Peter Paul Cetera (/səˈtɛrə/sə-TERR-ə; born September 13, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, and bassist best known for being an original member of the rock band Chicago, before launching a successful solo career. As a solo artist, Cetera has scored six Top-40 singles, including two that reached number 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Cetera will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Chicago in 2016.
Early life
Family
Cetera was born and raised in the Morgan Park section of Chicago, Illinois, located on the far South Side. He was the second of six children and is of Polish and Hungarian descent. His father worked as a machinist. Cetera's siblings include two brothers, Tim Cetera (who also recorded an album with Ricky Nelson in the early 1970s) and Kenny Cetera, who are listed as contributing musicians on some of the recordings he made with Chicago and on some of his solo recordings.
Formal education
Cetera attended Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary for one year of high school because, he says, "my mother wanted me to be a priest." He transferred to Mendel Catholic Prep High School, graduated from there in 1962, and is listed among the "Notable Alumni".
Peter Cetera, released in 1981, is the self-titled first solo release by then-Chicago member and lead vocalist Peter Cetera.
A much more rock-oriented album than Chicago had been producing at the time, Cetera released the album in December 1981 while still a member of the band. Released on Full Moon Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers (reissued in 2004 on Wounded Bird Records), the album was not commercially successful. However, it was notable because all but one song ("I Can Feel It," which was co-written by Cetera) on the album was penned by Cetera himself. The single "Livin' In The Limelight", the only hit from the album, charted in the Billboard Mainstream Rock Top 10.
One year after Peter Cetera was released, Cetera and Chicago launched a major comeback with the #1 single "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" and album Chicago 16. After 1984's Chicago 17 was also a massive hit, Cetera left the band to concentrate fully on his solo career.
Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, a friend of Cetera's, played rhythm guitar on the track "I Can Feel It", as well as co-writing the song.
"(Feels Like) Heaven" is a song by the Scottish music group Fiction Factory. It was released as a single at the end of 1983 and appears on their debut album Throw the Warped Wheel Out. The track was a hit in Switzerland, reaching #2 on the Swiss singles chart. In the UK, it peaked at #6. Other chart positions include #14 in Sweden and #20 in Austria. The song is a regular feature on 1980s and new wavecompilations.
Fiction Factory had no other notable successes beyond "(Feels Like) Heaven", which rendered the band as a one-hit wonder.

Lying here thinking of a place to hide I've got to get away There are times like this when I'm better off by myself Stuck in a corner Nothing more to lose, I'm a goner I'm just chained by thoughts, surrounded by walls And they're closing in around me Lying here waiting for the chance to run I need to isolate There are times like this when I'd rather be left alone Caught in a panic Trying not to look like a manic Got to move, got to go Got to get out of here Leave this all behind me (chorus) Solitude, Solitaire No one will ever find me there Solitude, Solitaire Won't you give me some bread, give me some water Solitude, Solitaire No one will ever find me there Got to find peace of mind, clear the air Mass confusion Leaving me with no solution If you find I'm asleep, better leave me alone I'll wake up when it's over chorus chorus Won't you give me some bread, give me some water Got to find peace of mind, clear the air
