Frank Spencer Curtis Budgen (1 March 1882 – 26 April 1971) was an Englishpainter and writer acquainted with the author James Joyce.
Life
Born in Crowhurst, Surrey, Budgen spent six years at sea before working in London as a postal worker. He changed jobs a number of times before travelling to Paris in 1910 to study painting. He supported himself there by working as a model for the Swiss sculptor August Suter (1887-1965) and became acquainted with the French writer Blaise Cendrars and the Swiss poet and translator Siegfried Lang. At the invitation of August Suter he moved to Switzerland shortly before World War I. Here he was employed by the British government at the Ministry of Information, an institution established in Zürich for "the spread of British propaganda in neutral countries." He returned to London after the war, where he remained until his death. Budgen was a member of the Socialist Labour Party and eventually its general secretary. He translated and published the first cheap edition of The Communist Manifesto with Lily G. Aitken. Budgen never lost contact with his Swiss friends and paid several visits to Switzerland to meet August and Paul Suter as well as Siegfried Lang. He was a guest of honour at the first James-Joyce-Symposium in Dublin in 1967.
We've scoured our records and discovered the top ranked agencies, studios and people of the first 50 years of D&AD. Frank Budgen shares the most awarded Director accolade with Tony Kaye.
After leaving Boase Massimi Pollitt advertising agency where he was a copywriter and creative director, Frank Budgen began directing commercials full-time in 1991 through the Paul Weiland Film Co.
He soon established himself as one of the foremost commercials directors in the UK and in 1997 became a partner at Gorgeous.
Frank is the only director in the world to have featured in the Top 20 Gunn Report Director rankings every year since its inception, leading the table outright for three of those years.

Ecco il testo:
For years, I've lived a double life.
In the day, I do my job -- I ride the bus, roll up
my sleeves with the hoi-polloi.
But at night, I live a life of exhilaration, of missed
heartbeats and adrenalin.
And, if the truth be known,
a life of dubious virtue.
I won't deny it -- I've been engaged in violence, even
indulged in it.
I've maimed and killed adversaries, and not merely
in self-defence.
I've exhibited disregard for life, limb and property,
and savoured every moment.
You may not think it,
to look of me, but I have commanded armies, and conquered
worlds.
And though in achieving these things I've set morality
aside,
I have no regrets.
For though I've led a double life, at least I can say
- I've lived.
