8 Reasons to See the Ghent Altarpiece (Mystic Lamb) Before You Die
The Ghent Altarpiece is the most influential painting ever, the most frequently stolen artwork in the world (7 times), and the most desired art object in history, but few Americans know about it. Both Napoleon and Hitler stole it for their national museums. It is the only piece of art specifically named in the surrender terms after World War I. No other painting in the world inspired and influenced the likes of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, and all other Renaissance artists. Officially known as the “Adoration of the Mystic Lamb,” here are 8 reasons to visit Belgium to see this world famous work of art before you die.

Historic Ghent Altarpiece re-opens to the public in Belgium
It's considered one of the most important pieces of early renaissance art - the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb - or the Ghent Altarpiece. Painted by brothers Jan and Hubert van Eyck - it dates back to the early fifteenth century. Recently restored - it's gone on display in a new state-of-the-art setting - as the BBC's Tim Allman explains.
