The Ferrari 308 GT4 Committed A Major Sin.. Is It Time To Forgive?
There are a couple of Ferraris that were never accepted the 308 GT4 is one of them. It’s biggest problem was that it wasn’t designed by Pininfarina or looked like a traditional Ferrari. But also it was Ferrari’s first V8 and badged as a Dino. In my drive today I examine whether this mid é g ones 2+2 is true Ferrari or not.

1980 Ferrari 308 GT4: Bertone Designed | Petrolicious
Sometime between his seventh and eighth birthday, Philippe Gardette sent a collection of his sports car designs in a letter to one of his favorite marques, Ferrari. Little did Philippe know back then, but his passion would catalyze into a 42-year-long career working with Prancing Horses. To give a sense of the level of kit that passes through his doors, Philippe pulls out a photo album and flips to a page that shows a 250 GTO on a lift above a 288 GTO—enough said.
Spending time around these near mythic cars hasn’t jaded him though, and his relatively humble 308 GT4 has more sentimental value than any GTO, as the once-controversial Bertone designed wedge was the first car that that Philippe worked on and maintained. The Dino 246 and 308 GT4 Were Not "Less-Than" Ferraris — Revelations with Jason Cammisa Ep. 31
Popular lore has taken an out-of-context quote from Enzo Ferrari that "a Ferrari is a twelve-cylinder car" to mean that Il Commendatore thought any car with fewer than twelve cylinders is not worthy of the Ferrari badge. And thus, the Dino Ferraris aren't real Ferraris.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Dino was the name of Ferrari's only one legitimate son, who died young at the merciless hands of Muscular Dystrophy. Dino himself was named after Enzo's father and older brother, both of whom died when Enzo was a teenager.
The "Dino" badge wasn't an insult — it was an honor. And it adorns two of the best-driving Ferrari road cars ever created.
In this episode, automotive journalist Jason Cammisa explains the history of Enzo's Double Ds — the 206/246 Dino and the 308 GT4 Dino — and...

Vintage Behind the Wheel: 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
The Dino 308 GT4 was low on the collector scale despite being groundbreaking for Ferrari as it was their first production car to feature a mid-engine V8, was the first Bertone design after a long line of curvy sexy Pininfarina creation and was the first Ferrari sold as new in the US. The name "Dino" came from Enzo Ferrari's only son, Alfredo or Alfredino to his family, on whom the legacy of the Ferrari name hung. Unfortunately, Dino had muscular dystrophy and passed away at age 24 and though the gesture of naming the car after him was touching it lead to confused customers and poor sales.
Nearly forty years after it hit the States, we got a chance to chat with Mr. Anthony Rimicci about how he bought this car on accident, how the Dino badge has become cool again and what it's like to drive...

This Ferrari Dino 208 GT4 Is Beloved By Autodromo's Bradley Price
The Ferrari Dino 208 GT4 is a unique car. Overshadowed by its bigger brother, the 308 GT4, the 208 was originally created to skirt under the Italian tax levied on engines above two liters. What the 208 GT4 lacks in displacement it makes up for in sound and style. For Bradley Price, designer and owner of Autodromo, the opportunity to acquire a practical "super car" of the '70s with its famous wedge styling was too hard to ignore. After a year of ownership, Bradley can consistently be found escaping the city and revving the sweet-sounding V8 along the roads and hills of New York.
