Ilse Annoeska de Lange was born on May 13, 1977 in Almelo, Netherlands. She started her career at the age of 8 as a lip-synching artist, which won her several contests. DeLange drew greater attention after switching to a live repertoire in both regional and national talent shows in Hilversum (Dutch city where most TV-programs are recorded). This helped her book some live-performances on national television. She formed a duo with guitarist Joop van Liefland, who introduced her to country music.
In 1994, DeLange performed at the Dutch Country Music Awards. Despite positive reviews, nothing happened with her career. She did get in touch with representatives of Warner Music but it took several years of negotiation before they decided to offer her a contract. That same year, she participated in the "Zangfestival der Onbekenden" ("Song Contest of the Unknown") in the Dutch city of Eindhoven. With her implementation of Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn and The Song Remembers When by Trisha Yearwood, she won the contest and got the opportunity to record a demo. In 1996, DeLange drew the attention from the A&R-manager of Dutch record company BMI Music, Henk-Jan Smits. He persuaded her to join the occasional popgroup Wij and they released the single "De Oorlog Meegemaakt" ("Experienced The War"). However the single did not chart the Dutch Top 40.
Flying Blind is a mystery novel by Max Allan Collins that was first published in 1999. The book was part of Collins' ongoing series of novels featuring private detective Nathan Heller.
In the Heller series, the lead character is frequently featured interacting with historical figures of the 1930s and 1940. In Flying Blind, set in the mid-1930s, Heller is hired by book publisher and publicist George P. Putnam to act as a bodyguard for his wife, strong-willed celebrity aviatorAmelia Earhart, and at the same time investigate who might be sending her threatening letters.
Heller is initially reluctant to act as a "babysitter" and he and Earhart have a rocky relationship at first, but eventually their relationship progresses to the point where they become lovers. (This reflects historic evidence that in real life Earhart asked Putnam for an open marriage (, ).
Before Heller is able to solve the case, Earhart leaves on her ill-fated attempt to fly around the world and disappears. The book picks up again several years later when Heller learns that Earhart is being held captive by the Japanese (which in reality is often suggested in speculations about her ultimate fate). Heller then attempts to rescue her from her prison.

'Cross the bering strait To a foreign land I took the sky just like I planned Left my old life behind There in the ice and snow Followed a rainbow to Mexico Somewhere this side of lucky Just shy of goin' down There's a pilot with her wings on fire And she doesn't even notice She's got magic on her mind 'Cause she's flying solo for the first time Chorus: Flying solo Like an angel in the night Flyin' solo Across the great divide I've been down so low, now I'm up so high There ain't nothin' short of dying Is gonna make me change my mind Flyin' solo, flyin' solo Like a fallin' leaf I fell down from your tree Chalk one up to prosperity In search of warmer waters I'm like a bird gone south Don't know just what I'll find But I'm findin' out Now here I'm dancin' with the moon Spinning out of control Never be the same again 'Cause there's a place on the horizon Where it hardly ever rains The sun is always shining Freedom is it's name Chorus Around the world that's where I'll be Amelia Earheart's got nothin' on me
