George Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on 25 June 1963 in the UK. His dad, Kyriacos Panayiotou, was a Greek Cypriot restaurateur and his mum, Lesley Angold Harrison, was an English dancer.
In his early years, George would busk on the London Underground, performing songs such as "'39" by Queen.

How To Increase Vocal Range - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
I don't know of a vocalist or an aspiring singer who is not looking to increase their vocal range.
In fact, most singers sing at the very top of the range and wish that they could gain even just one or two more notes.
And oftentimes, they cannot understand why some days they can sing some songs and other days they can't.
In this video, I demonstrate that anyone that understands and follows through with the technique that I teach, can absolutely put a substantial amount of range onto their voice.

"No More Night" is a perfect song to showcase David Phelps' incredible range. Phelps, an American tenor, is credited among today's most spectacular voices. Vocal Coach Reaction to Marc Martel - Freddie Mercury - Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - Ken Tamplin
Vocal Coach Ken Tamplin Reacts to Marc Martel's fantastic LIVE In One Take performance of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY!
Usually when I hear a singer imitate another singer, it sounds cheesy to me and disingenuous.
Karaoke meets bad Las Vegas act or something.
HOWEVER:
In Marc Martel's case, it's amazing.
He sounds just like Freddie (in a great way), has killer tone, pitch, phrasing, range... you name it!
I personally like his version of Queen songs above Adam Lambert.
I am glad they chose Marc to sing the Freddie Mercury parts to the recent Bohemian Rhapsody movie.
Marc did a stellar job.
So I chose to do a vocal coach reacts to Marc Martel!

Vocal Coach Reacts to Adam Lambert's Best Live Vocals -Ken Tamplin
Adam Lambert is one of those singers who makes me want to sing. His talent truly is next level.
Lambert’s been singing and performing publicly since the age of 9 where he got his start with the Metropolitan Educational Theatre.
As he got older he received more intense vocal training and performed with the Broadway Bound Youth Theatre Foundation.
We all know Adam from his appearance on American Idol where he ironically finished eighth.
After the show he released his debut album which debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and his second album debuted at number one.
In only 10 short years he has sold over 3 million albums and 5 million singles worldwide.
In addition to his successful solo career, he has collaborated with rock band Queen as the lead vocalist for Queen + Adam Lamb...

"Belting" is not a form of just "shouting" a few lines thinking you can "muscle" your way through to sustain a belted song (or 2).
Real "Belting" is understanding how to pace abdominal strength, a relaxation response, correct breath control and great open throat technique.
In this video I share with you this very important concept. Learn to increase breath support with KTVA singing methods. Not just quick tips that don't work. Get real, solid information from KTVA!

How To ROCK Your Chest Voice! - How To Belt - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
How To ROCK Your CHEST VOICE! - How To Belt - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
Much of today's singing has moved away from big powerful vocals.
Instead, an emphasis is placed on singing lightly, airy and a reliance on falsetto.
This is partly because of a shift in styles of singing over the past
50 years, and partly because people have been sold the idea that singing lighter will "save" your voice.
This couldn't be further from the truth.
If you "pamper" a muscle in your body (which is precisely what the voice is, a group of muscles), it will atrophy (shrink and get weak) over time.
We must think of the voice like building a house.
We first lay down a strong foundation for our voices (starting with our chest voice) and then start "adding rooms" to our house over time.
The way to do this ...

Gabby Barrett sings “Don't Stop Believing" Steve Perry in Audience American Idol 2018 Finale Top 3
Former Journey lead singer Steve Perry gave one American Idol contestant the surprise of a lifetime this weekend after her performance of the band’s hit “Don’t Stop Believin'”.
Perry was in the audience during Gabby Barrett’s final performance on Sunday night’s episode, although Barrett wasn’t aware of it until after she finished the song.
“Oh my gosh, I know who that is,” screamed Barrett as Perry laughed from the audience.
“She was amazing, that’s my critique,” said Perry when invited by the show’s judges to give his opinion. He also claimed it was “the most amazing version” he’s ever heard.

In his early years, George would busk on the London Underground, performing songs such as "'39" by Queen.
His involvement in the music business began with his working as a DJ, playing at clubs and local schools around Bushey, Stanmore, and Watford UK.
He met Andrew Ridgeley at school when Ridgeley volunteered to tutor him and in 1981 they launched Wham! The band's first album Fantastic reached No. 1 in the UK in 1983 and produced a series of top 10 singles including "Young Guns", "Wham Rap!" and "Club Tropicana".
Their second album, Make It Big, reached No. 1 on the charts in the US. Singles from that album included "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"
(No. 1 in the UK and US), "Freedom", "Everything She Wants", and "Careless Whisper" which reached No. 1 in nearly 25 countries, including the UK and US, and was Michael's first solo effort as a single.
George Michael sang on the original Band Aid recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (which became the UK Christmas number one) and donated the profits from "Last Christmas/Everything She Wants" to charity.
He also contributed background vocals to David Cassidy's 1985 hit "The Last Kiss", as well as Elton John's 1985 successes "Nikita" and "Wrap Her Up". Michael cited Cassidy as a major career influence and interviewed Cassidy for David Litchfield's Ritz Newspaper.
George Michael kicked off his solo career in 1987 with the Aretha Franklin duet "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" . The song co-written with Simon Climie of Climie Fisher shot to number 1 in the UK and USA and bagged him a Grammy Award in 1988 for Best R&B Performance
In late 1987, Michael released his debut solo album, Faith. In addition to playing a large number of instruments on the album, he wrote and produced every track on the recording, except for one, which he co-wrote.
Faith had many successes, with four singles ("Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try", and "Monkey" and others) reaching No. 1 in the US.
In February 1989, Faith won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year at the 31st Grammy Awards. At the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards on 6 September in Los Angeles, Michael received the Video Vanguard Award.
According to Michael in his film, A Different Story, success did not make him happy and he started to think there was something wrong in being an idol for millions of teenage girls. The whole Faith process (promotion, videos, tour, awards) left him exhausted, lonely and frustrated, and far from his friends and family.
"Freedom '90" was the second of only two of its singles to be supported by a music video (the other being the Michael-less "Praying for Time"). The song alludes to his struggles with his artistic and personal identity, and prophesied his efforts shortly thereafter to end his recording contract with Sony Music
As if to prove the song's sentiment, Michael refused to appear in the video (directed by David Fincher), and instead recruited supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, and Cindy Crawford to appear in and lip sync in his stead. It also featured the reduction of his sex symbol status.
George went on to perform and receive countless awards and tributes, but in the end, I find it interesting that someone on top of the world, George Michael had questions about "faith, hope, love and his reason for being."
For this reason I chose Freedom '90.
I hope you can appreciate such great artistry and self evaluation of George Michael.

In addition to his successful solo career, he has collaborated with rock band Queen as the lead vocalist for Queen + Adam Lambert where they have toured worldwide.
Today I’ll be reacting to a compilation of his Best Live Vocals. I hope you enjoy the performances and let me know how you thought he did.

Hey guys, welcome back again to Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, where the PROOF is in the singing! I'm continuing my series on songs and artists that have inspired me, in hopes to be able to inspire you, and I've chosen a group called The Hollies, and the song is called Long Cool Woman. We'll do it first, we'll talk about it after, like we always do. Let's Rock!
Okay. So, the goal for this is not so much to teach all the technicalities, and I do that in my course. I have a singing course called How To Sing Better Than Anyone Else. The idea is that we're taking some of these timeless classic pieces that you may or may not have ever heard before, but they certainly are icon and sort of epic standards where they've set the bar for certain pieces and kinds and styles of music, and it's a great way to grade your self to see how you're doing in the course or how you're doing with your own singing to see how you stack up to some of the originals. So, I challenge you to go back to the originals, listen to those, it's called Long Cool Woman, it's by the band called The Hollies, and see how I stacked up to this song. In fact do that to all of my stuff, because you might be pleasantly surprised at, you know, kind of what I'm showing you guys, and then do yourself a favor. Sing a cover yourself, or what ever, and see how you stack up and how you set the bar for yourself. Do you exceed it, or do you almost hit it? Because it's a good barometer to tell how you're really doing rather than kind of deceiving yourself and thinking I'm doing great or terrible or whatever that is so…
Okay, I wanted to add an addendum to this "How to Belt" song and series, because I'm going to do a few of these and that is this: It's one thing to be able to just shout, or belt, or yell out a few lines in a song, and people can refer to that and call that quality belting, and that in fact is absolutely not the case. What I'm about to tell you is imperative that you really understand the process of this. The first thing is strength in the abdomen, and doing enough strength training in the abdomen, so that you can relax the chest, the neck, and the throat. I cover all of this in my singing course. The second thing is to understand how much breath control to use, and how to manage that breath control. The third thing is, especially with a lot of these smaller phrases, instead of taking large breaths like (demonstrates) , you take short breaths (demonstrates). In order to be able to have quick strength in the sound without having these gargantuan, big movements in the abdomen, so we can keep our, I call it the Porsche of singing, our moves really small. And last as we strength train to these things, what we do is we actually strength train scales and whatnot, that are within the range of the songs that we're planning on singing, so that we can maintain a level of that, and kind of govern the sound, so were not just killing it constantly, but we can actually have and manage total control of the sound. Now we do this with different vowels and vowel modifications, and I cover this again in my course, but I wanted to emphasize the importance first of the strength training of the core first, to build up stamina, so that you will not develop strain in the chest, neck, and throat. The amount of controlling the breath, or air, open throat technique, keeping the throat open so that you don't regurgitate in the back of the throat, and how the consonants constantly closing down the back of the throat, to give you freedom in the vowels themselves. And then the vowel modifications that you've strength trained through good quality scale training. Okay? So, that's it! I hope you guys enjoyed it! God bless, and we've got more coming your way

The way to do this isn't by "pampering, favoring or wimping out" our chest voice, but instead to BUILD it!
Now I think it's important to understand what Chest Voice is.
In Bel Canto/Appoggio (opera), the term "Chest Voice" is defined as any part of the voice that "resonates" in the area of your chest.
This is true for Bel Canto/Appoggio's definition of "Head Voice" as well (anything that resonates in your head).
While that may sound like a reasonable explanation, I believe these definitions illusive and ambiguous (hard to understand and identify).
I have redefined these terms to be easily understood and recognized.
I want you to think of your chest voice as your "Call" register. This can extend from the level / register you speak, all the way to "calling out" to someone from afar.
Within this "Call Register" (also known as a "Broadway Belt," where we get the term "Belting"), there is a "shifting" (so to speak) from our speaking voice into this Call / Belting register.
This area is called "Primo Passaggio" or "The First Passageway."
The goal, is to safely "shift gears" from our speaking register into our call/belting register.
So think of your voice like a finely tuned car engine with various gears to get you to various speeds and "torque" of your engine.
Once you learn how to control this engine, you can keep your voice strong and sing in many styles safely with amazing freedom.
In my video, I walk you through, step by step what it takes to do this.
I also have a singing course called "How To Sing Better Than Anyone Else" for those interested in taking their studies further.
