In a century of animated cinema, the importance of animator Max Fleischer cannot be overstated. Fleischer created Betty Boop, produced the original Popeye and Superman cartoons, and also invented the Rotoscope. Fabulous Fleischer Cartoons Restored is on a mission to restore the films of Max Fleischer from original prints and negatives. We visited the team and restoration expert Steve Stanchfield at Blackhawk Films, a film scanning facility in Southern California to learn about the restoration process and watch a classic Koko the Clown short brought back to life.

All film stocks decompose over time. Sometimes this decomposition is irreversible — which explains why an estimated 75% of American silent films are considered lost. We visited The George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, to see how its team rescues old movies and restores them to their former glory.
The Eastman Museum runs one of the world's top film-preservation programs. Its archives of over 28,000 films include the personal collections of directors like Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese and carefully controlled nitrate vaults containing over 26 million feet of film.

Note: Kindly asking folks with corrections/complaints/criticism to consult the pinned comment before leaving them. Theres a very good chance it was already mentioned there, so it might save you some time. That said, I appreciate you wanting to point something out! If it weren’t for the fact that YouTube doesn’t allow videos to get updated after upload (and the fact that I’ve already deleted these project files since there’s no reason to keep like 300gb of assets laying around), I totally would have updated these things already.
Also, be sure to watch the video in 4K for the clearest view of what I'm talking about since YouTube shredded the video quality.
Movies. What are they? Moving images. Oh, okay. Yeah, that was fast. Well, why don't they look right when you watch them at home! There's a million reasons (it helps to turn the TV on first, Aunt Edie), but two of the main reasons is because they've been recolored and degrained. Why? Well, stick around and let's explore the subject together, shall we?
