Genoa Italy 🇮🇹 | LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP... Here's why?
Genoa, Italy really surprised us... in a good way and a bad way!!!
There are so many things to do in Genoa, beautiful sights to explore, and amazing food to eat! Torta e Farinata, Via Balbi, Piazza De ferrari, Via XX Settembre, Christopher Columbus House, St. Andrew cloister ruins, Porta Soprana, Santa Maria Di Castello, Porto Antico, Palazzo San Giorgio, Cattedrale Di San Lorenzo, Zena Zuena, Galleria Giuseppe Mazzini, Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, Le Fantasie Di Gio, Focaccia e Dintorni. The Ligurian Coast has a very different feel to say... the Amalfi BUT that's not all. The Italian people, the architecture & the ambience is VERY DIFFERENT. It took a while for us to adjust. The French influence is strong throughout the city! We love you I...

Genoa: City of migrants | VPRO Documentary
Genoa is a haven city in Italy. In Genoa, tens of thousands of African migrants arrive, and the city and its inhabitants are overwhelmed by this flood of men. Administratively, the migrants are stuck in Genoa, and the locals have to live with the migrants, the criminality, and the shift in Genoa's culture, highly visible in the emblematic street Via di Pré.
In this VPRO travel series Via Genoa, writer Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer speaks with the colorful inhabitants of his hometown, the Italian port city of Genoa. Pfeijffer shows how Italy changes politically, socially and economically with all the newcomers.
In this first episode Ilja identifies the problems: in the neighborhood, many unemployed African migrants live, and many migrants do not have a residence permit. To have a residence permi...

The Strangest Elevator In Italy: the Ascensore Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto, Genoa
Continuing the occasional Weird European Infrastructure Tour: an Italian lift that switches direction from horizontal to vertical. And honestly, until someone pointed it out to me, I could not figure out how this could possibly be done safely. In hindsight, it was kind of obvious.
(By the way, the Ascensore Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto is known by a few names: I went by the one that seems most commonly used online by both Italian-speaking and English-speaking folk.)

travel videos & photos at: https://townsofeurope.com/ with text, maps & links.
One of Italy's most interesting but overlooked cities is Genoa, with its delightful waterfront promenades, a collection of classic old buildings, monumental statues, and my favorite attraction of the city, a vast pedestrian zone, one of Europe's largest, making a delightful place to go for a stroll.
00:00 intro
00:24 little alleys
00:48 not crowded
1:14 waterfront
2:07 via Garibaldi palaces
2:36 pedestrian zone
3:25 main lanes
3:40 restaurants
4:12 Italian Riviera
Genova has an amazing number of those little side alleys. They go around, and up and down. Some of them are very quiet, like this one. Others are lined with shops and filled with people walking around. It's got so much character you could easily spend days in the maze of alleys of Genoa.
You're about to see that Genoa is a wonderful place with many exciting attractions, and yet it's not in the top 20 most-visited places in Italy, even though it's the country's sixth-largest city with a population just over half a million, Genoa is not one of those cities that's overcrowded with tourists, which makes it a delightful place to visit.
There are many enjoyable things to see and do in Genoa, for example, along the waterfront, you've got the beautiful marina, there's a maritime museum reflecting Genoa's long history, and the largest aquarium in Italy, one of the city's most popular attractions. Among the favorite exhibits are the manatees and the penguins, along with 15,000 other animals representing 400 different species in a beautiful building designed by the famous local architect, Renzo Piano, who also designed this crane that can lift you up 40 meters for a spectacular aerial view of Genoa. Another great view is from Spianata Castelletto, with a commanding view over the whole city.
Pastel-colored buildings are typical of this region of Liguria, and one place you find a lot of them is along via Garibaldi, lined with historic palaces that are UNESCO World Heritage sites, ranking among the city's top visitor attractions.
Nearby is Palazzo Reale, the Royal Palace museum, constructed in the mid-17th century, complete with frescoes, stucco paintings, sculptures and furnishings that belonged to the noble families who lived there.
One of the great aspects of Genoa is the pedestrian zone. It's so enjoyable to walk around without any cars getting in the way, down lanes that are lined with shops, and cafes and restaurants, making a great place for people-watching.
And there are many quiet side lanes, without shops and fancy attractions, but an authentic down-to-earth feeling to them. This is where the local people do their business, talk with friends, and live upstairs in the many apartments that you find in this central core of the city.
Genoa is densely populated, with this downtown about two kilometers across, packed with commercial and residential buildings, with those little lanes running between them. About half-dozen of those pedestrian lanes, outlined in red, are the main streets that you would enjoy exploring. It's a safe place, but you might get a little lost, so it does help to have a map as you're wandering around.
It's also wonderful to explore at night, where you'll find many dozens of outdoor restaurants.
Towards the end of one of the main streets, you'll reach an indoor collection of restaurants called the Oriental Market, a popular gathering spot with many different choices of cuisine.
There is a lot more to see in this beautiful city, with its hundred pedestrian lanes, and we didn't even get to the church is yet, but this is only been a brief four-minute summary of the wonderful city of Genoa.
Genoa is at the center of the Italian Riviera, with towns stretching east and west.
When you've finished your visit, there are many other great towns to explore throughout northern Italy, all of them easily reached by train.
We frequently upload new movies, so please subscribe to our channel and click that little alarm bell so you'll be notified. And if you enjoyed the movie, how about a thumbs up and we always welcome comments down below. Or if you have questions about the destination, make note and we'll answer them. Thanks for watching.

So, you're wondering what to do in Genoa, Italy? Here are our top ten suggestions for what to see and what to eat in Genova.
00:00 About Genoa
Thanks to its rich history, Genoa offers amazing historical sights, impressive monuments and many wonderful flavors of the local cuisine. It’s known as Christopher Columbus' and virtuoso Niccolò Paganini’s birthplace and one of the most important ports in Mediterranean.
00:17 Via Garibaldi
00:38 Piazza De Ferrari
01:05 Porta Soprana, Christopher Columbus’ house and Cloister of Sant'Andrea
01:36 Cattedrale di San Lorenzo (Genoa Cathedral)
01:59 Arco della Vittoria
02:25 Via XX Settembre and Mercato Orientale
03:03 Spianata Castelletto (The View)
03:24 Boccadasse
03:41 Porto Antico (Old Harbor)
04:07 Bonus Tip - Food, Pesto Genovese
04:45 Acquario di Genova
05:18 Final thoughts
Genoa is a somewhat decayed noble port town and this, however, is what makes it so interesting and pretty. Difference between a culturally diverse port city, and the charm of centuries of history, is very present. The city is a good base to explore the Italian Riviera or to continue your journey to Milan, Florence or Venice.

We love you Italy...

We are Eleise and Lawrence & Nyh – A young family from the south of England. Like many people the pandemic gave us a shake up! While watching hours of Mark Weins in Thailand – We had our “Ah ha” Moment. We decided we wanted to travel.
Enjoying working for ourselves, we didn’t want to give up our business and decided it was entirely possible for us to do both. So we set about making it our lifestyle to work in the UK for a month, and then travel for a month – month on, month off…. until our little boy Nyh goes to school! We want to inspire people that you don’t have to up-sticks, sell all your belongings and leave behind family to be able to see the world.

Our Philosophy. Work, Travel, Repeat.

To have a residence permit they need an employment contract. But there are no jobs for migrants. For this reason, via di Prè became a criminal street, where you avoid eye contact and keep on walking. Even locals do not want to go on Via di Pré anymore.
The new police boss, Sergia Bracco, increased the number of patrols in central Genoa. The reason for this was the neighborhood residents and shopkeepers complaining, the terrorist attacks in other European cities and the various fake bombings in the city. Regular military and police patrols roam the city.
Every day, new Africans arrive in Genoa looking for work that doesn't seem to be real. At present, these are mostly young men from West Africa. In Lampedusa and the reception centers in Sicily they are divided among the Italian municipalities. Genoa currently has over 3000 registered asylum seekers. In the last month of December, tens of thousands came up daily. During the winter season, there are fewer arrivals on the southern Italian coasts, but the prospects are that 2017 will be another record year.
This shows how Italy has changed on the wings of migration over recent decades. Italians traded their salami, cheeses and vegetables and fruits for Senegalese seafood restaurants, Nigerian barbers and Moroccan kebab stores. During the nightly hours, the Italians in this part of the city can be counted on one hand.
