History Fire Extinguisher
History Fire Extinguisher
The first fire extinguisher of which there is any record was patented in England in 1723 by Ambrose Godfrey, a celebrated chemist at that time. It consisted of a cask of fire-extinguishing liquid containing a pewter chamber of gunpowder. This was connected with a system of fuses which were ignited, exploding the gunpowder and scattering the solution. This device was probably used to a limited extent, as Bradley's Weekly Messenger for November 7, 1729, refers to its efficiency in stopping a fire in London.
The modern fire extinguisher was invented by British Captain George William Manby in 1818; it consisted of a copper vessel of 3 gallons (13.6 liters) of pearl ash (potassium carbonate) solution contained within compressed air.

LIFEBOAT AND MANBY APPARATUS GOING OFF TO A STRANDED VESSEL MAKING SIGNAL BLUE LIGHTS OF DISTRESS by J.M.W. Turner, c. 1831, Oil on canvas, 914 x 1220 mm
THIS PAINTING IS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AS A HANDMADE OIL REPRODUCTION FROM 1ST ART GALLERY: https://www.1st-art-gallery.com/Joseph-Mallord-William-Turner/Lifeboat-And-Manby-Apparatus-Going-Off-To-A-Stranded-Vessel-Making-Signal-Blue-Lights-Of-Distress-C.1831.html
ABOUT THIS PAINTING: The early 19th Century romantic painter, JMW Turner is usually associated with his dramatic, and often violent maritime paintings. In another video we discussed his work “The Fighting Termeraire,” which chronicled the demise of a once noble and valiant British war ship.
With this work, “Life-boat and Manby Apparatus Going Off to a Stranded Vessel Making Signal Blue Lights of Distress,” the unwieldy title says it all.
With the advent of the Industrial Revolution came greater production of goods. International trading also increased. Which also meant an increase in shipwrecks.
The Manby apparatus in the title refers to the invention designed by George Manby for rescuing crew and passengers from floundering ships. It consisted of a mortar that would fire a projectile with rope attached. The rope was secured to the ship creating a life-line, like a modern zip line, to convey those aboard the distressed ship to safety.
The vessel is barely visible, although the distress flares firing from the ship, the direction of the rescue boat and the trajectory of the projectile from the Manby mortar all help to triangulate the ship’s location.
Turner excels at this type of painting where the volatile and destructive elements of nature converge with human drama. Turner further enhances the spectacle by rendering the participants—the rescuers, woman and and children and others as miniscule in comparison the raging ocean, and the force of the storm.
Turner handles his oils as if they were watercolors, applied thinly and in washes, punctuated in places with opaque whites and more intense colors. This painting as well as his later works presage atmospheric style of Whistler, Monet and the Impressionists.

9)Newton’s Laws
Isaac Newton was a British physicist and mathematician. Born in 1642, Newton discovered and documented for the first time three laws of motion. Newton’s work is some of the most influential in the history of modern science, many regarding him to be one of the most important scientists in human history.
8)Programmable Computer
the first programmable computer was invented by British mathematician and scientist Charles Babbage in the 1820s. Although he is recognized as the inventor of the programmable computer, Babbage did not live to see the machine completed as it was finished after his death. Many computers today were only possible because of charle's work.
7)the World Wide Web,
invented by British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, is the system of interlinked hypertext documents, accessed via the Internet. The World Wide Web is most commonly experienced as the system behind the concept of web pages and websites. The first website, went live on 6th August 1991. Interestingly, Berners-Lee, although realizing the potential for immense personal profit from his invention, chose instead to gift the idea to the world, requesting no payment.
6)Television
The world’s first television was invented by British inventor John Logie Baird in 1925 . the television displayed a 30 line vertically scanned image at 5 frames per second Logie Baird’s invention paved the way for what is now nearly a century of work on the development of television technology, which remains one of the most influential inventions in history.
5)Telephone
The telephone was invented by British inventor Alexander Graham Bell .Bell became interested in technology to transmit sound, Leaving his job a the university, he made the decision to pursue his personal research on the subject. In 1875, Bell created the first telephone leading to the development of mobile phones which we use in our everyday lives.

joseph aspidin came up with the first methord for making cement which today is used as building material around the world and has allowed for massive improvmenets in the construction of buildings.
2)fire extinguisher: George William Manby, 1818
George William Manby invented the first fire extinguisher, a copper cylinder which held three gallons of water, and used compressed air to send the water through a narrow tube which could be aimed toward a fire.fire extinguishers have helped to save many lives and buildings.
1Theory of Evolution
Darwin was the first person to propose the now popular theories of evolution. it was a highly controversial theory, since it the bible says -man was created in the image of god- while darwins theory said that humans were once smaller and simpler organisms that evolved into humans Charles Darwin was ridiculed for his work until his death on 19th April 1882 from heart disease, likely brought on from years of illness, overwork and stress. Thanks to charles darwins discovery we have been able to make huge improvements to medicine. I think darwin is a inspiration to man kind because he published his works knowing how it would benefit the human race understanding that at the time his reputation as a scientist would be destoryed.
