Fetchin Bones was a cross-genre rock band from North Carolina. During a six-year career they produced five albums but were most celebrated for their consistently inspired live performances. As one reviewer put it they were "a band that must be seen live for a full grasp of their eclectic frenzy". During numerous tours Fetchin Bones supported acts such as R.E.M., the B52s, X and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.Allmusic described the band as "a truly underrated group that didn't hit it big when they should've".
Fetchin Bones' second through fourth albums were produced by Don Dixon and recorded at Mitch Easter's Drive-In Studio and at Reflection Studios in Charlotte. The fifth and final album was produced by Ed Stasium in Los Angeles.

Fetchin's Bones was one of the most popular alternative bands of the late 1980s. Its lead singer, Hope Nicholls, was a friend of Nelson's from the past. While Nelson was attending Davidson College, Hope was nine years old and publishing her own series of books: The Gross Book series whose titles include "Ted's 10-Foot Tongue" and "The Hat That Fell on Davidson". Nelson was best friends with Hope's sister Gail. Nelson went to video the band whenever Fetchin' Bones was performing in New York. This time was at CBGBs.
