In the area surrounding Fochville are a number of Sotho or Tswana ruins. The Boer War hero, Danie Theron, was killed just 5km north of the town. The town itself was only established as an agricultural centre in 1920 and was named after the World War I commander-in-chief of the Allied forces in France, Marshal of FranceFerdinand Foch.
In September 2012, the settlements near Fochville fell victim to some ethnic violence in which shacks were razed and burned to the ground, and four people were killed along with six injured. Apparently, the conflict was waged between two rival factions following a dispute over boundaries, making the violence a turf war. The weapons used were knobkierries, petrol cans, and traditional spears and daggers.

An enjoyable, informative Pannar farmer's day at Awie McGill just outside Fochville
Stephan le Roux, Pannar's representative in Potchefstroom and surroundings, hosted yet another successful farmer's day at Awie McGill just outside Fochville. Farmers from Potchefstroom, Fochville and Vereeniging came to see all our latest maize hybrids. Stephan planted a white and yellow maize P3 trial on Awie’s farm. Nico Barnard, Pannar's agronomist for the central Highveld, talked about Pannar's new PowerCore™ products, after which they walked through the trials and discussed the maize hybrids. Stephan ended the day with a tasty braai.

Fochville residents lay more complaints against local municipality
The Human Rights Commission has noted that the residents of Fochville in Merafong have had their constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment violated by persistent sewage leak problems in the area.
This as the residents have laid more complaints against the municipality for the raw sewage flowing near their homes that led to several people falling sick. The town's waste treatment plant is currently closed for renovations and raw sewerage is flowing freely.
