LDS Temple Endowment and Masonry | Ep. 1669 | LDS Discussions Ep. 23
Join Mike and John as they discuss Mormonism’s early connection with Masonry through Joseph Smith and the unique problems it creates for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to grapple with today.
Covered topics include the timeline of Joseph becoming a Master Mason before introducing the similarly-themed rituals of the Temple Endowment Ceremony, why many members and apologists claim Masonry to be of ancient origin despite evidence to the contrary, the many parallels between the secret rituals of both organizations, and whether or not the Temple Endowment involved false doctrines.

Ex-Mormons Relive Temple Experience
DISCLAIMER - This video discusses and shows temple clothing, temple rituals, etc. If this is upsetting or offensive to you in any way, don't watch! This is stated in the video multiple times, but I want to provide ample warnings to make sure you don't see anything you don't want to see. I don't want people to feel ostracized or uncomfortable, but this is REAL. This was a HUGE part of my life, and I should have the freedom to talk about that. I didn't know what I was getting into when I was baptized OR when I went through the temple. This is not new information, it's not "exposing" anything. My Experience Inside the Mormon Temple *endowment*
Welcome to my channel where we dive deep into Mormon beliefs. I am a Christian who was raised in the high demand religion of Mormonism and found my way out and to to Jesus. I dive deep in some videos but have fun in others but my ultimate goal is to open people's eyes and get the truth to those who need it. Most non-Mormons don't understand the depth of Mormon faith and most Mormons don't understand how unbiblical their faith is and I'm here to help!
Today im talking about my experience in the mormon temple.

UNEDITED Mormon Temple Endowment Ceremony (w/ HIDDEN CAMERA)
This is the ENTIRE, unedited copy of a LIVE session of the Mormon Temple Endowment ceremony as it is performed in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The Mormons). Many parts of this video are very hard to hear. There is a version with closed captions embedded into the video that can be seen here: https://youtu.be/b8sbYtFOnxk
This video starts as I leave my locker in the dressing room to right before everyone goes to the veil and into the Celestial Room. It is one continuous, unedited shot. The camera is sometimes obscured momentarily by my clothing and/or the temple robes that all participants are required to wear during the endowment ceremony.

What Is a Temple Endowment?
In temples, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worship God and look forward to the promise that we can live with God and our loved ones forever. Learn more about temples and eternal families with missionaries: https://bit.ly/3CY9KBV
Temples are a place for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to worship, pray, and participate in sacred ceremonies called ordinances. The endowment ceremony teaches about God’s plan and His love for us. The word endowment means gift—in this case, blessings from God.

Julia and America!
I am SO EXCITED to start this series with the two of you! As always, Julia does not disappoint with the slides and quoted historical documents!
Polygamy is my “shelf breaker”.
We discuss our own interpretations and feelings of polygamy at the end of the podcast...I think that might be my favorite part! Hearing your thoughts about each “wife” and the empathy and feelings that come up for each of us is hard and connecting.

MORMON TEMPLE ENDOWMENT CEREMONY (WITH MOVIE)
This is the entire Mormon Temple Endowment Ceremony (with movie) that is in every temple in the world except the Manti, Utah and Salt Lake City, Utah temples. (Those two temples have temple workers act out the endowment ceremony instead of showing a movie in those two temples.)
Mormons believe they must wear special underwear (which can only be purchased in special Mormon Church owned stores) and learn secret Masonic handshakes in order to go to Heaven.
Take special note of the "Law of Consecration" that is at the 58:40 mark. Mitt Romney has sworn to obey this oath countless times. Do you really want the President of the United States to be a man who has sworn to "consecrate" all of his "time, talents and everything with which the Lord has blessed him with or with which he WILL BE ble...

Hidden camera footage of Mormon temple ritual
If you’re looking for the movie, “We will go down”, starring University of Utah alum and award winning adult film star, Christie Stevens, you’ve come to the wrong place. This is just hidden camera footage of part of a secret Mormon ceremony recorded in a Mormon temple in Arizona in 2016. Sorry.
I've posted several Mormon temple prayer circle videos on YouTube but rarely post footage of what happens immediately after the prayer circle. Most of my videos (including this one) were recorded BEFORE major changes were made to the temple endowment ceremony on January 1, 2019. This video begins immediately after the prayer circle seen in the following video as it ends at the 6:14 mark: https://youtu.be/ZPXxYStfuC0

Secret Mormon Temple Ceremony filmed w/ hidden camera
Recorded in the Jordan River Temple in South Jordan Utah on Feb. 21, 2015. This is a typical prayer circle that is part of the Mormon (aka The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) temple endowment ceremony.
Mormon missionaries will rarely (if ever) discuss the details of this ritual with prospective converts. In fact, a vast majority of Mormons under the age of 18 know virtually nothing about this ceremony.
You can watch this entire ceremony on YouTube channel NewNameNoah.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This ceremony had some major changes made to it on Jan. 1, 2019 and for at least the first couple of months of 2019, participants of the Mormon temple endowment ceremony would hear a recorded message from their First Presidency (aka the Mormon top brass who claim to be prophets) telling them t...

Joseph Smith’s Polygamy with Analyzing Mormonism | Part 3
Julia and America!
I am SO EXCITED to start this series with the two of you! As always, Julia does not disappoint with the slides and quoted historical documents!
Polygamy is my “shelf breaker”.
We discuss our own interpretations and feelings of polygamy at the end of the podcast...I think that might be my favorite part! Hearing your thoughts about each “wife” and the empathy and feelings that come up for each of us is hard and connecting.
Thank you for the amazing truth claims series, Julia! It’s so awesome to hear women’s voices in the ex-Mormon truth claims space!
Love,
Jenn

MORMON TEMPLE ENDOWMENT CEREMONY (WITH MOVIE)
This is the entire Mormon Temple Endowment Ceremony (with movie) that is in every temple in the world except the Manti, Utah and Salt Lake City, Utah temples. (...
Do you really want the President of the United States to be a man who has sworn to "consecrate" all of his "time, talents and everything with which the Lord has blessed him with or with which he WILL BE blessed with" to the Mormon Church?!?!
It seems to me that THAT oath might conflict with the oath of office.

I highly recommend this book for a more comprehensive look at this issue: “Exploring the Connection Between Mormons and Masons,” by Matthew B. Brown.
NOTES:
Quotes I wanted to include but didn’t have space for:
From Dr. Mark Rivera: “For over 20 years, Smith had shown a pattern of encountering sacred texts, pondering them prayerfully and then receiving major revelation … It is my belief that the three masonic ceremonies of ritual initiation constituted for Smith another sacred text for him to ponder and meditate upon. In turn, I believe this pondering and contemplation over the weeks following his initiation became a context for Smith to receive a major revelation consistent with the pattern in which Smith had received some major revelations before.”
From Q and A with Scott Gordon: “[Q.] Did Joseph simply copy the temple ceremony from the masons? [A.] No. There is too much in the temple that isn’t related to what goes on in masonry. [Q.] Are there elements in the endowment ceremony that are found in masonry? [A.] Yes. There are a few but they have been completely repurposed. Certainly the temple ceremony contains some of the phrases, wording, and symbols that exist within masonry. But, these things, both masonic and biblical, were part of the world Joseph Smith lived in. Just as we use movie language in our speaking, it is not surprising to have some masonic language in the world of Joseph Smith. … [Q.] Did Joseph Smith simply believe something was ancient that was really modern and copy that into a fake temple ceremony? [A.] No, even if you stripped out all of the elements that overlap with masonry, the temple ceremony is surprisingly in alignment with ancient temples.”
Also from Scott Gordon’s presentation: “Masonry focuses on man’s relationship to man while the temple endowment focuses on man’s relationship to God. While there may be some passing similarities between some Masonic rituals and the temple ritual of the endowment, the teachings, the covenants, and the purposes are completely different. Did Joseph Smith use some words and symbols from Masonry to create the temple ceremony? Probably, but only a very small amount the he repurposed for a different meaning. Did the Masons use words and symbols from Solomon’s temple to create their masonic ceremonies? Or were they purely seventeenth century creations? I don’t think anybody knows that answer for sure. But, it really doesn’t matter. Because the claim Joseph Smith borrowed the endowment ceremony from masonry, whether created in the seventeenth century or not, is clearly false. While there are a few similarities, the entire purpose and intent is different. Instead of believing that Joseph Smith copied the ceremony from the Masons, it makes much more sense to say that Joseph Smith received the promises and covenants of the Temple from God and from the scriptures. But he also adapted and repurposed some things he was exposed to in Freemasonry to assist in that temple ceremony. Whether those few repurposed masonic elements are of ancient or modern origin, I will leave up to you.”
Michael Ash wrote (emphasis added), “...important elements of the endowment include the key words, signs, and tokens. These elements are used to convey absolute truths although they may do so by way of relative truths that are subject to change. Thus, the vehicle by which these important elements are expressed, as well as other components of the endowment … are less essential (relative truths). The significance and purpose of the endowment (an absolute truth) remains unchanged.”

This video shows the part of the Mormon temple endowment ceremony commonly referred to as "the instructions at the veil". Mormons believe that they will be required to give Masonic handgrips before entering the Celestial Kingdom (aka Heaven) to the angels that stand as sentinels. Only Mormon adults are allowed to participate in this ceremony. In fact, a vast majority of Mormons under the age of 18 have no clue what adults do in their temples. They're told it's "too sacred to talk about". I'm not kidding.
In August, 2012 I posted the first hidden camera video of Mormon temple rituals online. It was a nearly six minute, poorly focused clip of the instructions that are given at the veil that I recorded with a well concealed iPhone in the Jordan River Temple in South Jordan, Utah.
Four years and over 3.5 million views later, I thought I'd remake that original video with a significantly higher quality version. This time the hidden camera recording was done in the Phoenix Arizona Temple in June, 2016.

1, 2019 and for at least the first couple of months of 2019, participants of the Mormon temple endowment ceremony would hear a recorded message from their First Presidency (aka the Mormon top brass who claim to be prophets) telling them to not discuss the fact that any changes were made to this ceremony. Here’s a link to an audio recording of that message: https://youtu.be/6vI3q2aG9e0
I will soon be releasing an audio recording of the entire ceremony highlighting what has been added and removed to the script.
