Guamá (died c. 1532) was a Taíno rebel chief who led a rebellion against Spanish rule in Cuba in the 1530s. Legend states that Guamá was first warned about the Spanish conquistador by Hatuey, a Taíno cacique from what is now Haiti.
Biography
After the death of Spanish governor Diego de Velázquez (circa 1460-1524), Guamá led a series of bloody indigenous uprisings against the Spanish that lasted for roughly 10 years. By 1530 Guamá had about fifty warriors and continued to recruit more pacified yndios. The rebellion mainly occurred in the extensive forests of the area of Çagua, near Baracoa in the easternmost area of Cuba, but also farther south and west in the Sierra Maestra.
Archaeologists and forensic pathologists believe that a body found in the Cuban mountains in February 2003 is indeed that of the legendary rebel chief Guamá.
According to the testimony of a captive Indian taken by the Spanish during the rebellion, Guamá was murdered by his brother Oliguama, who buried an axe in his forehead while he slept, in 1532. According to oral tradition Oliguama, also spelled Holguoma killed Guamá because of a sexual relationship between Guamá and Oliguama's wife.
GUAM's charter was signed during a summit in Yalta on 6 to 7 June 2001 by the four current members and Uzbekistan, which later withdrew. According to the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko the charter set objectives for cooperation, such as promoting democratic values, ensuring stable development, enhancing international and regional security and stepping up European integration. Moldova's 2000 elections were won by the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova who subsequently realigned their foreign policy towards Europe shortly before the parliamentary election held in March 2005.
In June 2007, GUAM nations agreed to form a 500-personnel joint peacekeeping force to battle separatism.

He stressed that it was necessary to join efforts on the resolution of the conflicts existing in the space of the GUAM countries, counter challenges and threats faced by all countries of the world.
The Secretary General also noted that GUAM as a regional organization has a political platform, and within the framework of the organization, all the member countries should speak with a unified voice on many issues, especially countering aggression and facts of the occupation of the member states` territories by other countries.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov touched upon GUAM`s role in joining efforts on the issue of the resolution of the conflicts in the space of the organization`s member states.
Along with representatives of the organization`s member states – Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, members of the Baltic Assembly, the participating countries of the Visegrad Group and TurkPA also took part in the session.
“We consider our duty to help our friends from Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova in their efforts. Every country of GUAM has chosen its own way of development, and we take that into account; we share our own experience. However, that exchange is mutual, as we have something to learn from GUAM states as well,” President of the Baltic Assembly Janis Vucans said.

ASEAN (or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) comprises 10 significant Southeast Asian nations, including Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The union has been relatively hands-off historically - but with one of their members, Myanmar, becoming increasingly controversial people are beginning to ask if ASEAN will step up and become a fully-fledged 'European Union' of Asia.

The ninth session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM wrapped up in Baku on Thursday.
During the session, it was highlighted that the GUAM`s authority grows year by year, and more and more countries and international organizations express interest in the cooperation with the organization.
Addressing the session, GUAM Secretary General Altay Efendiyev defined the priorities for the next year.
