European Integration Explained | Simulation
Sebastian Mallaby, Paul A. Volcker senior fellow for international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations, describes the history, context, and current challenges of European integration for CFR Education’s “Economic Crisis in Europe” case study. Mallaby explains how this integration began after World War II with efforts to prevent renewed conflict. European countries later built a common market for trade, which has fueled the continent’s prosperity. Mallaby describes the EU’s achievements—peace and general prosperity—while noting some of its challenges, such as currency integration. Thi...

This provides the backdrop for the economic crisis that has afflicted many European countries in recent years. Labor market regulation is another policy challenge, Mallaby explains. He concludes by noting the high stakes of European economic success for the United States, which not only trades with Europe but also counts European countries among its most important partners in addressing international challenges.

Theories of integration - Understanding International Relations Theory
The course aims to introduce the key assumptions of the international relations theory as a part of social science and as an analytic tool, focusing on the problems of war and peace, foreign policy decision-making, etc. The course combines historic approach and analysis of the modern political problems. The historic part shows the evolution of the international relations theory from being a part of political philosophy to its emergence as a special branch of political science, which is essential to understand the key ideas of the IR science. The lectures also include broad outline of the modern concepts and debates in the context of the contemporary political problems, such as rise of China and other emerging powers, threat of terrorism, US-Russia confrontation, etc.
The lectures of the two outstanding Russian scholars and political analysts – Timofey Bordachev and Dmitry Suslov - cover such fields as the problems of international security and conflict resolution, international economic relations, foreign policy decision-making, global governance, the role of power in the IR.

How Fast Is the World's Fastest Supercomputer?
The world’s new fastest supercomputer is insanely fast. It's the first to be able to compute a quintillion calculations per second, which is a billion BILLION calculations. If every single person on earth did one calculation per second, it would take FOUR YEARS to equal what this computer can do in one second.
It’s called Frontier, built by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and they’re using it to solve all sorts of problems from forecasting extreme weather, to designing more efficient aircraft engines, to modeling the production of fusion energy.
This supercomputer has a level of computing power that breaks my brain, and I can’t wait to see what we discover with it.
