Parkinson interviews Oliver Reed - 1973 - pt1
Oliver Reed is now best remembered for the chat show appearances where he turned up apparently 18 sheets to the wind and made an arse of himself. It was not always so. When sober, he was a dream guest. Lucid, interesting, thoughtful, funny and a fund of superb anecdotes. Here he is in 1973, with Parky, Dame Isobel Barnett, and Mickey & Sherri Spillane. Remember him THIS way.

Oliver Reed on Letterman, August 5, 1987 (full, stereo)
Oliver Reed's infamous appearance on Late Night. Included here are his two segments; his participation in a short intro-to-repeat clip that was taped during the break following his interview that then aired the following Monday; and Dave's post-interview musings.
It's also Robert Morton's first day as the show's producer (replacing Barry Sand), so Dave and Paul give Morty a hard time on how well his first show is going. Dave appears to be both amused and flustered with his encounter with Reed.

The Seekers - Georgy Girl (1967 - Stereo)
Back in 1967, when The Seekers returned home to Australia for a visit, little did they know that their free concert at the Myer Music Bowl in their home town of Melbourne would break attendance records for the Southern hemisphere and TV ratings records for Australia!
The concert formed part of the TV special 'The Seekers at Home and Down Under'. The group sang live on the day, but because no promo video existed for the original (1966) hit version of the song, it is this which I've used for the audio, extending the video to include the middle 8 bars. The DVD 'The Legendary TV Specials' with the live audio, (along with all The Seekers' hits and much more) is available to buy & spent several weeks at #1! Here's the version with live audio for comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWZ-F...

The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

About the artist :
The Seekers is an Australian quartet folk music-influenced pop music group which was originally formed in Melbourne in 1962. They were the first Australian popular music group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States. They were popular during the 1960s with their best-known configuration as: Judith Durham on vocals, piano and tambourine; Athol Guy on double bass and vocals; Keith Potger on twelve-string guitar, banjo and vocals; and Bruce Woodley on guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals.
The group had top 10 hits in the 1960s with "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own", "Morningtown Ride", "The Carnival Is Over" (Russian folk song which the Seekers have sung at various closing ceremonies in Australia, including World Expo 88 and the Paralympics and still stands as the 30th best selling song in the United Kingdom), "Someday One Day", and "Georgy Girl" (the title song of the film of the same name). Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described their style as "concentrated on a bright, uptempo sound, although they were too pop to be considered strictly folk and too folk to be rock."
In 1968, they were named as joint Australians of the Year -- the only group thus honoured. In July of that year, Durham left to pursue a solo career and the group disbanded. The band reformed periodically and, in 1995, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. "I'll Never Find Another You" was added to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia's Sounds of Australia registry in 2011. Woodley's and Dobe Newton's song "I Am Australian", which was recorded by the Seekers, and by Durham with Russell Hitchcock and Mandawuy Yunupingu, has become an unofficial Australian anthem. As from 2004, the Seekers have sold over 50 million records.
