Barrett was the son of a farmer of Wheeler Street, a small hamlet in Surrey. At an early age, although engaged in daily labour, he made, unaided, considerable progress in mathematics, taking special interest in the class of problems connected with the duration of human life.
He afterwards, during a period of twenty-five years (1786–1811), laboured assiduously at his great series of life assurance and annuity tables, working all the while, first as a schoolmaster, afterwards as a land steward, for the maintenance of younger relatives, to whose support he devoted a great part of his earnings.
In 1813, he became actuary to the Hope Life Office, but retained that appointment for little more than two years. In the worldly sense his life was all failure. At the age of sixty-four he retired, broken in health and worn in spirit, to pass his remaining days with his sisters, at whose house in Godalming he died in 1821.
Colin George Barrett (29 May 1863 – 25 February 1898), was a leading jockey in the United Kingdom in the 1880s and 1890s. He was born on 29 May 1863 in Metfield, Suffolk. He was apprentice jockey to W. H. Manser at Newmarket. His first ride came in July 1877, with him riding his first winner. During his early career he could do weights as low at 5 st 7 lb (34.9 kg). He rode six winners in his first year. His first classic win came the 1885 1000 Guineas aboard Farewell. He rode the unbeaten Ormonde to victory in the 2000 Guineas in 1886 after regular jockey Fred Archer riding Saraband. In 1892 he rode Orme and La Fleche to a number of top class victories. Barrett was never champion jockey, but was second four times, including finished four winners behind Morny Cannon in 1891. He stopped riding after 1894, when his health began to fail, and died on 25 February 1898.
"Blind Man" is a track written by the Kentucky-based Black Stone Cherry and the first single from their newly released album, Folklore And Superstition. The band released the new track on their MySpace June 18, 2008 and the single was released on the iTunes Store on June 16, 2008. It is also in Dirt 2.
Music video
The music video was shot on July 10, 2008 in Louisville, Kentucky at the famous Waverly Hills Sanatorium and directed by David Sutton, was released August 18, 2008.
The first time they played "Blind Man" live was in Rockford, Illinois at WXRX Wing Ding.
The song is about a sad blind man who is living his last days.
It is the tenth and final track in the band's sophomore album One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back and it was recorded at Chapel Studios, South Thoresby, Lincolnshire; Paul Smith Music Studios, London.
Release history
The song has been released in three different albums:
On 1 April 2008 in the first compilation album "The Platinum Collection".
On 4 August 2008 in the second compilation album "2 in 1: Permission to Land/One Way Ticket to Hell".
Critical reception
AllMusic criticized the song saying that it sounds too much like stale Meat Loaf.
Pitchfork Media commented that Baker makes like Michael Kamen in conducting orchestral embellishments to Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time or Blind Man, but nothing hits the November Rain epic heights the band so desperately wants to reach.

CCTV captures moment before man kills friend with a single punch
Thomas Brand (inset right) floored Anthony Richardson (inset left) outside the Chesterfield in Newcastle, causing his victim to smack his head on the concrete and suffer a bleed on the brain. Chilling CCTV footage (main) captured the sickening attack that ended the 46-year-old's life. The beating was the second that 'gentle' Mr Richardson was subjected to that day as, hours before, Brand's friend Nathan Aldus had knocked him out in another bar.

Gray socks and black shoes, black hair and eyes so true A smile like a cool wind blowing through lips that kiss like a fool These are the memories I have of you No, these are the gifts I took from you Your skin is so close to mine that it seems to know my name And your laugh -- well, let's just say Something wicked this way came And in this old hotel my heart pounds like a drum It beats with the rhythm of missing you This is the rhythm of missing you Chorus: Take a look at the blind man, the fool ain't got no cane The blind man he's dancing in the driving rain Well, I am that blind man and I can finally see What I've always known: you belong to me There ain't nothing wrong with this hotel that a big bomb couldn't fix My doorman he's a reprobate and the maid she's been turning tricks And in my broken sleep I wake up from some pain My heart drifts through the window and sails into the rain Oh Lord, I miss you, I miss you here in the dark This comes from Nashville, baby It's a call from a wounded heart And if I want this heart of mine to ever mend I guess I'm gonna have to find you again
