An electoral district in Canada, also known as a "constituency" or a "riding", is a geographical constituency upon which Canada's representative democracy is based. It is officially known in Canadian French as a circonscription, but frequently called a comté (county).
While electoral districts in Canada are now exclusively single-member districts, multiple-member districts have been used at the federal and provincial levels. Alberta has had a few districts that returned from two to seven members: see Calgary, Edmonton and Medicine Hat. British Columbia had a mix of multiple-member districts in Vancouver and single-member districts elsewhere until the 1991 election, and Prince Edward Island had dual-member districts until the 1996 election.
Voters in John Brumby's seat of Broadmeadows will head back to the polling booth next month for a second round of voting.

Victorian major parties risk losing seats at the November state election
Victoria's major parties are on track for a thumping at the November state election, as new analysis points to the growing influence of minor parties.
The Greens, teal independents, and the newly established Victorians Party are all on track to pick up between nine to 13 seats from the major parties.
According to an analysis in the Herald Sun, three seats in Melbourne’s outer west and north, including Werribee, Melton and Point Cook, are on track to be picked up by the Victorians Party as well as Broadmeadows and Kororoit.
The Greens are predicted to gain the seats of Richmond and Albert Park, while the independent teal candidates, if they decide to run in the November state election, could pick up Hawthorn, Brighton, Caulfield, Kew and Sandringham.

My speech in Parliament on the schools in my electorate of Calwell - 8 February, 2017
I spoke in parliament about the wonderful schools in my electorate of Calwell; the compassionate communities that foster the schools and our determined and courageous students.
I have about 60 schools - both primary and secondary and a fair mix of government and non-government schools - doing a great job in meeting the needs of our students in providing a diversity of choice for students and their families.
They are schools that cater to a culturally and socio-economically diverse community and I am proud of each and every one of them. I am particularly proud of the school communities who are facing significant issues and additional challenges associated with the influx of refugees settling in Calwell.
