The term Full Frame is used by D-SLR users as a short-hand for an image sensor which is the same size as 35mm format (36 mm × 24 mm) film.
Historically, 35mm was considered a small film format compared with medium format, large format and even larger. This is in contrast to cameras with smaller sensors (for instance, those with a size equivalent to APS-C-size film), much smaller than a full 35mm frame. Currently, the majority of digital cameras, both compact and SLR models, use a smaller-than-35mm frame, as it is easier and cheaper to manufacture imaging sensors at a smaller size. Historically, the earliest digital SLR models, such as the Nikon NASA F4 or Kodak DCS 100, also used a smaller sensor. Kodak states that 35mm film has the equivalent of 6,000 pixel horizontal resolution according to a Senior Vice President of IMAX.
Use of 35mm film-camera lenses
If the lens mounts are compatible, many lenses, including manual-focus models, designed for 35mm cameras can be mounted on DSLR cameras. When a lens designed for a full-frame camera, whether film or digital, is mounted on a DSLR with a smaller sensor size, only the center of the lens's image circle is captured. The edges are cropped off, which is equivalent to zooming in on the center section of the imaging area. The ratio of the size of the full-frame 35mm format to the size of the smaller format is known as the "crop factor" or "focal-length multiplier", and is typically in the range 1.3–2.0 for non-full-frame digital SLRs.
A digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras. In the reflex design, light travels through the lens, then to a mirror that alternates to send the image to either the viewfinder or the image sensor. The alternative would be to have a viewfinder with its own lens, hence the term "single lens" for this design. By using only one lens, the viewfinder of a DSLR presents an image that will not perceptibly differ from what is captured by the camera's sensor.
DSLRs largely replaced film-based SLRs during the 2000s, and despite the rising popularity of mirrorless system cameras in the early 2010s, DSLRs remained the most common type of interchangeable lens camera in use as of 2014.
In cinematography, full frame refers to the use of the full film gate at maximum width and height for 35 mm filmcameras. It is sometimes also referred to as silent aperture, full gate, or a number of other similar word combinations. It is the original gate size pioneered by William Dickson and Thomas Edison in 1892 and first used in the short film Blacksmithing Scene. Full frame is generally used by all 4-perf films, whether silent, standard 35 (Academy ratio width), or Super 35. The introduction of Academy ratio in 1932 required that the lens mount needed to be shifted slightly horizontally to re-center the lens at the new center of frame; however, the gate size did not change as the extra negative information would be cropped out by lab processes in post-production. 4-perf Super 35 is nearly identical to the original full frame standard, although the lens mount requires vertical re-centering when common topline extraction is used. It should also be noted that hard mattes for all common ratios exist and either replace the film gate itself or are inserted within it. However, these are usually not used in the event that any reframing needs to be done.

The same lens produces different results on cameras with different sized sensors. As a result, it can be tough to cross-shop Micro Four-Thirds, APS-C, Full Frame, and Medium Format cameras.
Crop Factor is a conversion that makes it simple to determine the exact results you'll get with any given lens, regardless of your camera's sensor size. By multiplying your camera's crop factor by a lens' focal length AND aperture, you can determine the full-frame equivalent angle of view, depth-of-field (background blur) and a good estimate of the low-light noise.

Sony did not pay us to make this video and did not require us to make any content from this trip. Coincidentally we were planning on making this video anyway and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do so since the a6400 is a crop body! All thoughts on the A6400 are our own.

DSLR Cameras
http://bhpho.to/DSLRCameras
Here are common crop factors:
1X: Full-frame cameras like the Nikon D610, D750, D850, D5, Canon 6D, 5D, and 1D, Sony a7, a9, Pentax K1
1.5X: APS-C cameras like the Nikon D7200, D5300, D3400, Sony a6500, and Fuji X-T3
1.6X: Canon APS-C cameras like the Canon 7D, 80D, 77D
2X: Micro four-thirds (M43) cameras like the Panasonic GH5, G9, and Olympus E-M1, E-M5, and E-M10

Sony did not pay us to make this video and did not require us to make any content from this trip. Coincidentally we were planning on making this video anyway and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do so since the a6400 is a crop body! All thoughts on the A6400 are our own.
