Full-size Ford is the popular term for a long-running line of Ford vehicles which have been produced in North America with a large degree of similarity since the Model T in 1908, up to the Crown Victoria, which ceased production in late 2011. The term full-size does not necessarily indicate it was large relative to its competitors, but that it was the largest and most complete model offered by Ford. The Model T's 134-inch overall length makes it substantially shorter than a current-generation Fiestahatchback (160.1" OAL).
American automobiles in the early years were usually only identified by make and year (such as a 1952 Ford). Typically, companies produced only one distinct model (excluding trim specifications) in a year, and thus nameplates were the exception rather than the rule. Nameplates emerged when companies began selling other cars to augment their lineup. The term "full-size" came in use after Ford introduced compact cars and mid-size or intermediate size classes in the 1960s.
A full-size car is a marketing term used in North America for an automobile larger than a mid-size car. Traditional U.S. full-size passenger cars were designed to be comfortable for six occupants and their luggage for long-distance driving. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) currently uses the term "large car" to denote full-size cars based on their combined interior passenger and luggage volume.
Definition
The traditional full-size passenger cars that were built by the U.S. automakers (General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, and American Motors) up to the 1970s "can carry six occupants plus vast amounts of luggage over long distances in great comfort, with more than adequate performance, and will give reasonable gas mileage under such conditions."
Full-size cars were also denoted for their length, nearing 4,953mm (195in) in basic low-priced, family sedans. The luxury models often tended to reach 5,350mm (211in). Previously, a wheelbase greater than 2,794mm (110in) was the criterion for full-size. The term first appeared in the early 1960s to distinguish what also became known as "standard"-size cars from the new compact and intermediate models then being introduced. Full-size is also defined in space measurement as greater than 3,300L (120ft³) of combined passenger and cargo interior volume. A majority of U.S. manufactured full size automobiles (with the exception of the Chrysler C platform and AMC's Ambassador) were constructed using a body-on-frame platform. This platform was phased out in 2011 when the Ford Panther vehicles ended production.

Today, it’s a given that there are many sedans available that are as quick as a Porsche 911 or Ferrari. In the 1960s, that idea was so inconceivable that no one had even conceived of conceiving of it. That one should be invented by a company whose reputation was for making trucks and boring cars for old people was all the more shocking, especially considering Mercedes-Benz didn’t even have a sports car of any type in their model line, let alone one whose pace could match a 911 or a 330 GTC. And the damn thing only existed because one engineering made one on his own time and then when the director of production heard it drive by his office late one night, he managed to get the Board of Directors to approve its production, thus creating the searingly fast, understated sedan model which we co...

And the damn thing only existed because one engineering made one on his own time and then when the director of production heard it drive by his office late one night, he managed to get the Board of Directors to approve its production, thus creating the searingly fast, understated sedan model which we continue to enjoy to this day.
In this video, Derek Tam-Scott recounts the extraordinary story of the 6.3, including its improbable success as a race car, and delivers a surprising verdict about what the car is capable of on the road.
BTS (behind the scenes) with DTS:
Derek Tam-Scott’s spirit age is excess of 75 years old, and nowhere is that clearer than his taste in cars. At age 16, he went to work at one of the United States' foremost vintage car dealers, which cemented his elderly taste. Now with a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving, and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced many of the world’s most iconic cars. And even liked some of them.
Most of the car enthusiasts of Derek’s generation (and well, let’s be honest, even a generation or two before him) don’t have much experience with the magic of vintage cars prior to the 1980s, and therefore lack the knowledge and exposure to get genuinely excited about them. The goal of BTS is to give an insider’s perspective on why these cars particularly are great...or at least interesting and noteworthy. Derek brings his encyclopedic knowledge and broad experience together to contextualize these cars to give the audience understanding of both why it matters, and what it’s actually like to experience the cars.

About ISSIMI
The niche, $30b industry of collectable and low-production cars has seen little innovation in the past several decades. It’s one that lacked transparency, dependent on traditional dealers, brokers, and auction houses with unnecessarily high fees.
We’re setting out to change that.
We believe our technological and operational excellence can decrease costs while increasing transparency into car quality, building trust between collectors. Give us a shot, and shop rare cars anywhere in the world from the comfort of your own home.
