Emperor Maurice - Eastern Roman Empire
On the 14th of August 582, the newly crowned emperor Maurice found himself at the head of a war ridden, almost bankrupt empire. The policy of his predecessor Tiberius had shown good results against persia, but the military spendings and quest for legitimacy did put a serious strain on the finances. Confirming his marriage with Constantina later in the year, Maurice set himself to work.

Maurice (Emperor)
Maurice was Byzantine emperor from 582 to 602. A prominent general, Maurice fought with success against the Sasanian Empire. After he became Emperor, he brought the war with Sasanian Persia to a victorious conclusion. Under him the Empire's eastern border in the South Caucasus was vastly expanded and, for the first time in nearly two centuries, the Romans were no longer obliged to pay the Persians thousands of pounds of gold annually for peace.

Emperor Phocas: An Exaggerated Evil?
Emperor Phocas was the most infamous ruler of Byzantium. Of his reign terrible tales are told: to the writers of the time, he was little better than the Devil – monstrous and savage, tyrannical and despotic. Yet is his reputation deserved? Phocas ruled in interesting times and was an interesting figure himself, but the truth about this poorly understood and even more poorly evaluated emperor is clouded by later propaganda – a fuzzy haze of half-remembered truths and malicious lies.
So, what was Emperor Phocas, a wretched villain or an exaggerated evil?

Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire?
When the Roman Empire split between East and West in the 5th century, both halves continued to think of themselves, and refer to themselves, as Romans. But over time, historians in western Europe began to describe the Eastern Roman Empire as 'the Empire of the Greeks, and later 'the Byzantine Empire'. Why were they reluctant to call them what the Eastern Romans always called themselves - Romans??

History of Byzantine Empire - Every Month
The Byzantine Empire, also referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire or Byzantium, was the continuation of the Roman Empire in its eastern provinces during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, when its capital city was Constantinople. It survived the fragmentation and fall of the Western Roman Empire. The Byzantine Empire lasted from 476-1453. This Roman-Greek civilization defined much of the middle ages and fought nearly a thousand years of constant warfare.IN HOC SIGNO VINCES.

📜 Byzantine Empire: Justinian and Theodora - Part 1- Extra History
Justinian arose from humble roots, the nephew of an illiterate pig farmer named Justin. Justin joined the army and rose to become leader of the palace guard, then took his nephew under his wing and made sure that he was well educated. When Emperor Anastasius died, Justin used his position (and his standing army inside Constantinople) to claim the crown for himself. His nephew guided the early years of his reign, helping Justin secure support both in the capitol and abroad. When Justin died, rule of the Byzantine Empire passed to the young Justinian, who had grand ambitions to restore its waning glory. It also freed him to marry Theodora, a famous actress who was far beneath his social station, and who would also rise from...

The Byzantine Empire was founded during the chaotic third century. It was the time when revolts and civil wars were common, and Roman emperors merely lasted for a year.
Despite being one of the most captivating historical periods of all time, the Byzantine Empire is a lesser known one and it's rare to find a page-turning resource on the topic.

It also freed him to marry Theodora, a famous actress who was far beneath his social station, and who would also rise from her humble beginnings to become a revered empress.

The Roman Empire 🇮🇹
Inspired by @uzbekpatriot_
For much of ancient history, the Roman Empire was the strongest and most advanced civilization in the world (27 BCE until 476 CE aside from Eastern Roman Empire also known as Byzantine empire which continued till 1453 CE). Inspired by @uzbekpatriot_
For much of ancient history, the Roman Empire was the strongest and most advanced civilization in the world (27 BCE until 476 CE aside from Eastern Roman Empire also known as Byzantine empire which continued till 1453 CE). The ancient Roman Empire, at its territorial height, included such regions as:
Center of empire: Italy (capital: Rome)
France
Spain
Portugal
Greece
Turkey
Egypt
Israel/Palestine
Jordan
Tunisia
Algeria
Morocco
Libya
Syria
United Kingdom (parts of it)
The empire achieved many successes in engineering (roads, aqueducts, architecture), law (Roman legal system) military conquest and culture (Roman festivals). — it absolutely would leave its mark on western civilization. It was ultimately divided into Western Roman Empire and Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire), the fall of the west ended antiquity and began Middle Ages.
