Benjamin Harrison
Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833 – March 13, 1901) was the 23rd President of the United States (1889–93); he was the grandson of the ninth President, William Henry Harrison. Before ascending to the presidency, Harrison established himself as a prominent local attorney, Presbyterian church leader and politician in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the American Civil War, he served the Union as a colonel and on February 14, 1865 was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a brevet brigadier general of volunteers to rank from January 23, 1865. After the war, he unsuccessfully ran for the governorship of Indiana. He was later elected to the U.S. Senate by the Indiana legislature.
A Republican, Harrison was elected to the presidency in 1888, defeating the Democratic incumbent Grover Cleveland. Hallmarks of his administration included unprecedented economic legislation, including the McKinley Tariff, which imposed historic protective trade rates, and the Sherman Antitrust Act; Harrison facilitated the creation of the National Forests through an amendment to the Land Revision Act of 1891. He also substantially strengthened and modernized the Navy, and conducted an active foreign policy. He proposed, in vain, federal education funding as well as voting rights enforcement for African Americans during his administration.

Benjamin Harrison V
Benjamin Harrison V (April 5, 1726 – April 24, 1791), from Charles City County, Virginia, was an American planter and merchant, a revolutionary leader and a Founding Father of the United States. He received his higher education at the College of William and Mary. Harrison was a representative to the Virginia House of Burgesses for Surry County, Virginia (1756–1758, 1785–1786), and Charles City County (1766–1776, 1787–1790). He was a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777 and, during the Second Continental Congress, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Harrison later served as Virginia's fifth governor. His direct descendents include two U.S. Presidents, his son William Henry Harrison and great-grandson Benjamin Harrison.
Family
Harrison was the eldest child of Benjamin Harrison IV and Anne Carter, and a grandson of Robert Carter I. The first Benjamin Harrison is said to have arrived in the colonies around 1630. British historian F. A. Inderwick contends that Benjamin IV is also descended from Thomas Harrison, a participant in the regicide of Charles I, but this is disputed. Benjamin IV and Anne built the manor house at Berkeley Plantation in Virginia and he served as a Justice of the Peace and represented Charles City County in the Virginia House of Burgesses.

Benjamin Harrison (bust)
Benjamin Harrison is a bust by American artist Richard Peglow, located in the north atrium on the second floor of the Indiana Statehouse, which is in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The bust is cast in bronze and depicts President Benjamin Harrison. The bust is placed in front of a grey and black marble shield with six stars tracing around the edge of the shape. The bust and shield are approximately 28 inches wide by 25 inches high and has a depth of 14.5 inches. The artwork was cast and placed in the statehouse in 2008 in accordance with Indiana code Section 2. IC 4-20.5-6-12.
Description
The artwork consists of three pieces: a bronze bust, a black granite shield and a limestone base. The bust is 21 inches tall by 17 inches wide (shoulder to shoulder) and has a depth of 12 inches. The entire sculpture has a height of 28 inches with a width of 25 inches and a depth of 14.5 inches. The bust depicts the 23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. He is wearing a his favorite overcoat and has a full beard. The only word present on the bust, Harrison, is on a bronze banner across the top of the granite shield. The shield is black Indian granite, the black polished edges showcasing the sandblasted gray interior. The six stars along the right and left flanks represent the six states (North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming) that entered the Union while Harrison was in office, more states than any other president. The shield design was dually-inspired; both from Harrison's 1888 campaign slogan "Protection and Reciprocity" and also recalls the shape of the Indiana State Tree, the tulip or "poplar" . The sculpture was made in the artist's studio in Kirklin and cast in bronze at the SinCerus Bronze Art Center in Indianapolis.

Fort Benjamin Harrison
Fort Benjamin Harrison was a U.S. Army post located in suburban Lawrence, Indiana, northeast of Indianapolis. It is named for the 23rd United States President, Benjamin Harrison.
History
Land was purchased in 1903, with the post being officially named for President Harrison in honor of Indianapolis being his hometown. In 1901, former President Benjamin Harrison's son Russell through lobbying efforts sold a nearby U.S. Arsenal where the U.S. Army used the money to buy land where the fort is located today.
Fort Benjamin Harrison saw its highest level of activity during World War I and World War II. The Fort Benjamin Harrison Reception Center opened in 1941 and was the largest reception center in the United States by 1943.
Within Fort Harrison was Camp Glenn, named in honor of Major General Edwin Forbes Glenn, who had served as Fort Harrison's commandant from 1912–1913, and who commanded the officer training that began at his camps in 1916. Camp Glenn was a Citizens Military Training Camp (CMTC) that was also used to house Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers. When the United States reestablished the Military Police Corps in 1941, an MP school was established at Camp Glenn and was operation by early 1942. The area was also used to detain Italian and German prisoners of war in 1944 and 1945.

Benjamin Harrison (priest)
Benjamin Harrison (1808–1887) was an Anglican clergyman and ecclesiastical administrator. His father was Benjamin Harrison, Treasurer of Guy's Hospital.
Harrison was educated at Christ Church, Oxford (matriculated 1826; Student 1828). He took his BA in 1830 and his MA in 1833 and achieved significant distinctions in classics, theology, and Hebrew. He was ordained deacon in 1832 and priest in 1833 and taught at Oxford for the next ten years, particularly specialising in Hebrew. During this time he became involved in the early years of the Oxford Movement, writing numbers 16, 17, 24, and 49 of the Tracts for the Times.
His ecclesiastical career outside the University started in 1842 when he was made one of the Six Preachers at Canterbury Cathedral. In 1843 he was appointed domestic chaplain to William Howley, archbishop of Canterbury. Howley appointed him in 1845 to the post of Archdeacon of Maidstone and to a canonry at Canterbury Cathedral, posts which he retained until his death.

Benjamin Harrison (Niehaus)
Benjamin Harrison is a public artwork by American artist Charles Henry Niehaus, located in University Park in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It is a full-length bronze sculptural portrait of 23rd President of the United States, the only U.S. President from Indiana.
Description
The sculpture was designed by Henry Bacon, sculpted by Charles Henry Niehaus, and cast by Gorham Manufacturing Company. The statue was dedicated October 27, 1908. The statue was partially funded by a benefit held at the English Opera House in 1902.
The sculpture depicts Benjamin Harrison standing before a draped, Greek style chair. He wears an open overcoat with one hand upraised and one hand holding gloves. The sculpture is mounted on an oval limestone base with a decorative top border and a relief of an eagle on the front.
Location
University Park is part of the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza in downtown Indianapolis. During his presidential campaign, Benjamin Harrison often gave speeches to traveling delegations in University Park.

Benjamin Harrison (major general)
Major General (Ret.) Benjamin L. Harrison (born 1928), is an American military leader notable for his contributions to the tactics of modern airmobile warfare involving the integration of helicopters with infantry and armor forces for both rapid deployment and subsequent support. General Harrison was an early advocate, theorist and practitioner of these tactics, commonly referred to as "air assault." They are analogous to the revolutionary use of armor and air support with infantry in blitzkrieg warfare in early World War II, and are critical to modern military doctrine as practiced in Vietnam Iraq and Afghanistan.
General Harrison developed basic principles and practices of "vertical envelopment" theory in the years following the Korean War to take advantage of the developments in rotary wing aircraft during the period between World War II and the Vietnam War. He was able to put those principles into practice in Vietnam, first as a combat aviation battalion commander and later as an infantry brigade commander in the 101st Airborne Division, one of the pioneer airmobile divisions, and expanded them as an advisor to commanding generals of the South Vietnamese 1st Division and the Vietnamese Airborne Division during Operation Lam Son 719.

There have been two father-son lineages in presidential history (Adams and Bush) but only one grandfather-grandson lineage, and that's William Henry Harrison (9th) and Benjamin Harrison (23rd). Harrison defeated Grover Cleveland in 1888 to become the meat in the Cleveland sandwich that was his two non-consecutive terms, and he didn't do much that was good in his term. He passed the McKinley tariff, and did other things that ended up screwing over the economy. Let's see what else he did!

Benjamin Harrison
Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833 – March 13, 1901) was the 23rd President of the United States (1889–93); he was the grandson of the ninth President, William Henry Harrison. Before ascending to the presidency, Harrison established himself as a prominent local attorney, Presbyterian church leader and politician in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the American Civil War, he served the Union as a colonel and on February 14, 1865 was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a brevet brigadier general of volunteers to rank from January 23, 1865. After the war, he unsuccessfully ran for the governorship of Indiana. He was later elected to the U.S. Senate by the Indiana legislature.
A Republican, Harrison was elected to the presidency in 1888, defeating the Democratic incumbent Grover Cleveland. Hallmarks of his administration included unprecedented economic legislation, including the McKinley Tariff, which imposed historic protective trade rates, and the Sherman Antitrust Act; Harrison facilitated the creation of the National Forests through an amendment to the Land Revision Act of 1891. He also substantially strengthened and modernized the Navy, and conducted an active foreign policy. He proposed, in vain, federal education funding as well as voting rights enforcement for African Americans during his administration.
