Women's Network: Elizabeth Lowrey, Elkus Manfredi Architects
Over the past 8 months, COVID-19 has forced us all to reflect on where we are, where we are going, and how we are going to get there. We made a quick transition from working in physical office space and collaborating with our colleagues in person, to working virtually, using online platforms as our new conference room and collaboration space.
Our society is now considering the future of Boston's architecture and interiors world, and how best to transition back into the physical workplace. To help us navigate the inner workings of workplace strategy and interior architecture, and plan for our return to the office, we heard from Elizabeth Lowrey, an esteemed leader in workplace strategy and design, and one of Boston Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in Boston Right Now.”

Elkus Manfredi Architects has been consistently ranked as one of the largest and most innovative architecture firms in Massachusetts.
On Face-to-Face with Boston Real Estate Times, Mr. Manfredi talks about the original founding mission of Elkus Manfredi, its deep roots in Boston and some of his favorite projects.
Elkus Manfredi is a full-service design firm providing architecture, master planning, urban design, interior architecture, historic preservation, space planning, programming, and experiential graphic design.
The firm is a member of the US Green Building Council and is a signatory to the AIA 2030 Commitment working toward the goal of carbon-neutral buildings by the year 2030.
Elkus Manfredi is led by Ms. Manfredi, along with principals of the firm: Elizabeth O. Lowrey FIIDA, RDI; John H. Martin FAIA, LEED AP; Andrew P. West AIA; William Halter AIA, LEED AP; and Emily Paparella AIA, LEED AP, CPHC.
Mr. Manfredi reinvents outdated urban precincts into 21st-century mixed-use environments, the edges of universities from barriers into connective seams with adjacent neighborhoods, underutilized urban areas into diverse innovation districts that support the collaborative imperatives of today’s science and technology, and obsolete manufacturing buildings into repurposed hubs of living and working that reinvigorate the urban core.
From The Grove in Los Angeles, to Boston’s revitalized Fenway neighborhood, to New Balance’s health and performance district at Boston Landing, and The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Mr. Manfredi’s projects are inventive, inclusive and sustainable.

Known for her sophisticated design eye, business acumen, and skillful management, Elizabeth is Principal and Director of Interior Architecture at Elkus Manfredi Architects. With a clientele ranging within corporate, hospitality, higher education, and more, her Co-creation approach to design, as well as her expertise in interior architecture and branded workplace environments is both valuable and transcendent.
This discussion, moderated by ally Douglas Hardy, Founder of The Content Guild, LLC, explores not only the trends arising as we continue to work from home, but also how we should be thinking about office design as we head back to the workplace. We discussed the roles that management and leadership play in this transition.
This event is part of our Women’s Network and InfluenceHER series. Our Women’s Network isn’t a club you join, but a place where you belong - you'll find a diverse group of more than 3,000 (and growing) women and male allies at all levels of their careers, from all backgrounds, sectors, industries, and professions, with energy for ensuring that Greater Boston becomes the best place for professional women to thrive. All identities welcomed and encouraged to attend.
