The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is an international organization of aviation enthusiasts based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Since its inception it has grown internationally with over 180,000 members and nearly 1,000 chapters worldwide.
Organizational structure
The organization is overseen by a chairman, a president, a CEO and a board of directors. Paul Poberezny assumed the duties of president and CEO at the 1953 founding. In 1989 he assumed the (newly created) position of chairman of the board, and his son Tom Poberezny became president and CEO. In March 2009 Paul Poberezny resigned, and the board voted to elevate Tom Poberezny to chairman of the board. At AirVenture 2010, it was announced that Rod Hightower would succeed Tom Poberezny as president of the organization, effective September 2010.
Hightower resigned on 22 October 2012 "effective immediately", directly after a board of directors meeting during which former Cessna chairman, president and CEO Jack J. Pelton was elected chairman. Hightower indicated he was resigning to spend more time with his family and would not relocate from St. Louis to Oshkosh. Pelton was named acting CEO and will oversee the hiring process for Hightower's permanent replacement. In response to questions about Hightower's resignation, Mac McClellan, EAA vice president of publications, stated that it was due to Hightower failing to relocate himself from his home in St. Louis to EAA headquarters in Oshkosh, as the board had expected him to. McClellan said, "I know there's all kinds of complaints, but that's not it. [The residency] was the unsolvable requirement. The board sees the president/CEO living in the Fox Valley as essential to the mission."
An experimental aircraft is an aircraft that has not yet been fully proven in flight. Often, this implies that new aerospace technologies are being tested on the aircraft, though the label is more broad.
The term "experimental aircraft" is also sometimes used to refer to aircraft flown with an "Experimental" category airworthiness certificate. In the U.S. this includes most homebuilt aircraft; many of which are based on conventional designs and hence are experimental only in name.

Experimental Aircraft Association of Canada's Orillia fly-in 1971 Video by George Czerny-Holownia
There was no bloodshed, some tears and considerable sweat as this non-technical senior worked to recover a file which shows footage from the Experimental Aircraft Association of Canada's annual fly-in at Lake St. John Airport in 1971.
I had 16 m.m., footage that I shot -- without sound -- at that event made into a digital version and shared it. I took a stick with that file on it to the office at Lake St. John airport and offered it with my compliments (free!) about a year before covid hit. The person there did not seem interested but promised to pass the stick along to somebody who manages the airport. I never heard another thing.
I sent a copy of the video to the Shaw Maple Products folks south of Orillia, with my compliments, because Lawrence Shaw is shown in this video. I knew him back...

I scoured my files and memory sticks and finally ....yes!... found the file. I have copied it to a new memory stick and hope it can be uploaded here so that all of you can view it.
Sorry, no sound! I could not afford sound back in those days. But I did get to fly in an open-cockpit, two-seater Shark and also in a Beechcraft Staggerwing. Quite a thrill.
I hope this little video from 1971 brings you some aviation joy!
With my compliments!
