Gedalia Gal (Hebrew:גדליה גל, born 14 February 1933) is an Israeli farmer and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment and Labor Party from 1988 until 1996.
Biography
Born in Magdiel during the Mandate era, Gal attended a professional high school and went on to work in agriculture, including emissary work for the Moshavim Movement.
In 1988 he was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment list. In 1992 he was heavily involved in what became known as the "Gal law", which dealt with moshavim's debts. He was re-elected in 1992, by which time the Alignment had been disscolved and merged into the Labor Party. During his second term he chaired the influential Finance Committee and was involved in the 1996 Electricity Law. He was involved in the Third Way movement, but did not join when it became an official party, preferring to remain in the Labor Party. However, he lost his seat in the 1996 elections.
Menachem Penner and Gedalia Robinson: A Child's Orientation [Divergence 3/4]
In this episode of the 18Forty Podcast, originally aired in March 2021, we talk to Rabbi Menachem Penner—dean of RIETS at Yeshiva University—and his son Gedalia—a musician, cantor-in-training, and member of the LGBTQ community—about their experience in reconciling their family’s religious tradition with Gedalia’s sexual orientation.
When Gedalia realized he was gay as a young teenager, his parents weren’t sure how best to deal with the information. They initially attempted conversion therapy, now known to be ineffective at best and harmful at worst. They have since come to a happier, closer place in their relationship, characterized by love and mutual respect – but the road to this happy ending was long and indirect.

LGBTQ in the Orthodox Community
My response to a question posed to our panel about LGBTQ men and women in the Orthodox community. (For the responses of the other panelists to this issue and other topics raised during the program see http://www.jhcauction.com)
When this was first posted on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/yakov.horowitz/posts/1237981393000531, it got 9,000 views in a few days, and I got lots of feedback from LGBT Jews thanking me for my comments, and several individuals wrote searing emails describing what it’s like to walk many miles in their shoes.
I'm posting it here on YouTube so people who don't use Facebook can have access to it.
This is a very complex and sensitive subject and I ask readers to be respectful and measured in your comments.
