Time travelling back to the Middle Ages in France • FRANCE 24 English
In this special history episode of French Connections Plus, we turn the spotlight on what has come to be seen as a dark period: the Middle Ages. What is known as “le Moyen Age” in French covered some 1,000 years, centuries of political upheaval, royal intrigue, wars, disease and famine. But it was also a rich period of artistic and intellectual development when in many ways France took on the shape it has today. So what’s left of this complex chapter of French History? Join Florence Villeminot and Genie Godula as they time travel back to “le Moyen Age”.

The Most Famous Medieval Battles Between England And France | Chronicle
The battles between England and France are among the most famous of the medieval period, including the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the Norman invasion of England, and the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 saw King Harold defeating an invasion from Norway, but shortly after, he faced Duke William of Normandy at the Battle of Hastings. The Battle of Agincourt in 1415 was a significant English victory against the French during the Hundred Years' War, largely attributed to the effectiveness of English archers and strong leadership by King Henry V.

In the Middle Ages, Catharism - a Christian sect accused of heresy – thrived in the heart of the French Pyrenees. Its indelible imprint can still be seen today: perched on a rock some 1,200 metres high sits Montségur castle, where the Cathars lived until they were massacred on the orders of the Pope. A few kilometres away, in the village of Talairan, locals are battling to save the area’s Cathar heritage, including the little chapel of Notre Dame de L’Aire. FRANCE 24 takes you to discover it.

So, today, we're going to teach you the broad outlines of the so-called Middle Ages, and look at events like the Black Plague, the Hundred Years War, and the Western Schism of the Catholic Church that set the stage for the history of modern Europe.

The Entire History of France in 23 Minutes
Attempting to cover the history country of France in just one video! Starting with the tribal Frankish kingdoms, the rivalry with the England and the Habsburgs, the various wars France has fought, the reign of the famous Louis XIV, to the iconic French Revolution and the Napoleon, all the way to the World Wars and road to becoming the French Fifth Republic, the country that France is today.
Obviously I had to cut a LOT out, and oversimplify at times. That's a necessity for a video like this, which has been a very daunting!
This could potentially be the beginning of a new series, so I would love for some feedback on this video, and maybe even your suggestion for a future episode!

Our European history is going to start around 1500 with the Renaissance, but believe it or not, that is not the actual beginning of history in the continent. So, today, we're going to teach you the broad outlines of the so-called Middle Ages, and look at events like the Black Plague, the Hundred Years War, and the Western Schism of the Catholic Church that set the stage for the history of modern Europe.

French Palaces immerses us in the universe of some historical figures such as Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci and Catherine de Medici, but also introduces us to those who continue to keep France’s great chateaus alive today. Historians, curators, caretakers, landscape gardeners, artists and researchers have made these medieval gems their daily work and their passion. They guide us behind the scenes of these magical places to discover paintings, multicolored garden mosaics and priceless furniture.
Nowadays, an extensive cultural program is played out against the backdrop of these mythical chateaus. Contemporary art installations, exhibitions by great photographers, concerts, ephemeral garden displays: all the ingredients are combined to preserve this world cultural heritage.
