General Authority of Civil Aviation
The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia (GACA, Arabic: الهيئة العامة للطيران المدني) is the national institution of Saudi Arabia in charge of aviation and related matters, headquartered in central Jeddah.
GACA emerged from the former Presidency of Civil Aviation (PCA, مصلحة الطيران المدني) that was created when the institution controlling aviation was split into a civil department and the Royal Saudi Air Force. The Presidency of Civil Aviation was among others also in charge of the Saudi Arabian Airlines and the Meteorology Department. The Saudi Arabian Airlines was split from the Presidency of Civil Aviation in 1960 and became an independent public institution in 1963. The Meteorology Department became an independent institution with own budget in 1966. The name of the Presidency of Civil Aviation was changed to General Authority of Civil Aviation in 1977.
The former president of GACA is Faisal Hamad AlSugair. Its current president is Fahd bin Abdullah, brother of Faisal bin Abdullah. Fahd bin Abdullah was appointed to this post in November 2011.

Civil aviation is one of two major categories of flying, representing all non-military aviation, both private and commercial. Most of the countries in the world are members of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and work together to establish common standards and recommended practices for civil aviation through that agency.

Although scheduled air transport is the larger operation in terms of passenger numbers, GA is larger in the number of flights (and flight hours, in the U.S.) In the U.S., GA carries 166 million passengers each year, more than any individual airline, though less than all the airlines combined. Since 2004, the US Airlines combined have carried over 600 million passengers each year, and in 2014, they carried a combined 662,819,232 passengers.

General authority
In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), a general authority is a member of the highest levels of leadership in the church who has administrative and ecclesiastical authority over the church. A general authority's jurisdiction is church-wide, in contrast to the responsibilities of a local authority or an area authority, which relate to a particular area, unit, or department of the church. As a group, the general authorities are often referred to as "the Brethren". As of May 2014, the number of general authorities is 106.
Origin of the term
The first scriptural use of the term general authority was in minutes of a meeting for the organization of the Presiding High Council in 1834. Though the original minutes did not refer to the term general authorities, the revised minutes, which were included in the 1835 edition of the Doctrine and Covenants, stated that decisions of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles "can only be called into question by the general authorities of the church in case of transgression." The use of the term general authorities at this time and in this context is generally interpreted to include the First Presidency and the Presiding High Council.

Current statistics indicate approximately 80 percent of airplane accidents are due to human error (pilots, air traffic controllers, mechanics, etc.) and 20 percent are due to machine (equipment) failures.
The film opens with a small private aircraft flying overhead, a Piper Cub with skis affixed 1:25. Man draws an airplane and a man on a blackboard. He illustrates that 5% of fatal accidents can be traced to the factory or equipment of an airplane 2:04. The man draws a pilot – pilots are responsible for 85% of total fatal airplane accidents 2:33. A man walks away from his Piper Cub 3:00. A pilot enters his car 3:20. A pilot lights a cigarette and speaks confidently about his flying prowess 3:34. Two men approach a plane and talk about doing stunts 3:56. A woman pilot sits in the cockpit 4:40. A VFR pilot walks from his plane 5:00. A pilot is indecisive as he lands his plane 5:20. Man and woman sit in a bar and order drinks 5:40. Pilot leaves his car and enters the hangar after having drinks and he takes off in poor weather 6:21. Piper J-3 Cub is covered in snow 6:30. Men dig out the airplane from the snowbank 6:48. Plane takes off with skis over the snow 7:05. Clouds roll in 7:30. Man tracks a route on a map 7:38. Aviation Forecast book is consulted 8:03. Pilot number one takes off in questionable weather in his Beechcraft Bonanza 8:25. Pilot number two plans a flight to Kentucky 8:47. Pilot number one encounters rain squalls 9:22. The Weather Bureau reports that a squall line is building across the area and visibility is becoming restricted 9:45. Communications directors contact the pilots 10:00. Pilot is approaching whether that is below VFR regulations and he is not instrument rated 10:11. The clouds darken 10:21. Pilot number two sees a hole through the clouds and tries to go over the top of the clouds 10:34. Squalls are developing to the right of pilot number one 11:00. Pilot number one is not instrument rated and decides to land his plane 11:32. Communications experts mark weather patterns on a map 12:00. A squall line is marked on the map 12:14. Holes in the clouds disappear rapidly 12:30. Pilot number one lands in Louisville and squeezes and ahead of the storm 12:49. Pilot number two is on top of the storm 13:10. He is looking for a hole to go down through 13:20. Pilot number two makes his decision to go down through a hole and picks up ice on his windshield – a dangerous situation 13:52. Pilot number two is in danger as he is not instrument rated. Dark clouds loom on the horizon. A plane is safely on the ground. The End. Aviation Safety Film.

This is the definitive celebration of Britain s first national airline Imperial Airways. Imperial Airways were the forerunner of BOAC, BEA and the British Airways of today. In 1924, the British Government amalgamated many of the complicated array of pioneering small British airlines into one company, Imperial Airways.Original newsreels give us a fascinating and detailed insight into early operations from London s first airport in Croydon - At first, the passengers flew in comfort while the pilot still sat in an open cockpit! By 1926, there were whole fleets of airliners and new flying boats were commissioned. Amy Johnson arrived from Australia in 1929 and by 1930 the new Handley Page four-engined airliners became reality.Pioneering is dangerous - as the R-101 Airship crash proved to the airlines. Imperial Airways even experimented with a radio link between The Flying Scotsman and one of its aircraft. Imperial Airways flew the first car and even transmitted Jack Hylton and his band live from the air.Throughout the 1930s, Imperial Airways kept expanding throughout the Empire over to Australia. We spend 24 hours in Sharjah and witness a nasty crash at Croydon! 1936 saw the birth of the new giant Empire flying boats and in 1937, Imperial Airways became air partners with PanAmerican and trans-oceanic flying was born.The hazards of ice, early air-to-air refuelling and the Short Mayo Composite aircraft are also shown and explained.Aircraft included : Handley Page W8, W9, W10 and HP42. NASAO, the National Association of State Aviation Officials and AOPA Foundation Inc. presents, The Flight Decision. Produced by Film Originals in 1955. Technical Director, Chet Moulten.
This 1950s era, color film follows two pilots through their flight decision process relative to instrument flight vs. visual flight rules. The film examines why a pilot might make a poor decision while another makes a good decision, with laziness and overconfidence pointed to key factors in making a misjudgment. At the time, the film indicates that 85% of fatal accidents were due to pilot error. Current statistics indicate approximately 80 percent of airplane accidents are due to human error (pilots, air traffic controllers, mechanics, etc.) and 20 percent are due to machine (equipment) failures.
The film opens with a small private aircraft flying overhead, a Piper Cub with skis affixed 1:25. Man draws an airplane and a man on a blackboard. He illustrates that 5% of fatal accidents can be traced to the factory or equipment of an airplane 2:04. The man draws a pilot – pilots are responsible for 85% of total fatal airplane accidents 2:33. A man walks away from his Piper Cub 3:00. A pilot enters his car 3:20. A pilot lights a cigarette and speaks confidently about his flying prowess 3:34. Two men approach a plane and talk about doing stunts 3:56. A woman pilot sits in the cockpit 4:40. A VFR pilot walks from his plane 5:00. A pilot is indecisive as he lands his plane 5:20. Man and woman sit in a bar and order drinks 5:40. Pilot leaves his car and enters the hangar after having drinks and he takes off in poor weather 6:21. Piper J-3 Cub is covered in snow 6:30. Men dig out the airplane from the snowbank 6:48. Plane takes off with skis over the snow 7:05. Clouds roll in 7:30. Man tracks a route on a map 7:38. Aviation Forecast book is consulted 8:03. Pilot number one takes off in questionable weather in his Beechcraft Bonanza 8:25. Pilot number two plans a flight to Kentucky 8:47. Pilot number one encounters rain squalls 9:22. The Weather Bureau reports that a squall line is building across the area and visibility is becoming restricted 9:45. Communications directors contact the pilots 10:00. Pilot is approaching whether that is below VFR regulations and he is not instrument rated 10:11. The clouds darken 10:21. Pilot number two sees a hole through the clouds and tries to go over the top of the clouds 10:34. Squalls are developing to the right of pilot number one 11:00. Pilot number one is not instrument rated and decides to land his plane 11:32. Communications experts mark weather patterns on a map 12:00. A squall line is marked on the map 12:14. Holes in the clouds disappear rapidly 12:30. Pilot number one lands in Louisville and squeezes and ahead of the storm 12:49. Pilot number two is on top of the storm 13:10. He is looking for a hole to go down through 13:20. Pilot number two makes his decision to go down through a hole and picks up ice on his windshield – a dangerous situation 13:52. Pilot number two is in danger as he is not instrument rated. Dark clouds loom on the horizon. A plane is safely on the ground. The End. Aviation Safety Film.

General Authority of Civil Aviation
The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia (GACA, Arabic: الهيئة العامة للطيران المدني) is the national institution of Saudi Arabia in charge of aviation and related matters, headquartered in central Jeddah.
GACA emerged from the former Presidency of Civil Aviation (PCA, مصلحة الطيران المدني) that was created when the institution controlling aviation was split into a civil department and the Royal Saudi Air Force. The Presidency of Civil Aviation was among others also in charge of the Saudi Arabian Airlines and the Meteorology Department. The Saudi Arabian Airlines was split from the Presidency of Civil Aviation in 1960 and became an independent public institution in 1963. The Meteorology Department became an independent institution with own budget in 1966. The name of the Presidency of Civil Aviation was changed to General Authority of Civil Aviation in 1977.
The former president of GACA is Faisal Hamad AlSugair. Its current president is Fahd bin Abdullah, brother of Faisal bin Abdullah. Fahd bin Abdullah was appointed to this post in November 2011.
