The wider constituency was formed from an expansion of the narrow parliamentary borough (or simply borough) of the same name that existed from 1295 to 1918. This had elected two MPs from 1295 (the Model Parliament) until 1885, and then one until 1918. Since 1918 it has consistently elected candidates of the Conservative Party.
Boundaries

1950-1983: The County Borough of Canterbury, the Urban Districts of Herne Bay and Whitstable, and the Rural District of Bridge Blean.

The Canterbury, or Canterbury Merchant, is the ship that transported William Penn and James Logan from England to Philadelphia in 1699. The Canterbury set sail from the Isle of Wight on September 3, 1699, reaching Philadelphia on December 3, 1699. The captain of the Canterbury is recorded as either "Henry Tregeny" or "Hen. Weagene". During the voyage the Canterbury reportedly survived an attack by pirates.
Passengers
The passenger list, even if one was recorded, is not extant. Therefore, alternative sources have been used to reconstruct the list of passengers and crew.
Confirmed:
William Penn,Hannah Penn (second wife of William Penn) and Letitia Penn (daughter of William Penn by his first wife)
James Logan, secretary to William Penn
Henry Tregeny or Henry Weagene
William Penn,Hannah Penn (second wife of William Penn) and Letitia Penn (daughter of William Penn by his first wife)
Canterbury were an Englishrock band, formed in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in 2005. The band consisted of guitarist and vocalist Mike Sparks, bassist and vocalist Luke Prebble, guitarist James Pipe and drummer Chris Velissarides.
History
Formation (2005–2008)
Canterbury was founded in 2005, by Ben Bishop, James Pipe and Luke Prebble, who all attended the same college(Lord Wandsworth College in Hook, Hampshire). They were later joined by Mike Sparks after leaving his previous band and the line up was completed by fellow Music Tech class mate Scott Peters in early 2007. They spent their remaining few years of education writing songs for what would eventually become their first album four years later in 2009. After leaving college they began to take the band more seriously, touring all around the United Kingdom and promoting themselves through social-media formats, including Facebook and MySpace.
After leaving college, they began touring relentlessly for the next four years playing hundreds of shows around the UK and Ireland. Starting off in opening slots for anyone who would have them, they progressed to slots on much higher-profile UK-wide tours with groups including The Automatic,Enter Shikari, Against Me, Twin Atlantic, You Me At Six and We Are The Ocean.
Marks and Spencer plc (also known as M&S) is a major British multinational retailer headquartered in the City of Westminster, London. It specialises in the selling of clothing, home products and luxury food products. M&S was founded in 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in Leeds.
In 1998, the company became the first British retailer to make a pre-tax profit of over £1billion, although subsequently it went into a sudden slump, which took the company, its shareholders, who included hundreds of thousands of small investors, and nearly all retail analysts and business journalists, by surprise. In November 2009, it was announced that Marc Bolland, formerly of Morrisons, would take over as chief executive from executive chairman Stuart Rose in early 2010; Rose remained in the role of non-executive chairman until he was replaced by Robert Swannell in January 2011.
The company was founded by a partnership between Michael Marks, a Polish Jew from Słonim (Marks was born into a Polish-Jewish family, a Polish refugee living in the Russian Empire, now in Belarus), and Thomas Spencer, a cashier from the English market town of Skipton in North Yorkshire. On his arrival in England, Marks worked for a company in Leeds, called Barran, which employed refugees (see Sir John Barran, 1st Baronet). In 1884 he met Isaac Jowitt Dewhirst while looking for work. Dewhirst lent Marks £5 which he used to establish his Penny Bazaar on Kirkgate Market, in Leeds. Dewhirst also taught him a little English. Dewhirst's cashier was Tom Spencer, an excellent bookkeeper, whose lively and intelligent second wife, Agnes, helped improve Marks' English. In 1894, when Marks acquired a permanent stall in Leeds' covered market, he invited Spencer to become his partner.
The biggest upset of election night came in Canterbury. It has been Conservative for 99 years - its former MP had a majority of nearly 10 thousand.
All that was swept away by a Labour surge. It is another city with a large population of students - but it wasn't just Labour's promise of scrapping tuition fees that won the day.

The historic English town in the heart of Kent has always been a Tory stronghold - but Sunday's vote saw incumbent Sir Julian Brazier lose to Rosie Duffield by just 187 votes.
Increased student participation in the election is being seen as a key factor in the shock result
"I was very excited actually. Very surprised", said Nicholas Hubble, a 19-year-old Labour voter who traveled down from Exeter where he studied to vote back home.
With tens of thousands of European nationals visiting, studying or living in the city, 23-year-old George Dabaasio also believes Brexit played a big role.

Policing and the Prevention of Violence Against Women - Home Secretary Priti Patel - 15 March 2021
Priti Patel MP, Secretary of State for the Home Department, will update the House of Commons on Policing and the Prevention of Violence Against Women.
Ministerial statements are a way for Ministers to bring an important matter to the attention of the House, often at short notice. Government Ministers may make oral statements to Parliament which usually address major incidents, government policies or actions. These take place after Oral Questions and any granted Urgent Questions. After making a statement the Minister responds to questions on its topic from MPs. An hour is allocated for this. Commons statements will sometimes be repeated in the Lords at an appropriate time to fit in with the main business.

ITV Election Debate - Key moments
Labour’s plan to launch a tax raid on private schools is “crazy” and will drive more children into the state sector, Penny Mordaunt warned on Thursday.
During the seven-party debate hosted by ITV newsreader Julie Etchingham, the Leader of the Commons said Sir Keir Starmer’s proposal “doesn’t serve anyone” and is “the kind of dogma we need to keep out of the public sector”.
Addressing Angela Rayner during the event, she said: “What Angela and the Labour Party are going to do is, unbelievably, they are going to tax education”.

With tens of thousands of European nationals visiting, studying or living in the city, 23-year-old George Dabaasio also believes Brexit played a big role.
During the 2016 EU referendum, Canterbury voted to leave the EU by 51 percent but many young people didn't turn up to vote.
With students and staff from about 150 different countries, Edwards Morgan-Jones a Senior Lecturer at Kent University believes people were "very worried about the effect of the government's approach of Brexit on the university".
But to some extent, it also comes down to the numbers.
"We had 10 percent more voters than in 2015 and those voters were mainly younger voters", he said.
The reason for this surge can partly be attributed to university unions who went out and actively encourages students to register to vote.
For first year political science student, Toby French, what inspired him was the way the Labour party reached out to youth using popular platforms.
But for Tory voters, the defeat was a devastating blow. 67-year-old Sheryl Barker says she's angry at the students and the universities who she believes influenced them.

The UK General Election in 2024 uses the new electoral boundaries. Only 65 of the 650 seats are staying the same. Some seats are new, while some are abolished. In these videos we look at why boundaries are changing, a summary of the new constituency including demographics and geography, how the population of the new constituency is formed from the old seats. Then we get into the politics. We present the results for each of the constituencies in 2019, then look at the trends for the main seat that is being replaced. For the main seat, we look who won, who came second, and the majority. We look at the graph of the vote share for the last 4 elections. Then we list the final list of candidates and make a prediction for the 2024 winner based on predictions using an optimistic scenario and a bad day for the Conservatives.
