King George III’s Daughters: Naughty in the Nunnery
King George III of Great Britain and of Ireland and his German wife, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz had a close and loving relationship which resulted in an astonishing 15 Children! Charlotte was Britain’s first known bi-racial Queen. Though her black moor ancestor, Madragana was 13 generations back. The King and Queen turned down every prince who sought one of their daughter’s hands. The women were kept shut up in Kew Palace, which they grudgingly called the nunnery, bored out of their minds. Prevented from starting lives of their own, the princesses got up to plenty of trouble within the palace walls. Let’s meet King George III’s 6 daughters...

George III was King of Great Britain and of Ireland from 25th October 1760 until the union of the two kingdoms in 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death in 1820. His legacy is mixed, with him being remembered as the tyrant King or the mad King, due to his contribution in making America seek independence from the British Empire, and his suffering from various mental illnesses. He oversaw several key periods in British history, such as the Seven Years War, the American War of Independence, the end of the transatlantic slave trade and the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. He was extremely popular in his lifetime and is thought of as one of the most successful monarchs in British history, coming in third as the longest reigning monarchs, behind Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria. However, despite this, all anyone seems to remember about him is that he was MAD!
This short 7 minute documentary will cover his life, his achievements and his mental illness with the aim to answer the question - How Mad Was King George III?

King George III of Great Britain and of Ireland and his German wife, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz had a close and loving relationship which resulted in an astonishing 15 Children! George's sons were far too interested in their lovers to contract legal royal marriages and produce legitimate heirs to the throne. Towards the end of King George’s life he didn’t have a single legitimate grandchild, and parliament had to bribe the middle aged princes to finally walk down the aisle. The result was Queen Victoria who had to deal with bad reputations of her wicked uncles for years to come. Let’s meet King George III’s 15 children, beginning with the eldest 3 sons, two of who became Kings.

*Errors &, Corrections: 1) I incorrectly stated that George's daughters Mary and Louisa were born in 1721 and 1723 respectively. In fact they were born in 1723 and 1724 respectively. 2) I incorrectly stated in the video that George's caregiver (Frau Von Harling) in early life was a male, when in fact it was a female.
Charlotte, Queen of Württemberg
Princess Augusta Sophia
Elizabeth, Landgravine of Hesse-Homburg
Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh
Princess Sophia
Princess Amelia
