Electronic article surveillance (EAS) is a technological method for preventing shoplifting from retail stores, pilferage of books from libraries or removal of properties from office buildings. Special tags are fixed to merchandise or books. These tags are removed or deactivated by the clerks when the item is properly bought or checked out. At the exits of the store, a detection system sounds an alarm or otherwise alerts the staff when it senses active tags. Some stores also have detection systems at the entrance to the restrooms that sound an alarm if someone tries to take unpaid merchandise with them into the restroom. For high-value goods that are to be manipulated by the patrons, wired alarm clips called spider wrap may be used instead of tags.
Types
There are several major types of electronic article surveillance systems:
Electronic articles are articles in scholarly journals or magazines that can be accessed via electronic transmission. They are a specialized form of electronic document, with a specialized content, purpose, format, metadata, and availability–they consist of individual articles from scholarly journals or magazines (and now sometimes popular magazines), they have the purpose of providing material for academic research and study, they are formatted approximately like printed journal articles, the metadata is entered into specialized databases, such as the Directory of Open Access Journals as well as the databases for the discipline, and they are predominantly available through academic libraries and special libraries, generally at a fixed charge.
Electronic articles can be found in online-only journals (par excellence), but in the 21st century they have also become common as online versions of articles that also appear in printed journals. The practice of publishing of an electronic version of an article before it later appears in print is sometimes called epub ahead of print, particularly in PubMed.

How to remove security tags & how they work
Today, let's see how to remove security tags from clothes or other items in case they accidentally left them on in the shop. Let's also see how do they work. They are called security tags, ink tags, electronic article surveillance (EAS), anti theft tags or inventory control tags and they are used to stop people from shoplifting (stealing stings from shops). They are supposed to be removed by the cashier, but occasionally they forget to do it and then you have to remove them yourself. There are numerous techniques, some of them include brute force and may cause injury or damage the item, but the easiest way is of course using a strong neodymium magnet.
