Euroscepticism

Euroscepticism (sometimes euroskepticism, EU-scepticism or Anti-EUism) is to criticism of the European Union (EU). Traditionally, the main source of euroscepticism has been the notion that integration weakens the nation state, and a desire to slow, halt or reverse integration within the EU. Other views often held by eurosceptics include perceptions of the EU being undemocratic or too bureaucratic. Euroscepticism should not be confused with anti-Europeanism, which refers to the rejection of the culture of Europe and Europeanisation, and sentiments, opinions and discrimination against European ethnic groups. A Eurobarometer survey of EU citizens in 2009 showed that support for membership of the EU was lowest in Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Hungary. Euroscepticism is found in political parties across the political spectrum; however, the rise in radical right-wing parties in Europe is strongly linked to a rise in Euroscepticism in the continent.

Global outlook

While having some overlaps, euroscepticism and Anti-Europeanism are different. Anti-Europeanism has always had a strong influence in American culture and American exceptionalism, which sometimes sees Europe on the decline or as a rising rival power, or both. Some aspects of euroscepticism in the United Kingdom have been mirrored and parroted by US authors.

EuroSceptic

EuroSceptic (originally titled as Paint This City) is the second album of British singer Jack Lucien. It was released in October 2009.

Due to being an album influenced by Europop, it features songs with parts in different languages. Whilst eight of the songs are predominantly in English, "Give Me Your Love" is mostly sung in Spanish and "Sentiments" is sung in Catalan, Spanish, and Portuguese. The middle 8 of "My Intervention" is in Spanish, "Je Suis Un Superstar" features various lyrics in French, and the album version of "I'm Not Afraid" has parts sung in Catalan.

After releasing the album, Lucien gave four free addition songs sung in both Russian and English on his Myspace: "Kreshatik", "Moscow", "Bez Tebya" (Without You), and "Shto S Taboj?" (What's Up?).

The album did not manage to chart in any country's albums chart. The verses of the song "Closure" are heard on "Wait for You", a track on the Sugababes album Sweet 7.

"For a large part, we've got to see the rise of Eurosceptic parties and right-wing populist parties in the light of the changes that the European Union is currently experiencing. These changes are numerous. The first change of course is due to the transformation of the Union itself from a small European community into an area made of 28 Member States today. So, from an identity point of view, from what the EU represents today, we are in a different configuration. 'The second one is due to the economic crisis which has been structurally affecting Europe since the end of the 70's and then from time to time in a severe way since 2007-2008. This creates a lot of uncertainty, a lot of fears which traditionally leads to identity isolationism. 'And the third one is due to Europe's representation on the international stage: Europe is in a consistent decline, of industrial decline, Europe is losing the historical place it used to have. 'So, we're in a logic of identity isolationism which leads to the denial of various forms of solidarities. This denial for example can express itself through rising regionalism within Member States. On a national level, this denial can expresses itself through the rise of political parties such as the True Finns in Finland, the Alternative for Germany in Germany or the FPÖ in Austria which all call for putting an end to solidarity within the EU. 'Those parties have an impact on major traditional parties which fear that they could gain ground electorally and politically. Major parties themselves now tend to be more reluctant to go for more Europe, tend to be reluctant to be more pro-active in the European Council. 'We could see this tendency with the vote on the EU budget several Member States and thus several political parties have been very reluctant to increase the EU budget because they feared they would be "punished" by voters in national or European elections." And is it a threat for the EU as we know it today?" Her question is answered by Pascal Delwit a political analyst at the Free University of Brussels. "For a large part, we've got to see the rise of Eurosceptic parties and right-wing populist parties in the light of the changes that the European Union is currently experiencing. These changes are numerous. The first change of course is due to the transformation of the Union itself from a small European community into an area made of 28 Member States today. So, from an identity point of view, from what the EU represents today, we are in a different configuration. 'The second one is due to the economic crisis which has been structurally affecting Europe since the end of the 70's and then from time to time in a severe way since 2007-2008. This creates a lot of uncertainty, a lot of fears which traditionally leads to identity isolationism. 'And the third one is due to Europe's representation on the international stage: Europe is in a consistent decline, of industrial decline, Europe is losing the historical place it used to have. 'So, we're in a logic of identity isolationism which leads to the denial of various forms of solidarities. This denial for example can express itself through rising regionalism within Member States. On a national level, this denial can expresses itself through the rise of political parties such as the True Finns in Finland, the Alternative for Germany in Germany or the FPÖ in Austria which all call for putting an end to solidarity within the EU. 'Those parties have an impact on major traditional parties which fear that they could gain ground electorally and politically. Major parties themselves now tend to be more reluctant to go for more Europe, tend to be reluctant to be more pro-active in the European Council. 'We could see this tendency with the vote on the EU budget several Member States and thus several political parties have been very reluctant to increase the EU budget because they feared they would be "punished" by voters in national or European elections." Euroscepticism

Euroscepticism (sometimes euroskepticism, EU-scepticism or Anti-EUism) is to criticism of the European Union (EU). Traditionally, the main source of euroscepticism has been the notion that integration weakens the nation state, and a desire to slow, halt or reverse integration within the EU. Other views often held by eurosceptics include perceptions of the EU being undemocratic or too bureaucratic. Euroscepticism should not be confused with anti-Europeanism, which refers to the rejection of the culture of Europe and Europeanisation, and sentiments, opinions and discrimination against European ethnic groups. A Eurobarometer survey of EU citizens in 2009 showed that support for membership of the EU was lowest in Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Hungary. Euroscepticism is found in political parties across the political spectrum; however, the rise in radical right-wing parties in Europe is strongly linked to a rise in Euroscepticism in the continent.

Global outlook

While having some overlaps, euroscepticism and Anti-Europeanism are different. Anti-Europeanism has always had a strong influence in American culture and American exceptionalism, which sometimes sees Europe on the decline or as a rising rival power, or both. Some aspects of euroscepticism in the United Kingdom have been mirrored and parroted by US authors.
