Mount Lebanon (Arabic:جبل لبنان; Jabal Lubnān, Syriac:ܛܘܪ ܠܒܢܢ; ṭūr lébnon) is a mountain range in Lebanon. It averages above 2,500 metres (8,200ft) in elevation.
Geography
The Mount Lebanon range extends along the entire country for about 170km (110mi), parallel to the Mediterranean coast. Their highest peak is Qurnat as Sawda', at 3,088m (10,131ft). The range receives a substantial amount of precipitation, including snow, which averages around four meters deep.
The Phoenicians used the forests from Mount Lebanon to build their ship fleet and to trade with their Levantine neighbors. The Phoenicians and successor rulers consistently replanted and restocked the range so that even as late as the 16th century, its forested area was considerable.
Mt. Lebanon is a station on the "Beechview" branch of the Port Authority of Allegheny County's light rail network. It is located in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania and is served by the Red Line. The station features a small 24 space parking lot, making it a minor stop for park and ride commuters. It is located one block from Mt. Lebanon's busy Washington Road corridor, which is lined with business and office parks. Walkways connect the station with a public parking garage, also popular with commuters. Bus service connects many major residential streets directly with the station.
Ghosta has three schools, two private and one public, with a total of 772 students as of 2008. As of 2008, there were eleven companies with at least five employees operating in the village. It is home to the Congregation of Maronite Lebanese Missionaries and its main monastery, and the birthplace of Lebanese pioneer painter, Daoud Corm (1852 – 1930) and of pioneer Lebanese journalist, Philippe Ziade (1909–2005).
The earliest evidence of civilization in Lebanon dates back more than seven thousand years, predating recorded history. Lebanon was the home of the Canaanites/Phoenicians and their kingdom, a maritime culture that flourished for over a thousand years (c. 1550–539 BC). In 64 BC, the region came under the rule of the Roman Empire, and eventually became one of the Empire's leading centers of Christianity. In the Mount Lebanon range a monastic tradition known as the Maronite Church was established. As the ArabMuslims conquered the region, the Maronites held onto their religion and identity. However, a new religious group, the Druze, established themselves in Mount Lebanon as well, generating a religious divide that has lasted for centuries. During the Crusades, the Maronites re-established contact with the Roman Catholic Church and asserted their communion with Rome. The ties they established with the Latins have influenced the region into the modern era.
Lebanon is a mural size painting by Nabil Kanso depicting the Lebanese Civil War in a scene invoking the spirit and character of the people in the midst of horror and violence gripping the country. Amid the scene of chaos and devastation, two central figures reach across toward each other symbolically to represent the appeal for unity in defiance of the forces of division, destruction, and terror.
Description
Painted in oil on linen and completed in 1983, the painting Lebanon measures 28 feet (8.5 meters) long by 10 feet (3meters) tall. Its composition delineates three sections. At the center, two leaping female figures reach toward each other, almost touching. They are within grasp of a tiny pearl of white green light at the center of the canvas. In the foreground plane forming the base of the two converging figures, an appealing mother carrying a child appears bursting out from a torched pyramidal structure serving to balance and heighten the overall impact of the central scene.
Amanda Jo Abizaid is an American Lebanese singer/songwriter best known for her vocal performance on the theme song of the US TV series The 4400.
Early years
Abizaid was born in Beirut, Lebanon, to an American mother and a Mexican/Lebanese father. She traveled the Middle East and Europe with her family before the age of ten, when she moved with her mother and brother to the United States. Along with her four sisters, she formed a band and developed a talent for harmonies. Her first exposure to music was Middle Eastern music combined with the late 1970s American influences of Alice Cooper, Elton John, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and The Beatles.
After moving to the US, she lived in Poughkeepsie, NY until moving to Great Falls, Virginia for high school. She later attended the Corcoran School of Art in Georgetown and then transferred to The Catholic University of America to study drama and music, while pursuing a career in hairstyling. She dropped out of college to work as a runway model with designers such as Jacques Fath, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Badgley Mischka, Chloe and Bill Blass. She traveled to Paris and Germany and modeled for London designer Zandra Rhodes in the UK. Afterward, she returned to the US to live in Miami, Florida. In Miami, she met musician/songwriter Shane Soloski in the late 90's and decided to move to Los Angeles to form a band with him.

The Levant is a mixing pot for religious and cultural diversity which has given the world incredible displays of civilization. Unfortunately the mismanagement of this diversity has at times given way to outbursts of conflict. This is particularly the case in the modern period. As European imperial forces started to interfere with the affairs of a declining Ottoman Empire that was proving incapable of solving its own internal issues, sectarian and ethnic tensions spilled over in episodes of extreme violence. A prominent early example took place in the summer of 1860 when Ottoman Syria was beset by a civil conflict between its Christian, Muslim and Druze inhabitants. Having lived ...

Lamartine's Valley Mount Lebanon | 4K Aerial video footage | وادي لا مارتين
Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869), the French poet and politician, lived in Lebanon during his voyage to the Orient. He loved it and got inspired by it. There are many places in Lebanon named after him like Hamana, one of them is Lamartine Valley in Ras El Metn which was the source of inspiration for writing.
While he was in Beirut, on 7 December 1832, he lost his only remaining child, Julia. During his trip to Lebanon he had met prince Bashir Shihab II and prince Simon Karam, who were enthusiasts of poetry. A valley in Lebanon is still called the Valley of Lamartine as a commemoration of that visit, and the Lebanon cedar forest still harbors the "Lamartine Cedar", which is said to be the cedar under which Lamartine had sat 200 years ago. Pittsburgh Neighborhood Tours | Markham in Mt Lebanon
Are you considering a move to Pittsburgh and looking a for a great neighborhood with good schools? If so, you should definitely check out Mt Lebanon. While I serve just about every community in the Pittsburgh Metro area (including Allegheny County and the surrounding five counties), Mt Lebanon holds a special place in my heart (and my work). It is the place I called home and the area I probably have done the most real estate work.
I have done many neighborhood tours in the City of Pittsburgh as well as many suburban communities. In Mt Lebanon I have done driving tours of multiple neighborhoods and the list keeps going. This video is of the Markham area, also known as Beverly Heights.
Let me know what you think of Markham and if you...

Neighborhoods of Mt Lebanon | Best Places to Live in Pittsburgh Series
Mt Lebanon has over 30,000 residents spread out over 6 square miles. There are 23 neighborhoods within Mt Lebanon, and this video showcases four of my favorite neighborhoods: Marhkam (Beverly Heights), Twin Hills, Sunset Hills, and Mission Hills.
Mt Lebanon has a lot to offer including top-ranked schools, thriving business districts, and friendly residents. Walkability to schools, parks, churches, shops, and the light rail is also a major plus. And given the popularity of Mt Lebanon, finding a home to buy can be a challenge. Most prospective Mt Lebanon home buyers are willing to consider all neighborhoods in the community.

Having lived together in relative peace for centuries, the different groups drew arms in clashes that saw tens of thousands of people get killed. The repercussions of the feud would go on to influence the Levant for decades to come. In the case of Lebanon specifically, it is not an exaggeration to say that it determined its future to the present day.

Lamartine was so influenced by his trip that he staged his 1838 epic poem La Chute d'un ange (The Fall of an Angel) in Lebanon.

Let me know what you think of Markham and if you have any questions. Thanks for coming along for the ride! See you in the next video!

Lamartine was so influenced by his trip that he staged his 1838 epic poem La Chute d'un ange (The Fall of an Angel) in Lebanon.
