In the context of spaceflight, a satellite is an artificial object which has been intentionally placed into orbit. Such objects are sometimes called artificial satellites to distinguish them from natural satellites such as Earth's Moon.
The world's first artificial satellite, the Sputnik 1, was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957. Since then, thousands of satellites have been launched into orbit around the Earth. Some satellites, notably space stations, have been launched in parts and assembled in orbit. Artificial satellites originate from more than 40 countries and have used the satellite launching capabilities of ten nations. About a thousand satellites are currently operational, whereas thousands of unused satellites and satellite fragments orbit the Earth as space debris. A few space probes have been placed into orbit around other bodies and become artificial satellites to the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Vesta, Eros, Ceres, and the Sun.
On Through the Night is the debut album by English rock band Def Leppard, released in 1980. The album was produced by Tom Allom. It charted at No. 15 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 51 on the Billboard 200. The album features re-recorded versions of "Rocks Off" and "Overture", tracks from the band's original independently released EP, The Def Leppard E.P. Other tracks are re-recorded versions of early demos, some of which appeared on the First Strike and Warchild bootlegs. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA on 9 May 1989.
"Rocks Off", "Wasted", "Hello America" and "Rock Brigade" were released as singles. However, the versions of "Rocks Off" (titled "Getcha Rocks Off") and "Wasted" that appears on the singles is a different recording from that of the LP, as is its B-side, "Hello America". The single "Getcha Rocks Off" included the songs "Ride into the Sun" and "Overture".
"Entangled" is a song by Genesis, recorded in November 1975 at Trident Studios, London for inclusion on the album A Trick of the Tail. It is the second track on the album, featuring 12-string acoustic guitars. Written by keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Steve Hackett, the song tells the story of an unpleasant period of illness and the horrors of a psychiatric hospital. The song ends with a sequence featuring a solo blending the ARP 2600 synthesizer and the choir section on Tony Banks' Mellotron. According to Banks, "Entangled" was a combination of a song fragment that Hackett had written in 6/8 but didn't yet have a chorus or a definitive direction, with a previously unused piece of music Banks had written that was also in 6/8. Banks and Hackett put the two pieces together, and had drummer, vocalist Phil Collins sing what Banks' original piano part had been. Said Banks, "It produced what is probably my favourite track on that album, ending with a great cathedral-type feeling." The song was performed live during the 1976 A Trick of the Tail Tour. A live performance of this song, filmed in Glasgow, is included in the 2007 Remaster DVD.
Entangled is an abstract sculpture consisting of eight unique elements bolted together to create an enclosed form. The powder coatedsteelsculpture measures 108” x 88” x 98” and is constructed from rolled steel tubes and fabricated steel circles. The base of the sculpture is mounted on a 16' diameter concrete pad in the Herron Sculpture Garden. The curved support structure at the base of the sculpture references the shape of a bird’s nest as it encloses and supports the sculptural elements.
The Freidlander donors contributed to the funding for a sculpture competition open to upper level Herron students. Partington’s maquette of Entangled won the competition. The sculpture was located on their private property from 2004–2008. It was moved to its current location on the IUPUI campus in 2008.
Receiving Images From Satellites Part 2: Decoding and Demodulating NOAA and METEOR Transmissions

How to Pull Images from Satellites in Orbit (NOAA 15,18,19 and METEOR M2)
Over the past 2 months, me and my friend Artem have been building antennas to receive signals from weather satellites as they pass overhead. This video chronicles our progress through this project and goes through some of the science involved in working with radio and receiving transmissions. We explore how dipoles work and how to build them, and how we built our final double cross antenna. We used an SDR (software defined radio) called a HackRF to do the work of interpreting the received signals and then decoded them with some special software. We pulled images from 4 satellites: NOAA 15, 18 and 19 as well as METEOR M2. The satellites broadcast immediately as they take the images and no images are stored, so we're likely the only ones on earth with these images.

Weightless net testing for derelict satellite capture
The use of deployable nets to catch derelict satellites as they tumble in space was explored recently in weightlessness. The experiment was carried out during a week-long visit to the National Research Council of Canada’s site on Ottawa airport in February 2015, including two days of parabolic flights on their Falcon 20 aircraft.
The first part of the video shows a nylon net being fired from a compressed air gun between two researchers, shown in real time. The net entangled a scale-model satellite. The next part shows slowed-down high-speed HD footage from cameras placed both ahead of (left) and behind (right). This footage will be used to complete computer simulations (the output is seen in the final part of the video), which will help to develop full-sized nets for space debris removal,...

This footage will be used to complete computer simulations (the output is seen in the final part of the video), which will help to develop full-sized nets for space debris removal, potentially starting with ESA’s e.Deorbit mission.
The National Research Council of Canada parabolic flights were contracted by Poland’s SKA Polska company, overseeing the research project for ESA. Other members of the project team include Italy’s STAM company and Poland’s OptiNav company.

“Chinese scientists say they have "teleported" a photon particle from the ground to a satellite orbiting 1,400km (870 miles) away. For many, however, teleportation evokes something much more exotic. Is a world previously confined to science fiction now becoming reality? Well, sort of. But we are not likely to be beaming ourselves to the office or a beach in the Bahamas anytime soon. Sorry.”
China Demonstrates First Intercontinental Quantum Communication

“The first public demonstration of long distance quantum communication came a few weeks after China unveiled a new 1,240-mile-long optic-fiber quantum communication network between Beijing and Shanghai for the “military, finance, and government affairs fields.” In May, Chinese researchers announced a new quantum computer that they claimed was 24,000 times faster than competing designs, too.”
Quantum Data Storage in a Single Atom Brings New Computing Era Closer to Reality
