 uses the new electoral boundaries. Only 65 of the 650 seats are staying the same. Some seats are new, while some are abolished. In these videos we look at why boundaries are changing, a summary of the new constituency including demographics and geography, how the population of the new constituency is formed from the old seats. Then we get into the politics. We present the results for each of the constituencies in 2019, then look at the trends for the main seat that is being replaced. For the main seat, we look who won, who came second, and the majority. We look at the graph of the vote share for the last 4 elections. Then we list the final list of candidates and make a prediction for the 2024 winner based on predictions using an optimistic scenario and a bad day for the Conservatives.

Innovating for Ageing was launched by Just Group, with the support of the International Longevity Centre (ILC), in January 2018. The project aims to identify solutions to the growing problem of vulnerability in later life by bringing together experts, innovators and groups who work to support vulnerable consumers. Its objective is to identify and support the development of products and services that will address the challenges faced by ageing consumers at risk of vulnerability due to physical disability, illness, dementia or financial exclusion.

Question Time in the House of Commons is an opportunity for MPs to question government ministers about matters for which they are responsible.
Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday that the House of Commons is sitting and gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister.
In most cases, the session starts with a routine 'open question' from an MP about the Prime Minister's engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.
The Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two.

Another upset for some in Portsmouth South. The Conservatives gained the former Lib Dem bastion as Nick Clegg's party lost an astounding 23% of their share of the vote. Mike Hancock - who ran as an independent, had to settle for less than 2% support - the worry that he would split Lib Dem voters failing to materialise. All round though, the night - and the future of the constituency - now belongs to new MP, Flick Drummond.
