Fort William was a pioneer fort in Kentucky established in 1785 by Colonel William Christian and Anne Christian. William Christian directed the defense of what is now Louisville from attacks by the Indians. The fort was in the area of Jefferson County near St. Matthews and Lyndon. Although the historical marker for Fort William is located in front of the Eight Mile House, an early stone house
and tavern, the location of the fort was actually southwest of the Eight Mile House. Fort William was another name for A'Sturgus Station built in 1779 on the Middle fork of Beargrass Creek. After Christian's death in 1786, his wife, Anne, began to refer to the site as Fort William. Anne Christian was a sister of Patrick Henry. The land acquired by the Christians was payment for his service during the Seven Years' War. They moved into the area with children and slaves. After William Christian's death, Anne moved to Mercer County. However, she was ill and traveled to the West Indies in hopes it would improve her health. In 1790, she died either on the return trip from Antigua or the day after arriving in Norfolk, Virginia.
Fort William is a fort in Anomabu, Central Region, Ghana, originally known as Anomabo Fort and renamed Fort William in the nineteenth century by its then-commander, Brodie Cruickshank, who added one storey to the main building in the days of King William IV. It was built in 1753 by the British after they thwarted a French attempt to establish a fort at the same place. Two earlier forts had been established at the same site, one in 1640 by the Dutch, another in 1674 (Fort Charles) by the English. Fort Charles was abandoned in the late-seventeenth century.
History
Earlier forts
In 1640, the Dutch built the first simple fort in the form of stone nog and brick lodge under the direction of Commander, Arent Jacobsz van der Graeff.
In 1653, the Swedes captured the lodge.
In 1657, Danish forces took the lodge under Caerloff.
In 1659 or 1660, the Dutch recaptured it.
When the second Dutch-Anglo war ended in 1667 with the (Treaty of Breda), the British gained a foothold in Anomabo.
In 1672 or 1673, the British began building Fort Charles naming it after King Charles II of England on the present-day location of Fort William. An early Anomabo chief, perhaps Eno or Eno Besi, inhabited the Dutch lodge at this time and declared it his palace.
The fort was abandoned by the British not long after, in order to concentrate efforts and costs on Fort Carolusburg at Cape Coast.

Despite torrential rain throughout the second round of the UCI DH MTB World Cup in the Highlands of Scotland nothing could stop the tens of thousands of spectators from cheering on their favorite downhillers! In true Fort William fashion we saw more than a few tough hits taken by riders like Tahnee Seagrave, Loïc Bruni and Aaron Gwin.
The Women’s finals was what Rachel Atherton called ‘the most nail-biting thing ever’ between her and Australian, Tracey Hannah with Hannah up in spilts 2 & 3. In the end, it was a British victory by just 1.611s.
In the Men’s race, after nearly crashing over the handle bars at the finish it was Commencal rider Amaury Pierron who put down the fastest time of 4m 28.578s. Aussie pinner Troy...

Fort William Team Testing
After a great weekend back at the races at Hamsterley, we headed to Fort William for some big track testing! For days 1 and 2 it was just me and Josh on the track, along with One Vision MTB Gravity School rider Rueben Taylor. Dan Slack joined us from day 3 after his recent trip to France. Elliot was on hand with the tools all weekend and Gareth Dalley on the camera getting great photos for us.
I'm obviously still being very careful with my shoulder and can't afford to be having any crashes, so the aim was to ride smooth and composed all week. This worked out really well... turns out smooth is fast... who knew 😉😆 Josh built his speed throughout the week and brought his time down close to the 5 minute mark and Dan had great pace by the end of his second day.
Next we head to Portugal for a ...

Designed for big travel All Mountain bikes, the trail begins with some fast loose turns and rock drops before switching into some north shore to get you over the marsh. But remember to keep those brakes at the ready because this North Shore is FAST!
As the North Shore ends you quickly descend into what fort William is famous for, Granite slabs. Offering plenty of grip you can rail through rock gardens and berms made out of ancient rock before launching into long, rough rock gardens and rock rolls that wouldn't be out of place in a Downhill track. After what seems like one continuous 5 minute rock garden you are spat out into the woods section for fast turns and jumps before finishing back in at the bottom of the Gondola ready for another run!
This is one to add to your bucket list!

Next we head to Portugal for a 6 day trip which is our final preparation before the world cups start in June!
Hope you enjoy this one guys 🤘😁

Aussie pinner Troy Bosnan took second, securing the leader's jersey, with last man down the mountain, Loris Vergier crossing the line in third.

Have a look at my race run down Fort William last weekend! I had a decent run, conditions were crazy all weekend, so I was glad to get that one out the way with a podium finish and move onto Leogang!
Nothing friendly about the Fort William World Cup Downhill today during the first practice session. Wind, rain and rocks made bikes and riders tremble as they navigating the Scottish course. We spice it up with some bikes and pit chat and Rob Warner makes a special guest appearance. Tahnee Seagrave is shown after she crashed, injuring her shoulder. She will not race.

Motoring from the get-go, Minnaar didn't let the weather slow him down in Fort William. He was clean and fast through the make-or-break woods section and took to the 'Motorway' with a huge advantage. From there the King of Fort William was left to bring it home in style in front of an erupting crowd. Minnaar crossed the line victorious to secure a staggering seventh victory in Scotland. Sit back and feast your eyes on Minnaar's blazing fast winning run, and watch the full event on Red Bull TV!

Last month the GMBN crew took some time away from the Fort William World Cup to ride some EPIC trails. This is the Red Giant trail in Fort William, full of rock slabs, loose turns and North Shore. This was an amazing Epic Ride.

The Red Giant trail is just a few hundred meters from The World Cup Downhill track and is often described as the World Cup track in miniature.

Next we head to Portugal for a 6 day trip which is our final preparation before the world cups start in June!
Hope you enjoy this one guys 🤘😁
