Emancipation (foaled 1979) was a championAustralianThoroughbredracehorse. By Bletchingly, Emancipation was a grey, like her dam, Ammo Girl, and her damsire, Gunsynd. She was bred by Mark Hough, in New South Wales, after her dam was purchased from trainer Tommy Smith for just $1,700 due to her unsound conformation and her breeding (her sire was standing at a fee of only $1,500 at the time). Her breeder was only interested in her as a broodmare, and approached her trainer, Neville Begg, to recommend someone who would lease her for racing purposes.
Racing career
Unraced at two, Emancipation raced only at three and four, and won 19 of her 28 starts. These included six Group One wins - all in Sydney. At three, she won 10 of her 13 starts, and, in the autumn, defeated Manikato in the George Ryder Stakes before winning the Doncaster Handicap. At four, she won nine of her 15 starts, including a further five Group One wins. In the spring, her wins included the George Main Stakes, and, in autumn, the Chipping Norton Stakes, the Rosemount Classic, the George Ryder, and the All-Aged Stakes in successive starts. In her last two wins, she defeated the reigning Golden Slipper winner, Sir Dapper (then three). On the occasions that she didn't win, Emancipation was unplaced in eight of her nine starts, including two starts in Melbourne during the spring of 1983, where she tried at (and just beyond) 2,000 metres. In the second of these, she was unplaced behind Strawberry Road in the Cox Plate. At the end of the season, Emancipation was named Australia's champion racehorse in 1984.
The 100-minute premiere "Children of the Gods", which aired on July 27, 1997 at 8 p.m, received Showtime's highest-ever ratings for a series premiere and ranked as the highest-rated original movie to premiere on Showtime in 3-1/2 years at the time. The show got a 10.5 rating in Showtime's approximately 12 million U.S. households, which equaled approximately 1.5 million homes in total. Season one regular cast members included Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge and Don S. Davis.
"Emancipation" is the eighth episode of the fifth season of House and the ninety-fourth episode overall. It aired on November 18, 2008.
Plot
The team takes on the case of a 16-year-old factory manager who fell ill when her lungs suddenly filled with fluid while at work. The teenager informs House and the team that she is an emancipated minor living on her own and supporting herself, and has been doing so ever since her parents died. The team begins treatment for suspected heart problems, but Kutner chooses to sympathize with the patient rather than follow House's directions and gives her steroids instead of beta-blockers. She has a psychotic break. An MRI shows that the patient lied about her parents' deaths. She says that she had emancipated herself because her father raped her and mother pretended it didn't happen. She then starts urinating blood then has a seizure, then brain lesions. Thirteen goes to her parents house for permission to donate a bone marrow transplant, and finds out the girl stole someone's identity. House pressures the patient, and she states she does not want to see her parents because she was babysitting while her baby brother died. The show ends with her parents in the hospital room.
The horse (Equus ferus caballus) is one of two extantsubspecies of Equus ferus. It is an odd-toed ungulatemammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55million years from a small multi-toed creature, Hyracotherium, into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski's horse, a separate subspecies, and the only remaining true wild horse. Horses' anatomy enables them to make use of speed to escape predators and they have a well-developed sense of balance and a strong fight-or-flight response. Related to this need to flee from predators in the wild is an unusual trait: horses are able to sleep both standing up and lying down. Female horses, called mares, carry their young for approximately 11months, and a young horse, called a foal, can stand and run shortly following birth. Most domesticated horses begin training under saddle or in harness between the ages of two and four. They reach full adult development by age five, and have an average lifespan of between 25 and 30years.
Uma(馬, also known as Horse) is a 1941 black-and-white Japanese film directed by Kajiro Yamamoto and starring Hideko Takamine, whom Yamamoto had directed in his film Composition Class (Tsuzurikata Kyōshitsu) three years before. Uma was actually completed by assistant director Akira Kurosawa. It follows the story of Ine Onoda, the eldest daughter of a poor family of farmers, who raises a colt from birth and comes to love the horse dearly. When the horse is grown, the government orders it auctioned and sold to the army. Ine struggles to prevent the sale.
Overview
The film is a tale about a young girl and the colt she raises from its birth. But it is also about the struggle of farmers existing on the edge of poverty. Akira Kurosawa is credited as the film's production coordinator, which is equivalent to first assistant director. But Kurosawa's signature is all over this work and is the last film he was to work on as an assistant before starting his own directing career. The film took three years to plan and a year to film. Kajiro Yamamoto had to commute to the far mountainous location but had to turn his attention to his money making comedies in Tokyo and so he left production in the hands of his assistant, Kurosawa.
