Frank Boggs Wright, Jr. (18 November 1912 – 21 February 2008) was an American commercial artist whose career extended from the mid-1930s to the late 1990s. A native of Madison Heights, Virginia, he was perhaps best known for designing the ChapStick logo (circa 1936). A longtime resident of Lynchburg, Virginia he produced many logotypes and designs familiar to the area, including the current and two past City of Lynchburg logos and the Lynchburg Community Market banner. From 1944 through 1997, Wright's firm, Wright and Williams Studio (later Frank Wright Studio), produced a prodigious amount of commercial art work for local and national businesses, most notably the Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation, Lane Furniture Company, and First Colony Life Insurance Company.
Wright studied at Lynchburg College and the Phoenix Art Institute (later the New York—Phoenix School of Design) in New York City. He was married for 62 years to Julia Alberta Hughes of Lynchburg and had four sons. He is buried in Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Wright was born in Grenada, Mississippi, but he grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where his family moved as part of the Great Migration out of the South. More than 1.5 million African Americans left the South before World War II to seek opportunities in the industrial cities of the North and Midwest. Another 5.5 million left during and after the war, up to 1970.
In Cleveland, Wright met Bobby Few and Albert Ayler, both of whom became friends and musical influences. Originally a bass player, Wright played in numerous local R&B bands before taking up the saxophone. He also toured with B. B. King and Bobby "Blue" Bland. Ayler's musical influence persuaded Wright to switch to saxophone; his style is often associated with Ayler's. In addition to tenor saxophone, he also played the soprano saxophone and bass clarinet. A pioneer of experimental music, Wright is a widely acclaimed artist among his colleagues in the free jazz movement.
Frank Wright (4 May 1870 — 9 December 1943) was an Englishcricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1899.
Wright was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He was also identified as "Francis Moult Wright". Wright played just one first-class cricket match for Derbyshire during the 1899 season, against Surrey. He was a right-handed batsman and scored four runs in the first innings and a duck in the second. He bowled under four overs in the first innings of the match taking no wickets and giving 37 runs. Derbyshire lost the game by a ten-wicket margin.
