"Gee", released in June 1953 by The Crows, is a song which has been credited as the first rock and roll hit by a rock and roll group. It is a doo-wop song, written by William Davis and Viola Watkins, and recorded by the Crows on the independent label, Rama Records, at Beltone Studios in New York City in February 1953. It charted in April 1954, one year later. It took a year to get recognized on Your Hit Parade. It landed No.2 on the rhythm and blues chart and No. 14 on the pop chart. It was the first 1950s doo-wop record to sell over one million records. Recorded on an independent label, it was one of the first such R&B records to crossover to the wider pop market.
Song
The song starts with a few bars of nonsense:
followed by the lead vocal;
then the group:
The vocals are infectiously upbeat with wonderful harmonies and use of nonsense syllables, sounding like enthusiastic street-corner singing. The modified jump blues instrumental backup, with its infectious melody and Charlie Christian- like guitar solo, is the perfect accompaniment.
The Crows were an AmericanR & B singing group who achieved commercial success in the 1950s. The group's first single and only major hit, "Gee", released in June 1953, has been credited with being the first Rock n’ Roll hit by a rock and roll group. It peaked at position #14 and #2, respectively, on the Billboard magazinepop and rhythm-and-bluescharts in 1954.
History
When The Crows started out in 1951, practicing sidewalk harmonies, the original members were Daniel "Sonny" Norton (lead), William "Bill" Davis (baritone), Harold Major (tenor), Jerry Wittick (tenor), and Gerald Hamilton (bass). In 1952, Wittick left the group and was replaced by Mark Jackson (tenor and guitarist).
They were discovered at Apollo Theater's Wednesday night talent show by talent agent Cliff Martinez and brought to independent producer George Goldner who had just set up the tiny new Rama Records label.
The Crows were the first group signed and the first to record. The first songs they recorded were as backup to singer Viola Watkins. The song "Gee" was the third song recorded during their first recording session, on February 10, 1953. It was put together in a few minutes by group member William Davis, with Watkins also being credited as cowriter.
Crows is the seventh studio album by singer/songwriter Allison Moorer. It is her first for new label Rykodisc and sees her reunited with producer R.S. Field for the first time since 2004's The Duel. Moorer wrote 12 of the 13 songs on the album while she was between labels and expecting her first child. Featuring a more intimate sound and recorded in four days in September 2009 with no overdubs, the album earned plenty of acclaim with Slant Magazine writing: "Moorer's performance here is arguably a career best. As a fully realized, heady concept that is all but flawless in its execution, Crows joins Hardest and Duel as the third unqualified masterpiece of Moorer's rich career" while AllMusic wrote that "Crows is a mature and artful set of keenly intelligent pop tunes from a singer and songwriter determined to avoid easy categorization."
The CROWS is composed of two parts: the mount which is fixed to the exterior of the vehicle and the control group.
The mount is capable of 360-degree rotation and −20 to +60-degree elevation and is gyro-stabilized. It is capable of mounting a variety of crew-served weapons, to include the M2 .50-cal Machine Gun, the Mk19 40-mm Automatic Grenade Machine Gun, the M240B 7.62 mm Machine Gun and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. The sight package includes a daylight video camera, a thermal camera and an eye-safe laser rangefinder. It is also furnished with a fully integrated fire control system that provides ballistic correction. The weight of the weapon station varies accordingly due to different armament modules: 74kg (163lb) light, 135kg (298lb) standard (including the naval version), and 172kg (379lb) for CROWS II.
"Gee" is a Korean song by South Koreangirl groupGirls' Generation, released as the lead single from their first EPGee on January 5, 2009. It eventually set a record for being number one on KBS's music show Music Bank for nine consecutive weeks. The music video for "Gee" has been viewed more than 150 million times on YouTube. A Japanese version of the song was later released on October 20, 2010.
Background and release
"Gee" is a fast-tempo song about a girl who has fallen in love for the first time. The title is supposed to be an exclamation of surprise, an expression similar to “Oh my gosh”, or more similarly, "Gee!" in English. The song "Dancing Queen", from their later released 2013 album I Got a Boy, was scrapped due to copyright issues and "Gee" was chosen instead. Girls' Generation had their first promotional activity for the song on the MBC's music show Music Core on January 10. "Gee" eventually became a hit, achieving nine consecutive number one wins on the KBS's Music Bank, and eight consecutive wins on the Mnet 's chart, setting a record at the time. It was named as the "Song of the decade" by South Korea's online music website, MelOn, and chosen to be the most popular song of 2009 on Music Bank. The song has also won several major awards such as "Digital Daesang" and "Digital Bonsang" at the 2009 Golden Disk Awards, "Daesang" and "Digital Music" awards at the 19th Seoul Music Awards, and "Song of the Year" at the 7th Korean Music Awards.
SM Entertainment stated that over 100,000 copies of the mini-album were shipped to stores while sales analyst company Hanteo reported sales in excess of 30,000 copies within the first 10 days of its release. According to their agency SM Entertainment, the album sold nearly 65,000 copies. Gee was able to sold more than 100,000 copies.
Single
A week after its release, "Gee" went #1 on Music Bank; however, questions were raised when the group did not appear on the program for unknown reasons, with rumors spreading regarding a possible rift between SM Entertainment and KBS. "Gee" also went to #1 on SBS's 인기가요 (Inkigayo) a week after their return.
"Gee" first tied with "Nobody" by the Wonder Girls for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.Net (6 weeks). The song then broke the record by staying on top a seventh week, and remained in the position for an eighth week. It also tied then broke the record for longest-running #1 on KBS's Music Bank, beating the 7-week record previously set by Jewelry in 2008 with "One More Time". "Gee" achieved its ninth #1 on the show on March 13, 2009 and received its 10th #1 win on June 26, 2009.
A song is a single (and often standalone) work of music intended to be sung by the human voice with distinct and fixed pitches and patterns using sound and silence and a variety of forms that often include the repetition of sections. Written words created specifically for music or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in classical music it is an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs in a simple style that are learned informally are often referred to as folk songs. Songs that are composed for professional singers are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are often composed by professional songwriters, composers and lyricists. Art songs are composed by trained classical composers for concert performances. Songs are performed live and recorded. Songs may also appear in plays, musical theatre, stage shows of any form, and within operas.

Song
The song starts with a few bars of nonsense:
followed by the lead vocal;
then the group:
The vocals are infectiously upbeat with wonderful harmonies and use of nonsense syllables, sounding like enthusiastic street-corner singing. The modified jump blues instrumental backup, with its infectious melody and Charlie Christian- like guitar solo, is the perfect accompaniment.
